Abstract

The repeated use of istifhām in the opening three verses of Surah al-Qāri‘ah is often understood as literal questioning, although the structure performs rhetorical functions related to the portrayal of the Day of Judgment. Previous studies have generally examined istifhām in the Qur’an broadly or discussed the interpretive methodology of al-Kasysyāf, while the relationship between glorification and the dimension of warning in Surah al-Qāri‘ah verses 1–3 remains insufficiently explored. This study analyzes al-Zamakhsyari’s interpretation of istifhām in these verses and explains the dimension of tahdīd that emerges when his interpretation is examined within the textual context. The study employs a qualitative library research approach. Primary data were obtained from Tafsir al-Kasysyāf, while secondary data consisted of relevant books and scholarly articles. The data were collected through documentation and examined using descriptive-analytical content analysis. The findings demonstrate that al-Zamakhsyari interprets the interrogative structure as li al-ta‘ẓīm wa al-tafkhīm, emphasizing the magnitude and terrifying nature of the Day of Judgment. Contextual analysis further reveals a dimension of tahdīd manifested through epistemic, eschatological-cosmic, and socio-theological warnings. These findings broaden the understanding of Qur’anic interrogative rhetoric and clarify the relationship between rhetorical structure and eschatological warning

Abstract

University students’ psychological well-being is challenged by academic pressure, social demands, and uncertainty about the future. In this context, reading the Qur’an is not merely a devotional activity but can serve as a means of reflection and emotional regulation. This study aims to analyze the concept of psychological well-being in interpretations of Surah Ar-Ra‘d verse 28 and examine students’ experiences of attaining tranquility through the intensity of Qur’an reading. It employed a qualitative approach within the Living Qur’an framework. Data were collected through observation, documentation, and in-depth interviews with five purposively selected students from the Islamic Study Brotherhood Forum in the Qur’anic Studies and Exegesis Program at Universitas Islam Negeri Sumatera Utara. Data were analyzed through reduction, display, and conclusion drawing, while credibility was assessed through source and method triangulation. The findings show that students read the Qur’an as a spiritual routine, a response to distress, an environmentally encouraged practice, and a means of self-reflection. Regular engagement was perceived to foster inner tranquility, reduce anxiety, strengthen optimism, and support the management of academic pressure. These findings demonstrate the lived actualization of tranquility in Surah Ar-Ra‘d verse 28 and highlight Qur’an-reading habits as a potential resource for students’ psychological well-being.

Abstract

The crisis of family harmony in the contemporary era is characterized by weakened communication, a decline in children’s respect for their parents, and a shift in moral values due to social change. Various studies have discussed birr al-walidayn, but few have examined the concept of children’s moral conduct toward their parents from the perspective of M. Quraish Shihab and its relevance to family harmony. This study aims to analyze the concept of children’s moral conduct toward their parents in Surah Al-Isra’, verse 23-24, according to M. Quraish Shihab’s perspective, and to explain its relevance to the crisis of family harmony. The study employs a qualitative method using a literature review approach. Primary sources consist of the works of M. Quraish Shihab, particularly Tafsir Al-Mishbah, while secondary sources include relevant books and scholarly articles. The results indicate that moral conduct toward parents encompasses tauhid as a moral foundation, iḥsān, respect, empathy, and responsibility. These values are relevant in fostering respectful communication and strengthening family harmony in the contemporary era

Abstract

21st-century education faces a character crisis among Generation Z and Alpha due to information overload, shifting values, and social fragmentation. Yet the national education goal is to develop faithful, moral, creative, and responsible individuals. Therefore, integrating Islamic values into learning is essential. This research analyzes the planning and implementation of Al-Qur'an Hadith learning at MAS Miftahul Ulum Punggur Besar in internalizing Islamic values. It employs a qualitative method with a field research approach, collecting data through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis uses the Miles, Huberman, and Saldana model. The novelty lies in learning not merely as classroom knowledge transfer, but through religious habituation in the school environment. Findings show that learning proceeds systematically through goal-oriented planning, varied materials and methods, and authentic assessment. Implementation occurs through transformation, transaction, and trans-internalization of values, applying role modeling, religious routines, advice, discussion, and madrasa-family collaboration. This research is expected to serve as an Islamic value-based education model that prioritizes religious habituation over a purely classroom approach

Abstract

This research aims to elucidate the concept of spiritual humanism within Mulla Sadra's transcendental philosophy from an axiological perspective and to integrate it with the strengthening of religious moderation in Indonesia. The methodology of research employed is qualitative library research utilizing a descriptive-analytic approach. Primary data sources include Mulla Sadra's seminal works, such as Al-Hikmah al-Muta’aliyah fi Asfar al-Aqliyyah al-Arba’ah, as well as related literature by Haidar Bagir, Muhammad Nur Jabir, and Alwi Shihab. Secondary data were procured from relevant scholarly articles and publications. The findings indicate that Mulla Sadra's spiritual humanism emphasizes substantive motion (al-harakah al-jauhariyah) and the four intellectual journeys (al-asfar al-arba‘ah), thereby merging the vertical dimension (the relationship with God) and the horizontal dimension (social role). The integration of this concept with the religious moderation framework of the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs, which is based on justice, tolerance, national commitment, and rejection of violence, is capable of cultivating citizens who are both spiritually and socially mature. In conclusion, Sadra's philosophy provides a robust metaphysical, epistemological, and axiological foundation for the transcendental yet practical implementation of religious moderation in Indonesia

Abstract

Religious moderation in Islamic education has become an important issue amid the rise of intolerance, digital radicalism, and socio-religious polarization in Indonesia. Islamic education is not only aimed at shaping individual piety, but also at fostering tolerance, inclusiveness, and respect for diversity. This study aims to analyze the concept of religious moderation in the perspectives of M. Quraish Shihab and Azyumardi Azra and examine its relevance to contemporary Islamic education. This study employs a library research method with a qualitative-comparative approach. The data were analyzed through hermeneutic and content analysis approaches based on the works of both scholars and other relevant literature. The findings reveal that Quraish Shihab views religious moderation through the concept of wasathiyyah, which emphasizes spiritual, moral, and intellectual balance. Meanwhile, Azyumardi Azra emphasizes the socio-historical dimension, multiculturalism, and national values in religious moderation. Although they have different approaches, both scholars consider Islamic education as a strategic instrument for developing religious, tolerant, and anti-extremist character. This study finds that the synthesis of both scholars’ thoughts can formulate an integrative paradigm of moderate Islamic education through the strengthening of spirituality, tolerance, digital literacy, and national commitment. This paradigm is relevant in addressing the challenges of digital radicalism and socio-religious crises in the modern era

Abstract

The concept of masyi'atillah (God's will) serves as a central point in Islamic theological debates between human free will (ikhtiyar) and determinism (jabr). This study examines a comparative analysis of al-Zamakhsharī's interpretation in Tafsir al-Kāshshāf and al-Rāzī's in Mafātīh al-Ghayb regarding masyi'atillah, particularly in relation to divine freedom and human determinism. Al-Zamakhsharī, representing the Mu'tazilite view, emphasizes that humans have full freedom over their actions and asserts that masyi'atillah does not negate moral responsibility. In contrast, al-Rāzī, with his Ash'arite approach, affirms that all human actions remain within the framework of God's will, although he allows room for limited human agency. This qualitative research employs textual study and comparative analysis of verses concerning qadar, ikhtiyar, and masyi'at. The findings reveal a fundamental difference: al-Zamakhsharī stresses human freedom and responsibility, while al-Rāzī emphasizes the dominance of God's will without entirely closing the door to constrained human will. These findings confirm that the concept of masyi'atillah in Qur'anic exegesis is not monolithic but contains interpretive variants influenced by each exegete's theological school, thereby enriching our understanding of theological dynamics regarding destiny and human freedom

Abstract

Learning interest is a crucial aspect in early childhood development that needs to be supported through appropriate learning strategies and the stimulation of independence from an early age. This study aims to examine the effect of Islamic learning media and children's independence on early childhood learning interest at PIAUD Al-Quran Ananda. The research employed a quantitative approach with an associative survey method. The population consisted of all parents of students enrolled at PIAUD Al-Quran Ananda in the 2024/2025 academic year, totaling 54 individuals, all of whom were selected as samples using total sampling technique. Data were collected through a Likert-scale questionnaire measuring parents' perceptions of the three research variables. Data analysis used multiple linear regression with SPSS 21.0. The results showed that Islamic learning media and children's independence simultaneously had a significant effect on early childhood learning interest (F=44.468; sig. 0.000) with a contribution of 63.6%. Partially, children's independence (t=5.001; sig. 0.000) and Islamic learning media (t=2.735; sig. 0.009) each had a positive and significant effect on learning interest. These findings confirm that the integrated strengthening of children's independence and the utilization of Islamic learning media is an effective strategy in fostering children's learning interest from an early age.

Abstract

Qitāl is a Qur’anic term that refers specifically to physical armed combat, every Qur’anic verse concerning qitāl is always accompanied by strict conditions and limitations. This study examines the concept of qitāl through a comparative analysis of two major works of Qur’anic exegesis: Tafsīr Al-Qur’an Al-‘Aẓīm by Ibn Kaṣīr and Tafsīr Fī Ẓilāl Al-Qur’an by Sayyid Quṭb. This research employs a qualitative library-based method with a comparative (muqāran) approach, supported by maqāṣid al-syarī’ah analysis following Ibn ‘Āsyūr’s framework. Three verses were analyzed: QS. Al-Baqarah [2]:190, QS. An-Nisā’ [4]:75, and QS. Al-Anfāl [8]:61. Ibn Kaṣīr interprets these verses through the bi al-Ma’ṣūr and Sayyid Quṭb interprets these verses bi al-Ra’yi, approach responding to the realities of war and oppression in the modern era. The findings show that both exegetes agree that war may only be waged in the way of Allah, that killing civilians is prohibited, that defending the oppressed is obligatory, and that offers of peace must be accepted. Affirming that the Qur’an does not sanction unlimited violence and that war in Islam is a last resort, tightly bounded, and directed solely toward upholding justice
