Abstract

Adolescents are one of the groups that are vulnerable to health problems. One of the health problems they experience is overnutrition. One of the factors causing overnutrition in adolescents is low knowledge of balanced nutrition and excessive consumption of junk food. Efforts to improve adolescent nutritional knowledge can be done by providing nutritional education using Gemar Bingo Card which is a combination of game cards and bingo games. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of nutritional education with Gemar Bingo Card on knowledge and consumption patterns of junk food in overweight adolescents. The study used a quasi-experimental one group pre-test post-test method on 34 overweight adolescents at SMP Negeri 2 Purwokerto. The study was conducted 5 meetings. The variables were measured using a knowledge questionnaire and FFQ junk food consumption patterns. The variable analysis data was not normally distributed, so it was continued using the Wilcoxon Test. There was an increase in knowledge score from 16 to 20 after being given nutrition education with Gemar Bingo Card with a p value = 0.000. On the other hand, there was a decrease in the median score of junk food consumption patterns from 94.00 to 77.50 after being given nutrition education with Gemar Bingo Card with a p value = 0.004. There was an influence of balanced nutrition education by using Gemar Bingo Cards on knowledge of balanced nutrition and junk food consumption patterns.

Abstract

ICUs treat critically ill patients at high risk of hydration and electrolyte disturbances, which can prolong the length of stay and increase mortality. Data from Dr. H. Soemarno Sosroatmodjo Kuala Kapuas Hospital shows a prevalence of electrolyte disturbances of 43.6%, hydration disturbances of 26.9%, and an ICU mortality rate of 30%. Suboptimal hydration monitoring often causes imbalances to go undetected. This study aims to examine the relationship between hydration and electrolyte status and length of stay in ICU patients to improve the quality of care and patient outcomes. This study used an observational analytical design with a prospective and cross-sectional approach. The population consisted of all ICU patients at Dr. H. Soemarno Sosroatmodjo Kuala Kapuas Hospital, with 19 samples taken by total sampling. Data were obtained from medical records and analyzed using the Pearson Rank correlation test. The results of the analysis showed no significant relationship between hydration status and sodium levels (r = -0.012; p = 0.961) and potassium, with an average sodium level of 140.421 and potassium 3.694 within the normal range. The study concluded that changes in hydration status did not significantly affect sodium and potassium levels in ICU patients. Suggestions for further research are for primary data for calculating input and output fluids.

Abstract

Improving human resource quality depends on good nutrition, especially for pregnant women and young children. Wasting remains a challenge in Indonesia, including at Puskesmas Landasan Ulin, with cases rising from 5.39% in 2023 to 9.23% in February 2024. This condition is influenced by imbalanced nutrient intake, improper feeding practices, and infections such as acute respiratory infections (ARI), pneumonia, and diarrhea. This study aims to analyze the relationship between infant and young child feeding (IYCF) history, infectious diseases, and dietary intake in wasted toddlers at Puskesmas Landasan Ulin. This research is an analytical observational study with a case-control design. It was conducted in the working area of Puskesmas Landasan Ulin in November 2024. The sample consisted of 59 children aged 6–59 months with wasting as the case group and 118 children without wasting as the control group. There is a significant relationship between IYCF history (P-value = 0.032), history of infectious diseases (P-value = 0.017, OR = 95% CI 1.303–8.202), and dietary intake (P-value = 0.000, OR = 95% CI 1.955–9.361) with wasting in children. Enhancing mothers' knowledge of IYCF practices by increasing the number of trained health cadres and promoting IYCF through media campaigns is crucial.

Abstract

Hypertension is a major cause of death among adults in Indonesia. In 2023, the highest cases were reported at Terminal Community Health Center (12,744 cases) and the lowest at Pelambuan (3,648 cases). This study compared sodium and fat consumption patterns and family history among hypertensive patients aged 45–59 years, and identified the dominant factor influencing hypertension. A cross-sectional design was applied with 109 respondents selected through proportional and accidental sampling. Data were collected using a semi-FFQ, family history questionnaire, and blood pressure measurements. Data analysis used Mann-Whitney tests and logistic regression. Results showed significant differences in sodium intake (p=0.025), fat intake (p=0.000), and family history (p=0.017) between the two centers. Multivariate analysis revealed that family history was the dominant factor related to hypertension. In conclusion, family history plays a key role in hypertension risk, supported by unhealthy dietary patterns. Practical implications highlight the need for continuous nutrition education and family-based interventions, especially for those with a family history of hypertension. Longitudinal research is recommended to confirm these findings.

Abstract

Primary school children in Indonesia face nutritional problems that impact their growth. The results of the study at SDN Sungai Kuini 1 showed that the level of knowledge of fish consumption was mostly sufficient (37.5%), and less (62.5%). attitudes towards fish consumption showed a positive attitude (50%), moderately positive attitude and less each (25%). The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of educational game methods with snakes and ladders media on knowledge and attitudes towards fish consumption in elementary school students. This study used a quasi experiment method with a two group pretest posttest design with control group. The population consisted of 91 students, with a sample of 32 students taken using the Stratified Random Sampling method. The sample was divided into intervention group (three-dimensional snakes and ladders game) and control group (two-dimensional snakes and ladders game). Knowledge and attitude data were collected through interviews using questionnaires, and data analysis using the Paired Samples T Test and Independent Samples T Test. Statistical test results showed a difference in knowledge and attitude scores before and after treatment in each group (p < 0.05). The analysis also found significant differences in knowledge and attitude scores after treatment in each group (p < 0.05). However, based on the mean difference, the intervention group showed a more significant improvement in knowledge and attitude. The three-dimensional snakes and ladders game has been proven to have an effect in improving knowledge and attitudes. For future research, it is suggested that researchers can develop or use other educational media in the form of games to achieve more varied and in-depth results
