Abstract

Elderly age is the final stage of life, where in this elderly phase many changes are experienced by the elderly both physically and mentally. Changes in physical and mental health are a major concern and require a holistic approach to ensure optimal well-being because the health of the elderly is very important to receive attention. Several factors can influence the health of the elderly, such as an inactive lifestyle and lack of attention to physical health, which can cause various health problems. Therefore, there is a need for targeted and sustainable interventions to improve the health of the elderly, one of which is the implementation of special exercises for the elderly. Based on research results, exercise for the elderly has been proven to improve body health and prevent various diseases that arise in the elderly if done regularly. The aim of this Community Service Activity (PKM) is to improve the body health of the elderly. The method used is to check your blood pressure and pulse before exercising and check again after exercising. From the results of the examination, it was found that the majority had normal blood pressure after exercising and a normal pulse after exercising. It is recommended that the elderly continue to carry out exercise regularly to maintain their health, especially physically. Apart from that, they are also advised to pay attention to or implement a healthy daily lifestyle and maintain their physical condition so that they remain in good health.

Abstract

Stroke is a clinically defined acute and focal neurological deficit syndrome caused by vascular injury (infarction, hemorrhage) in the central nervous system. The main reason for stroke occurrence is this delay is public awareness of stroke, its symptoms, risk factors, or appropriate behavior (for example, the immediate occurrence of an emergency). Various risk factors can cause stroke, and one of them is age which cannot be changed. Hypertension is the most important modifiable risk factor for stroke, although its contribution differs for different subtypes. There are many risk factors that can cause stroke, namely factors that cannot be modified such as age, gender, genetics, and can be modified such as hypertension, diabetes mellitus, smoking, alcohol consumption and substance therapy and diabetes. Physical dysfunction is one of the dominant aspects of post-stroke disability, often associated with stroke-specific disorders such as motor impairment, fatigue, spasticity, and balance problems. Implementation of community service activities is carried out through notifications via the community health center information platform with a total of 20 community members residing in the Sei Suka Community Health Center Working Area. The results of this community service activity show that the majority of participants (more than 80%) in the community do not know the factors that cause strokes in the Sei Suka Health Center Work Area.

Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease caused by the bacteria Mycobacterium tuberculosis. TB infection usually attacks the lungs, but can also affect other body organs such as the kidneys, brain or bones. TB bacteria spread through the air when an infected person coughs or sneezes, and other people can become infected by inhaling the bacteria. Preventing the transmission of tuberculosis (TB) is an important effort to control the spread of the disease, therefore early diagnosis and treatment of TB is very necessary to prevent further transmission and avoid serious complications. The aim of implementing this outreach is to increase the knowledge of TB sufferers regarding how TB is transmitted so that sufferers can be aware of the environment. The method in community service was carried out with a pretest before counseling and a posttest after counseling. Community service was carried out at the Pagar Merbau Community Health Center, Deli Serdang Regency with a total of 32 participants. From the results of activities before counseling was carried out on preventing TB transmission, only 55% of participants had good knowledge and after the counseling was carried out the majority had good knowledge, reaching 95%. It can be concluded that it is important to know how TB disease is transmitted, so that patients or families can anticipate their health, especially regarding TB disease because TB disease can easily be transmitted to other people.

Abstract

Acute respiratory infection (ARIs) are a global Health problems that affects society at large. ARi is the fourth leading cause of death in the population of all ages. According to North Sumatra Central Statistics Agency, ARI cases are the 4th highest disease in 2021. One causes of the high incidence of ARI is due to a lack of knowledge about ARI. This is caused by ignorance of ARI socialization, how to prevent ARI, and how to deal with ARI. The spread of ISPA can be prevented with a better understanding of risk factors, prevention and management. Community service is the key in efforts to spread knowledge about ISPA. This research explores the role of community service in increasing awareness of ISPA and encouraging preventive behavior among the community. Through outreach activities and public campaigns, community service has succeeded in increasing understanding of the importance of hand hygiene, vaccination, healthy respiratory practices and clean living habits in dealing with ISPA. Evaluation of the effectiveness of the community service program shows significant increase at the level of awareness, knowledge and preventive action against ISPA in the Pagar Jati Community Health Center. Collaboration between health workers, local government, educational institutions and the community are the main fondations for success this program. Abstract

Hypertension, which is usually known as high blood pressure, is a disorder in the blood vessels, which inhibits the supply of both oxygen and nutrients to the body. Hypertension is a dark killer or commonly called Silent killer, called a dark killer because this disease can kill victims who suffer from it without being accompanied by symptoms first. Some alternative traditional medicine therapies to reduce hypertension are soursop leaves (Annona Muricata Linn), because they contain potassium ions, because high potassium levels can increase sodium excretion, which can consequently reduce voulume and blood pressure. Hypertension is also common in menopausal women, because it is related to the depletion of ovarian follicles and also physical and psychological changes in menopausal women. This community service aims to educate elderly class mothers to use soursop leaves for non-pharmacological treatment to reduce blood pressure when given a decoction of soursop leaves to mothers, this service uses an accidental sampling prepost design approach, namely a treatment design using an experimental group only without a comparison or control group. Based on the results of the study seen from 30 respondents who were given soursop leaf decoction education for 1 week, 30 respondents understood or 100%, this shows that respondents understand about blood pressure in menopausal women after being given a decoction of soursop leaves.

Abstract

Enzymes are an important ingredient in industry and health.  There are several types of enzymes that are widely used by humans such as cellulase enzymes, lipase enzymes, amylase enzymes and protease enzymes. Protease enzymes are enzymes that can accelerate the breaking of protein peptide chains. This enzyme is one of the most widely used enzymes in the industry with sales value reaching 60% of world enzyme sales. Very many industrial products use enzymes with enzyme demand that continues to increase. Total sales of enzymes in the industry in 2010 reached 3.3 billion US dollars and will continue to increase in the coming years.Protease enzymes can be isolated from plants, animals and microorganisms. The use of microorganisms in producing protease enzymes is very potential due to the very fast growth of microorganisms and can be grown on fairly cheap media. The purpose of this socialization is to provide information related to the examination of bacterial molecules producing protease enzymes in tempeh. From the activities carried out, it can be concluded that the presence of bacteria in tempeh sample S-2 which has the largest diameter is identical to the bacterium Pseudomonas stutzeri, while from the results of the participants' understanding, the results of the pre-test dominant understanding are sufficient (60%) and the results of the post-test results are dominantly good understanding (67%) which means that seminar participants are able to understand the material presented.

Abstract

Marriage is carried out for each couple who is ready to get married both morally and materially and has a commitment to live together and is mature in terms of age so that later the couple is ready to undergo and be able to overcome all the problems that may occur after marriage, however, there are many cases that occur in society regarding early marriage, where the couple is still under age. One form of effort to prevent early marriage is by providing counseling containing information about the negative impacts of early marriage, especially for women. This information can be conveyed to parties who can take part in reducing the rate of early marriage, such as PKK mothers who have an active role in the village. Therefore, the author conducted outreach about the impact of early marriage to PKK mothers in Pasar VI Kualanamu Village, Beringin District, with the aim being that PKK mothers in the village have knowledge about the impact of early marriage, so that they can contribute to reducing the rate of early marriage. . The method applied in implementing this counseling is the lecture method. This community service is carried out in two stages, namely the counseling stage and the assessment stage. The results of the counseling carried out showed an increase in the percentage achieved in the knowledge of PKK mothers regarding the impact of early marriage after receiving the counseling, so it can be seen that this activity is considered to be able to increase the knowledge of PKK mothers in the village. By increasing knowledge about early marriage, the counseling participants who are PKK mothers who are active in the community every day and deal directly with local residents, are expected to be able to contribute to reducing the rate of early marriage, especially in Pasar VI Kualananamu Village.

Abstract

Hypertension is a type of non-communicable disease and is a health problem that often occurs in society and even around the world. The prevalence of hypertension can increase due to a lack of knowledge about the appropriate diet for hypertension sufferers. A low-salt diet is an appropriate diet for hypertension sufferers to regulate the amount of sodium intake in the body. This service activity aims to increase knowledge about low-salt diets. Method of implementing low salt diet outreach by the community service team using leaflet media. The leaflet was distributed to all activity participants. The number of participants in this PkM activity was 35 people. The implementation carried out by the PkM team consisted of lecturers and students from the Nutrition Study Program, Nursing Study Program, and Midwifery Study Program and collaborated with Karang Anyar Community Health Center partners. Based on the results of the activity, of the 35 participants who attended the service activity, the characteristics of the frequency of participants' blood pressure checks were obtained, the majority of participants had a history of grade II hypertension, 15 people (43.0%). Then there were 12 people in the level II hypertension category (34.2%), followed by the pre-hypertension category with 8 people (22.8%). Based on the results of socialization activities after carrying out before and after evaluations of increasing knowledge for 35 participants, that number was 23 (65.8%). This PkM activity concludes that a lack of knowledge about a low-salt diet is the cause of the high number of hypertension sufferers and a lack of knowledge about the types of food that are recommended and not recommended for hypertension sufferers. So educational programs are needed to increase public understanding about low-salt diets.

Abstract

One of the frequently encountered health issues, particularly among pregnant women, is hypertension. Hypertension during pregnancy poses a serious risk to the health of both the pregnant woman and the fetus. This issue requires special attention, especially in providing information to the public about alternative approaches to managing blood pressure. To address this problem, an educational campaign on the benefits of cape gooseberry for hypertensive pregnant women was conducted. Cape gooseberry, scientifically known as Physalis angulata, holds the potential in helping to reduce blood pressure in hypertensive individuals. Compounds found within the cape gooseberry, such as flavonoids and polyphenols, possess anti-hypertensive properties that could benefit health. Several studies indicate that cape gooseberry can lower blood pressure. The Community Engagement Activity (PKM) was held in Lau Rakit Village, STM. Hilir Sub-district, Deli Serdang Regency, on November 29th, 2023, involving 15 participants. The primary aim of this PKM is to enhance public knowledge, particularly among hypertensive pregnant women, regarding the benefits of cape gooseberry in reducing blood pressure and the appropriate methods of consumption. Additionally, this activity aims to raise awareness about the significance of nutrition in maintaining health during pregnancy. The educational campaign succeeded in increasing public knowledge about the benefits of cape gooseberry in reducing blood pressure. Positive responses were evident through active participation among the community in seeking further information regarding cape gooseberry and its consumption. It is anticipated that this educational campaign will serve as a foundation in the endeavor to manage community health, particularly concerning hypertension during pregnancy.
