Abstract

Mathematics is often perceived as difficult by students due to its association with formulas and abstract concepts, leading to low motivation and learning outcomes. This condition was observed in class XI A3 of SMA Negeri 3 Palu, where most students had not yet achieved the Minimum Mastery Criteria (KKM) in statistics. This study aims to improve mathematics learning outcomes through the implementation of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model combined with the Team Games Tournament (TGT) method. The research employed Classroom Action Research (CAR) involving 36 students of class XI A3, with data collected through tests, observation, and documentation. The findings revealed an improvement in average learning outcomes from 68.1% in the pre-cycle to 76.5% in cycle I, and 92.5% in cycle II. Learning mastery also increased from 33.3% in the pre-cycle to 69.4% in cycle I, and reached 88.8% in cycle II. Therefore, the implementation of PBL integrated with TGT proved effective in enhancing conceptual understanding, learner independence, and mathematics achievement.

Abstract

On-time graduation (OTG) is a primary key performance indicator (KPI) for higher education institutions. Delays in graduation adversely affect institutional academic efficiency and increase student costs. This study aims to implement the Support Vector Machine (SVM) algorithm, a machine learning technique, to develop a predictive model for students' on-time graduation. This study employed a quantitative approach using a historical dataset of 20 students as a case study. Five predictor variables were utilized: Semester 4 GPA, total completed credits, attendance percentage, working status, and organizational activity. The dataset was partitioned into 80% for training and 20% for testing. Model performance was evaluated using a Confusion Matrix, along with Accuracy, Precision, Recall, and F1-Score metrics. The evaluation on the test set demonstrated that the SVM model achieved an overall Accuracy of 75%. Specifically for the 'On-Time' class, the model yielded a Precision of 66.7%, a Recall of 100%, and an F1-Score of 80%. These findings suggest that SVM is a viable method and holds potential as an early detection tool to identify students at risk of delayed graduation, thereby enabling timely intervention.

Abstract

This study aimed to improve students’ mathematical literacy skills (MLS) through the implementation of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model in the topic of probability at Phase E. The subjects were Grade X.1 students of SMAN 7 Pekanbaru in the 2024/2025 academic year. This Classroom Action Research (CAR) was carried out in two cycles, namely Cycle I and Cycle II, each consisting of two meetings with the stages of planning, action, observation, and reflection. The research instruments comprised (1) learning materials, including the Learning Objectives Flow (ATP) and teaching modules, and (2) data collection instruments, including an MLS test and observation sheets for teacher and student activities. The findings revealed that the implementation of the PBL model successfully improved both the learning process and students’ MLS. The analysis of the MLS test results showed a significant improvement: the number of students in the “very good” category increased from 1 in the pre-test to 8 in Cycle I and 18 in Cycle II, while those in the “very poor” category decreased from 22 to 12 in Cycle I and only 2 in Cycle II. Therefore, the PBL model proved effective in improving the learning process and enhancing the mathematical literacy skills of SMAN 7 Pekanbaru students in the 2024/2025 academic year on the topic of probability.

Abstract

Direct and inverse proportionality are important concepts in junior high school mathematics, yet seventh-grade students often experience misconceptions regarding these topics. This study aims to identify the types of misconceptions, their underlying causes, and effective instructional strategies to address them. The method used is a literature review of 22 articles from credible sources, including Sinta-indexed journals, Scopus, International journals, and Google Scholar. The analysis results indicate that student misconceptions mostly stem from underdeveloped conceptual understanding, limited mathematical reasoning skills, and low metacognitive abilities. The difficulties include errors in distinguishing between direct and inverse proportionality, challenges in applying mathematical principles, inability to represent concepts visually and symbolically, and difficulties in evaluating and reflecting on problem-solving steps. Other contributing factors include monotonous exercise routines, insufficiently supportive online learning, and students’ sensitivity to the context of word problems. Recommended instructional strategies include targeted remedial programs, the use of interactive media such as GeoGebra, the development of POE-based Learning Activity Sheets LKPD, Discovery Learning approaches, and exercises that promote critical reasoning. These findings are expected to serve as a reference for teachers and policymakers in designing more effective mathematics instruction.
