Abstract

This study examines the impact of leadership styles, organizational culture, and innovation on the performance of private educational institutions in Bogor City. A quantitative research design was employed, collecting data from 150 respondents using structured questionnaires. The analysis involved descriptive statistics, correlation, multiple regression, and moderation analysis. The results indicate that transformational leadership, organizational culture, and innovation significantly contribute to school performance, with innovation being the strongest predictor. Furthermore, the study finds that a strong organizational culture amplifies the positive effects of transformational leadership. These findings highlight the critical roles of leadership, culture, and innovation in enhancing the performance of private schools. Abstract

This qualitative study investigates the instructional practices and learning outcomes of qualitative analysis in Ghanaian senior high schools. Data was collected through classroom observations, teacher and learner interviews. The schools' profiles and infrastructure revealed varying levels of resources, with School X having non-functional laboratory equipment, School Y lacking a functional science laboratory, and School Z boasting six well-equipped science laboratories. Non-participant classroom lesson observations were conducted to garner authentic insights into the teaching and learning of qualitative analysis. A total of 16 lessons were observed, followed by debriefing sessions with teachers to clarify instructional practices. The study aimed to explore the enacted chemistry curriculum in relation to the intended curriculum, shedding light on the challenges and opportunities faced by teachers and learners. The findings provide valuable implications for teacher education, professional development, and chemistry education policy in Ghana. By understanding the complexities of teaching and learning qualitative analysis, educators and policymakers can develop targeted interventions to improve student learning outcomes in science education.

Abstract

This study investigates the relationship between organizational commitment, professional development, and job performance among educators in public universities. Using a sample of 250 educators from public universities in West Java, Indonesia, the study employed a quantitative approach, incorporating Pearson correlation and multiple regression analyses to examine the influence of organizational commitment and professional development on job performance. The findings revealed that both organizational commitment and professional development have significant positive effects on job performance. Furthermore, an interaction effect was observed, suggesting that educators who exhibit high levels of organizational commitment and actively participate in professional development activities perform better than those with only one of these factors. These results emphasize the importance of fostering both commitment and professional growth in improving educator performance. The study contributes to the literature on educator effectiveness and offers practical recommendations for enhancing job performance in higher education institutions.

Abstract

The rise of online gambling presents significant ethical and social challenges, particularly within Christian communities, where such behavior conflicts with core religious values. This study examines the potential of Christian ethics education as a solution to mitigate the impact of online gambling, highlighting principles of stewardship, self-control, and moral integrity as key frameworks for addressing this issue. Through a qualitative descriptive approach based on literature review, this research explores the addictive nature of online gambling, its effects on individuals and families, and the Christian perspective on gambling-related behaviors. Findings suggest that Christian ethics education can play a crucial role in fostering awareness and resilience against gambling addiction, promoting values that align with responsible living, financial prudence, and community harmony. This study underscores the importance of integrating Christian ethical teachings into community and church programs as a preventive strategy, offering believers practical guidance to navigate the moral challenges of the digital age.

Abstract

Environmental sustainability has been a topic of discourse in various fields, including technology. Although the role of technology in environmental sustainability is emphasised, it is underplayed in Technology Education despite having multiple opportunities to promote indigenous knowledge towards environmental sustainability. This descriptive case study explored teaching environmental sustainability through Technology Education at the Mbombela and Mgwenya circuits of the Mpumalanga Province. Content analysis was conducted on Grades 7–9’s Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement (CAPS), lesson plans, Annual Teaching Plans (ATPs), and Technology Education textbooks. The findings revealed that although CAPS Technology indicates environmental sustainability, it is underplayed in attempts to incorporate indigenous technology in teachers’ lesson plans and ATPs; the textbooks are almost silent on environmental sustainability. The study contributes indigenous perspectives on the opportunity Technology Education offers to teach environmental sustainability. The practical nature of the subject can change learners’ attitudes towards the environment through their learning activities.

Abstract

This article, extracted from the first author’s doctoral study, describes faculty's experiences in an open distance e-learning (ODeL) institution implementing rapid changes in the delivery of teaching and learning. The University of South Africa (Unisa) was selected as the case study site. Chaos theory was chosen to frame our thinking about the impact of a slight change in a system. The study targeted the faculty in two colleges. Individual interviews were conducted with 10 faculty members. Atlas.ti was used to analyse the data. The data revealed that migrating to online delivery was necessary, quick and unorganised. It had many implications for the faculty. The article contributes knowledge about an ODeL institution like Unisa adapting to the demands of the 4IR, especially fuelled by COVID-19. Recommendations are made for the institution to address workload issues and implement a change management process that recognises the impact of change on the faculty.

Abstract

This article discusses efforts to reconstruct civic education within the multicultural, democratic, and dynamic context of Indonesia. Using a qualitative approach with a literature study method, this study traces the development of citizenship concepts from a legal-formal dimension toward a paradigm of active, critical, and transformative citizenship. The research analyzes various theories of citizenship, character education, and multiculturalism relevant to the reform needs of civic education in the global era. The findings indicate that civic education in Indonesia needs to be reconstructed from an indoctrination model to a reflective and contextual learning model. This process includes strengthening Pancasila values, fostering critical awareness, developing global citizenship competencies, and managing cultural pluralism inclusively. Thus, civic education can serve as a strategic vehicle in shaping intelligent, democratic, tolerant citizens who care about national and humanitarian life.

Abstract

This research aims to examine the role of listening comprehension in the development of pragmatic competence in students of German as a Foreign Language (DaF). Pragmatic competence, which involves understanding and using language appropriately according to social and cultural contexts, is a crucial aspect of effective communication. This literature review analyzes various theories and concepts related to pragmatics, listening comprehension, and foreign language learning to identify how listening comprehension activities can significantly contribute to the improvement of students' pragmatic competence. The results of the analysis indicate that exposure to authentic contexts through listening materials, coupled with teaching strategies that focus on the interpretation of implicit meaning and social nuances, can enrich learners' pragmatic understanding. The implications of this research highlight the importance of integrating specifically designed listening comprehension materials and activities into the DaF curriculum to facilitate the development of holistic communicative competence.

Abstract

This article examines the urgency of teaching English to young learners (early grade students) in the era of globalization. Early foreign language learning is believed to provide a strong foundation for children's linguistic and cognitive development. The discussion encompasses various relevant teaching methods and strategies, emphasizing the importance of age-appropriate and interest-based approaches, as well as the integration of technology in language learning. The success of early grade English education is greatly influenced by teachers’ ability to create a positive and stimulating learning environment. This is supported by second language acquisition theories such as Krashen’s Affective Filter Hypothesis (Krashen, 1985), which highlights the importance of low-anxiety settings; the Play-Based Learning principle (Pramling Samuelsson & Asplund Carlsson, 2008), which recognizes play as a natural learning medium for children; Gardner’s Multiple Intelligences theory (Gardner, 1983), which encourages a variety of methods to accommodate different learning styles; and the development of Communicative Competence (Hymes, 1972; Canale & Swain, 1980) as the primary goal of language instruction.
