Abstract

Elderly farmers faced high health risks, particularly from Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), with hypertension being a significant issue. The elderly were vulnerable to hypertension due to physiological changes affecting their well-being. Hypertension in the elderly increases the risk of falls, which could cause physical injuries and psychological impacts. This study aimed to analyze the characteristics of elderly farmers and describe the fall risk among hypertensive elderly farmers in Blimbing Village, Klabang Subdistrict, Bondowoso Regency. This research used a descriptive quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach. The study population included 90 elderly farmers in Dusun Alas Lanjang, with a sample of 60 hypertensive elderly farmers meeting the inclusion criteria. Data were collected using the Morse Fall Scale questionnaire to assess fall risk and demographic characteristics. The study results indicate that most respondents were 60-74 years old (68.3%), with the majority being female (56.7%). Most respondents had no formal education (61.7%). The most prevalent type of hypertension among respondents was Stage 1 hypertension, with 30 (50%) respondents, and Stage 2 hypertension, with another 30 (50%) respondents. Results from the Morse Fall Scale showed 58 (96.7%) respondents at high risk of falls and 2 (3.3%) respondents at low risk. These findings indicated a high risk of falls among hypertensive elderly farmers in Blimbing Village, necessitating appropriate interventions to prevent falls and related health complications.

Abstract

The quality of healthcare services in eye clinics is significantly influenced by effective human resource development (HRD), particularly in enhancing the competencies of medical personnel and administrative staff. However, challenges in implementing sustainable HRD strategies remain a common issue. This study aims to analyze HRD strategies in eye clinics and their impact on service quality. This research employs a qualitative descriptive design with a narrative approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with medical staff and clinic management, direct observations, and an analysis of HR-related policy documents. Participants in this study were drawn from Ayu Siwi Eye Clinic, located in Nganjuk, East Java. The sample included medical staff, administrative personnel, and managerial staff, all of whom had been employed at the clinic for at least one year. Thematic analysis was used to identify patterns in the strategies implemented. The findings indicate that effective HRD strategies include regular training, performance-based incentives, and employee involvement in decision-making processes. Clinics that adopt these approaches experience increased job satisfaction, operational efficiency, and improved patient care quality. However, challenges such as budget constraints and resistance to change among senior employees persist. In conclusion, the success of eye clinics in enhancing service quality relies on structured and sustainable HRD strategies. Innovative policies in HR management are essential to improving job satisfaction and service effectiveness.

Abstract

The risk of disease is related to congenital genetic factors, one of which is hypertension. Hypertension is a condition in which blood pressure increases from normal limits caused by unhealthy lifestyles such as excessive salt consumption, obesity, smoking, consumption of alcoholic beverages, and others. How to reduce high blood pressure is done by administering drugs and non-pharmacological therapy, one of which is progressive muscle relaxation therapy. The method used in this final project report is a literature review by reviewing 1 international article and 6 national articles. The collection process uses the PRISMA method (Prefer Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis), and data analysis uses Thematic Analysis to test articles using compare, contrast, and criticism. Progressive muscle relaxation therapy significantly reduces blood pressure. Blood pressure decreases due to relaxation after administration of progressive muscle relaxation therapy. The authors state that progressive muscle therapy can be used as educational material and can be implemented as a nursing intervention in lowering blood pressure in groups or families with a history of hypertension.

Abstract

Background: Post-operative ileus or POI is one of the most common problems found and disruptive after laparotomy or laparoscopy, both electively and emergency. Potential complications that can arise from POI with a prolonged period include increased post-operative pain, increased nausea and vomiting, complications in the lungs, worsening of the surgical wound healing process, inadequate oral intake, delayed post-operative mobilization, a long hospitalization period, and increased healthcare costs. Therefore, a non-pharmacological approach is needed to minimize the incidence of POI, including chewing gum therapy. Purpose: To determine the effectiveness of chewing gum therapy in preventing Post-Operative Ileus (POI) in post-laparotomy patients. Method: A case study involving two patients: intervention patients and comparison patients. Chewing gum therapy is given as much as two pieces with a chewing time of 10-15 minutes in a total of 3 times/day, and observations are carried out every 6 hours. Results: The average pain scale was lower in intervention patients, nausea occurred in comparison patients, the average bowel sounds were higher in intervention patients, and the time to the first fart after surgery was shorter in intervention patients compared to comparison patients. Conclusion: Chewing gum therapy can reduce symptoms of POI complications and accelerate the reactivation of gastrointestinal motility after surgery.

Abstract

Adolescent problems related to reproductive health are generally caused by a lack of knowledge about sexual and reproductive health, which negatively impacts their reproductive health condition. Currently, many adolescents face issues such as contracting Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs), HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus), AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome), as well as unplanned pregnancies. Therefore, education tailored to the characteristics of adolescents is essential, one of which can be done through flash cards as a medium for health education. This study aims to determine how using flash card media affects adolescent behavior in maintaining reproductive health. The study uses a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental method and a non-equivalent control group design. The sampling technique used cluster sampling, with 40 respondents consisting of 20 individuals in the intervention group and 20 in the control group, all from SMPN 1 Rambipuji. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate analysis. Statistical analysis using the Wilcoxon Test showed a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test scores in both the intervention and control groups, with a p-value of 0.000 (< 0.05). In addition, the Mann-Whitney Test also showed a p-value of 0.000 (< 0.05), indicating a significant effect of flash card usage on changes in reproductive health behavior among adolescents. These findings suggest that routine use of flash cards, for example, once a week for a month, is efficacious in improving adolescent behavior in maintaining their reproductive health.

Abstract

Background: Pneumonia is a lower respiratory tract infection that can be fatal in children, caused by bacteria, viruses, or fungi. Symptoms include fever, cough, and dyspnea. One non-pharmacological therapy to address ineffective breathing patterns is Pursed Lips Breathing (PLB), which can improve alveolar expansion in each lung lobe, normalize respiratory rates, and promote relaxation in children with pneumonia. Objective: This study aimed to determine the effect of PLB on respiratory frequency in childrens with pneumonia at Cempaka High Care Unit, Dr. Moewardi Regional Hospital, Surakarta. Methods: A descriptive case study approach was used, involving two respondents diagnosed with pneumonia. Respiratory rate (RR) was measured before and after PLB intervention, administered twice daily (morning and evening) for three days. Results: Post-intervention, Respondent R’s RR decreased from 44 to 32 breaths/minute, while Respondent S’s RR improved from 32 to 20 breaths/minute. Conclusion: PLB therapy demonstrated changes in respiratory frequency for both respondents. Respondent R’s rate remained indicative of tachypnea, whereas Respondent S achieved a normal range, marked by improved breathing patterns.
