Abstract

This study aims to describe elementary school teachers’ perceptions of the use of STEM-based instructional media as an effort to strengthen 21st-century skills. The research employed a descriptive qualitative approach with the subjects being elementary school teachers in the regions of Tasikmalaya City and Regency. The population included all elementary school teachers in both areas, with a purposive sample of 50 participants. The research instrument was a Likert-scale questionnaire developed based on three indicators of STEM literacy: (1) awareness of the role of STEM in modern society, (2) familiarity with basic STEM concepts, and (3) foundational fluency in STEM application. Data were collected using an online questionnaire via google forms, while the data analysis involved calculating the average score for each indicator. The results showed that for the first indicator, teachers in Tasikmalaya City had higher awareness (average score of 4.05) compared to those in the Regency (3.93). However, in the second and third indicators, teachers from the Regency scored higher, at 3.39 and 3.67 respectively, compared to city teachers who scored 3.30 and 3.59. These findings suggest that although urban teachers have stronger conceptual awareness, rural teachers demonstrate greater mastery in understanding and applying STEM practically in classroom learning. This difference is suspected to be influenced by contextual experience and more frequent implementation of hands-on learning approaches in the Regency.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a profound impact on the education system, forcing schools across Indonesia to rapidly transition to digital learning models. This abrupt shift demanded not only technical mastery of digital tools from students but also psychological readiness to adapt to a new, uncertain learning environment. These challenges raise a critical question: to what extent does students’ digital mindset influence their ability to maintain resilience and sustain learning motivation amidst the pressures and complexities of digital education? This study aims to examine the influence of digital mindset on the resilience and learning motivation of Indonesian secondary school students during the post-pandemic period. A quantitative approach was employed, using a cross-sectional survey design. Data were collected from 110 students through a validated online questionnaire based on a Likert scale, measuring levels of digital mindset, psychological resilience, and learning motivation. The data were analyzed using multiple linear regression to assess the relationships between variables. The results reveal that a digital mindset has a positive and significant effect on both student resilience (β = 0.421; p < 0.01) and learning motivation (β = 0.389; p < 0.01). These findings suggest that students with a higher digital mindset tend to be more adaptive in facing academic challenges and exhibit stronger motivation in digital learning contexts. This study underscores the importance of not only equipping students with digital infrastructure and skills but also fostering their mental capacity to endure and thrive amid ongoing educational transformation. Therefore, strengthening a digital mindset emerges as a key element in cultivating a generation of learners who are resilient, intrinsically motivated, and well-prepared to navigate the future landscape of education.

Abstract

The low level of reading literacy among elementary school students remains a tangible challenge in the field of education, particularly when learning has yet to fully engage with cultural contexts familiar to students' everyday lives. This study aims to explore the effectiveness of educational games based on local wisdom as a learning medium capable of meaningfully improving reading literacy skills. Employing a mixed methods approach, this research combines quantitative analysis through pre-tests and post-tests on two groups (experimental and control), as well as qualitative analysis through participatory observation and semi-structured interviews. Quantitative findings indicate a significant improvement in reading literacy among the experimental group following the game-based learning intervention. Meanwhile, qualitative data reveal that students tend to be more emotionally and cognitively engaged when learning with media that incorporate local cultural elements, such as wayang stories or traditional markets. Not only does the educational game foster reading interest, but it also strengthens the connection between learning content and students’ cultural realities. This study contributes to the effort of presenting a more contextual, relevant, and motivating learning approach, particularly in the development of literacy media grounded in both technology and culture. The findings also open up opportunities for the development of more inclusive and locally-based education policies in the digital era.

Abstract

The use of artificial intelligence (AI) technology in education continues to develop rapidly, yet not all regions can equally benefit from it, especially the 3T areas (frontier, outermost, and disadvantaged) in Indonesia. This research is motivated by concerns over this disparity and aims to understand how AI-based learning systems can be contextually adopted in schools facing infrastructure and resource limitations. Using a mixed methods approach, the study combines quantitative data from questionnaires distributed to 150 respondents (mostly teachers) and qualitative data from in-depth interviews with key informants who have direct field experience. Findings show that despite the willingness to adopt new technologies, obstacles such as unstable internet connectivity, lack of teacher training, and limited institutional support remain major challenges. Based on these findings, a flexible implementation model of an AI-Driven Tutoring System was developed, featuring a semi-offline format and supported by practical training materials tailored to local needs. This study not only contributes to the theoretical understanding of technology adoption in education but also offers practical implications for formulating more inclusive and adaptive policies. By integrating technical and social insights, this research promotes the development of educational technology that is more equitable, relevant, and responsive to local contexts.

Abstract

Children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) often experience social stigma from their surroundings due to behaviors perceived as deviant. This stigma not only affects the children but also extends to their parents as the primary caregivers. This study aims to explore the coping strategies used by parents of children with ADHD in dealing with social stigma. This research employs a qualitative method with a descriptive narrative approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. The study involved five informants, consisting of four parents of children with ADHD and one therapist for children with special needs. This study is guided by Lazarus and Folkman’s (1984) coping theory, which distinguishes between problem-focused coping and emotion-focused coping, as well as Link and Phelan’s (2001) social stigma theory, which explains how stigma operates through labeling, stereotyping, separation, status loss, and discrimination, sustained by power. The findings reveal that parents use a combination of both coping strategies to address the social stigma associated with having a child with ADHD. Problem-focused coping includes educating the surrounding community, communicating with schools, therapy and seeking information, social, or emotional support. Emotion-focused coping involves self-acceptance, spirituality, emotional regulation, distancing from stigmatizing environments. These coping strategies represent the parents’ adaptive responses to the social pressures caused by stigma. The study highlights the active role of parents in navigating societal judgments while supporting their child’s development and well-being. These findings contribute to a deeper understanding of how parents adapt to societal judgments and provide practical insight for support systems addressing families of children with ADHD.

Abstract

In the post-truth era, where emotional narratives often overshadow facts, digital natives encounter increasing challenges in identifying credible information. This study examines the critical digital literacy of Indonesian university students, focusing on their habits and perceptions in verifying information from online sources. Using a qualitative descriptive method, data were collected from eight students through semi-structured interviews, observational notes, and open-ended questionnaires, and then analyzed thematically. The findings reveal that 75 percent of participants admitted to having believed hoaxes at least once, while only 3 out of 8 consistently verify content before sharing. Platforms such as TikTok and Instagram were the most frequently used sources of information. Trust was often based on virality, familiarity, or emotional appeal rather than the credibility of the source. Some respondents viewed truth as what is widely accepted or repeated within their social circles. Notably, those who had personal experiences with misinformation developed a stronger awareness of the need for fact-checking. This study highlights a paradox between students’ digital skills and their critical literacy. It suggests that epistemic authority is shifting from academic or institutional sources to influencers and peer networks. The research calls for higher education curricula to incorporate critical digital literacy that combines technical ability, ethical reasoning, and emotional awareness. Such integration is vital for preparing students to navigate a complex and often misleading information landscape.

Abstract

This study examines the digital phenomenon of the hashtag #KaburAjaDulu ("just escape first") as a symbolic expression of Indonesian youth responding to structural pressures and social crises. Behind its seemingly humorous tone, this hashtag encapsulates deeper narratives of dissatisfaction with economic stagnation, distrust in state institutions, and widespread psychological exhaustion. The research employs a qualitative approach with a phenomenological design to explore the lived meanings embedded in these digital expressions. Data were collected through digital ethnographic observation and purposive sampling of 150 social media posts using the hashtag, sourced from Twitter, TikTok, and Instagram between 2023 and 2025. The data were analyzed thematically, supported by visualizations of digital narrative distribution. Findings suggest that the hashtag serves as a symbolic escape from perceived structural stagnation, while also acting as a subtle medium of protest. Dominant themes include individual economic hardship, loss of trust in public institutions, and aspirations to seek a better life abroad. Users often express their frustrations using humor, irony, and memes, demonstrating that digital culture provides not only an outlet for emotional release but also a channel for soft resistance. This study contributes to the growing literature on affective digital activism by showing how symbolic, emotionally charged expressions can reflect more profound social discontent. It also urges policymakers to recognize these online narratives as meaningful signals of youth sentiment. Future research should explore cross-platform expressions and the algorithmic dynamics behind the spread of such digital discourse in an increasingly mediated society.

Abstract

The cultural, linguistic, and ethnic diversity that characterizes Indonesia’s border regions presents both challenges and opportunities in the context of multicultural education. Schools in frontier, outermost, and underdeveloped (3T) areas serve as complex social interaction spaces where teachers and students from diverse cultural backgrounds engage in the teaching and learning process. This study aims to explore in depth the dynamics of interaction between teachers and students in multicultural classrooms in border areas and how local contexts shape the pedagogical strategies employed by teachers. Using a qualitative approach with an intrinsic case study design, data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation in primary and secondary schools in North Kalimantan, East Nusa Tenggara, and Papua. The results of the study show that teachers’ cultural sensitivity strongly influences successful classroom interaction, their ability to adapt to linguistic diversity, and contextual communication strategies that incorporate local wisdom. Teachers who can build inclusive pedagogical relationships create learning spaces that not only support student participation but also strengthen their cultural identity. This study contributes to the development of locally grounded multicultural pedagogical approaches and provides practical implications for teacher training and educational policy in 3T areas. The conclusion of this study emphasizes the importance of contextual sensitivity and a humanistic approach in fostering equitable and inclusive educational interactions amid diversity.

Abstract

The development of Private Higher Education Institutions (Private HE) in Indonesia is very massive, with more than 2500 Private HE institutions operating in the form of Universities, Colleges, Academies, polytechnics, and Institutes in Indonesia. This challenge highlights the importance of effective management in maintaining the continuity of operations run by Private HE. Salary is a crucial element that must be arranged systematically and fairly to maintain long-term employee retention for sustainable Private HE. This study aims to determine the factors that influence the preparation of performance-based salaries in Private HE. Using qualitative methods, this study will conduct a systematic literature review (SLR) from previous literature from national and international research, such as journals and books, to group important factors considered to influence the preparation of salaries in Private HE. This study provides benefits to researchers, academics, and Private HE managers in maintaining employee retention through the preparation of performance-based salaries. This study is a preliminary finding that can be studied further to produce broader research to develop performance-based salaries in Indonesian private HE.
