Abstract

Scabies is a contagious skin disease caused by a parasitic infestation of the tiny mite Sarcoptes scabiei var hominis in many tropical countries including Indonesia. It is estimated 300 million cases of scabies each year in the world. It can have a significant impact on general health, causing illness and death not only as a direct result of its infestation but also as a result of secondary bacterial infection. To analyze the associated factors of scabies in Boarding School Al Anshor, Ambon in 2022. This study used an observational analytic research method with cross-sectional design. Based on the results of the doctor's diagnosis, 68 students (31.78%) suffered from scabies. Female students dominate scabies sufferers. In addition, it was also found that scabies mostly occurred in students with the age of 15 years. Scabies is dominated by students with a high school education level as many as 41 students. It was found that the factors of gender (p=0,755), age (p=0,089), and education level of students (p=0,074) had no statistical effect on the prevalence of scabies in the Al Anshor boarding school in Ambon. It can be concluded that there is no relationship between gender, age, and education level and scabies.

Abstract

The first year of college is the most challenging period for students because of new situations, such as lecture systems, learning materials, and environments that are distinct from high school, so adaptability is necessary when someone enters college. Self-regulated learning is an activity where the student can freely determine and manage the learning process needed by the student and is related to three aspects of academic activities, namely metacognition, motivation, and behaviour. The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between motivation and self-regulated learning in students of the Faculty of Medicine, Pattimura University. This study is a quantitative analytical research with a cross-sectional design using a total sampling technique with a total of 672 students of the Faculty of Medicine, Pattimura University, from the class of 2018-2021 in September-October 2022. The results of the study showed that from the 672 respondents, the percentages of the respondents who had high motivation and who had high self-regulated learning were 81.4% and 61%, respectively. Data analysis using the Fisher exact test showed the significance of the value of p ≤ 0,001. Thus, there is a significant relationship between motivation and self-regulated learning in students of the Faculty of Medicine Pattimura University

Abstract

Dapsone syndrome is a syndrome that occurs after dapsone therapy within a period of 48 hours to 6 months after dapsone use and does not depend on the drug dose. The clinical manifestations can resemble other drug allergies and have a fatal risk if not treated properly. The classic triad of dapsone syndrome consists of fever, internal organ involvement and skin eruption/exfoliative dermatitis. The diagnosis of dapsone hypersensitivity syndrome is made if a hypersensitivity reaction occurs after dapsone therapy for 2-8 weeks followed by two of the following symptoms: fever, skin eruption, lymphadenopathy, and impaired liver function. Treatment of dapsone hypersensitivity syndrome is to immediately stop the dapsone drug and administer adequate corticosteroids. We report the case of a 19-year-old male diagnosed with multibacillary leprosy and receiving multidrug therapy-multibacillary (MDT-MB) therapy for the second month. Six weeks after starting therapy, fever, bumps and sores appeared almost all over the body accompanied by yellow eyes. On physical examination, hyperpigmented macules, nodules, ulcers, anemic conjunctiva and icteric sclera were found. Laboratory examination revealed anemia, leukocytosis, and increased liver enzymes. Based on clinical findings and supporting examinations, a diagnosis of dapsone hypersensitivity syndrome was made. After starting dapsone and administering desoxymethasone 5 mg per 24 hours intravenously, then tapered, clinical and laboratory findings showed improvement.

Abstract

Dysmenorrhea is menstrual pain that is prone to occur in teenagers, one of which is caused by anemia. Anemia is when the body has low hemoglobin levels, namely <12 g/dl. The function of hemoglobin is to bind oxygen and distribute it throughout the body. If the hemoglobin level is low, myometrial ischemia can occur, and the circulating oxygen level is also low, which can cause myometrial hypoxia, which results in menstrual pain. This study aimed to determine the relationship between anemia and the degree of dysmenorrhea in first-year students at the Faculty of Medicine, Pattimura University, for the academic year 2022-2023. This research is an analytical study with a cross-sectional approach conducted in June 2023, with a sample of 126 female students taken using the simple random sampling method. Measurement of anemia is carried out through examination of hemoglobin levels using the Easy Touch GCHb hemoglobin test tool, and measurement of dysmenorrhea is carried out using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) questionnaire. The research results using the Chi-Square statistical test showed no significant relationship between anemia and the degree of dysmenorrhea, with a value of p = 0.885. This research concludes that there is no relationship between anemia and the degree of dysmenorrhea in first-year students at the Faculty of Medicine, Pattimura University, Academic Year 2022-2023.
