Abstract

Al-Ghazâli has influenced Islamic thought and defined its practice for nearly nine centuries. Like many legal experts and philosophers, al-Ghazâli divides the universe into the transient world and the eternal hereafter. This world, or temporary existence, is subject to the will of God. It is not governed by scientific laws, but is maintained, governed, and driven by God's direct and continual intervention (rejection of causality). God is not only the creator of the universe and its attributes and laws (or the cause of existence). He is also the cause of every event in the world, great and small, past, present, and future. As a Sufi, al-Ghazâli does have a theory of ethic as a part of his theosophic discipline. Some experts consider al-Ghazâli as a Sufi figure; others also classify him as a prominent figure of philosophy. This is understandable actually, because from the books he wrote all indicate his interest on both tasawuf as well as philosophy. By considering his books Maqâsid al-Falâsifah or Tahâfut al-Falâsifah, or through his Mi’yâr al’Ilm, one would consider him as a true philosopher. But one might also come to conclude him as a real Sufi or a true mystic simply by looking at his masterpiece works such as Ihyâ al-Ulûm al-Dîn, Kitab al-Arbâ’in, and al-Munqidh min al-Dalâl.

Abstract

Normatively, zakat management in Indonesia is governed by Law Number 23 of 2011 concerning Zakat Management, which designates the National Zakat Agency (BAZNAS) as the official state institution responsible for managing zakat at national, provincial, and regency/city levels. However, in practice, there remain regulatory disharmonies and overlapping authorities between the central BAZNAS and regional bodies, including BAZNAS of Karanganyar Regency. This study aims to analyze the harmonization of national zakat management regulations and critically examine the authority of BAZNAS Karanganyar Regency within the framework of Indonesian zakat laws. A normative-juridical research method was employed, utilizing both statutory and conceptual approaches. The findings indicate that although the authority of BAZNAS Karanganyar Regency is clearly defined legally, implementation reveals ongoing challenges regarding coordination, the division of authority, and policy synchronization between central and regional levels. Therefore, strengthening regulatory harmonization and coordination mechanisms is essential to achieve effective, accountable, and equitable zakat management

Abstract

This study analyzes Islamic political communication in Iran, focusing on its characteristics as an Islamic Republic, the role of the 1979 Islamic Revolution, the concept of wilayat al-faqih, and the function of symbols of resistance. Using a qualitative approach based on library research and content analysis, this study finds that Islamic political communication in Iran is built through the integration of Islamic values, state institutions, clerics, media, and society. The 1979 Islamic Revolution serves as the historical foundation for the formation of political identity, religious communication networks, and an Islamic value-based political communication culture. The concept of wilayat al-faqih functions as a source of religious-political legitimacy as well as a center of ideological communication connecting the state and society. Symbols of resistance originating from the Karbala narrative, the struggle of Imam Husain, the concept of martyrdom, and the defense of the oppressed play a role in building collective identity, shaping public opinion, and strengthening the political legitimacy of the state. The findings show that Islamic political communication in Iran combines religion, media, ideology, and power to maintain the political stability and sustainability of the Islamic Republic of Iran. This study enriches the development of Islamic political communication theory, particularly in understanding the relationship between Islamic values, political legitimacy, and identity construction in the context of a modern state

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the methodological functions of asbāb al-wurūd in connecting hadith texts with their historical and social contexts and in determining the boundaries of meaning in the contextualization of hadith. This study employed library research using a textual-contextual analytical approach. The data were drawn from hadith literature, asbāb al-wurūd works, hadith commentaries, and other relevant scholarly sources. Data were analyzed by identifying reports concerning the circumstances of hadith emergence, examining their historical and social contexts, comparing textual meanings with contextual dimensions, and determining the scope of the hadith’s messages. The findings indicate that asbāb al-wurūd performs three main methodological functions: clarificative, delimitative, and contextual-transformative. The clarificative function elucidates the intended meaning of a hadith by considering the circumstances surrounding its emergence. The delimitative function distinguishes between general and specific messages and helps determine the boundaries of their application. Meanwhile, the contextual-transformative function enables the normative values or purposes of hadith to be considered within different social contexts without detaching them from the textual basis. These findings indicate that hadith contextualization requires verification of relevant reports and a clear distinction between historical causes, social contexts, ‘illah, and normative purposes to avoid both rigid textualism and speculative interpretation
