Abstract

Mathematical literacy is a crucial competency in 21st-century education however, international assessments such as PISA indicate that Indonesian students still have low levels of mathematical literacy. This study aims to develop mathematics teaching materials assisted by Autograph software to enhance the mathematical literacy skills of Phase F students in the topic of geometric transformations.. This research employs the ADDIE development model, which consists of five stages: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The research subjects were students of Class XI-4 at SMA Negeri 4 Tanah Putih. The instruments used included validation sheets, mathematical literacy tests (pretest and posttest), student response questionnaires, and observations. The results of the study show that the developed teaching materials are highly valid, with an average validation score of 89.10%, practical based on student responses with a score of 79.73% categorized as “practical,” and effective based on an N-gain score increase of 0.43 and a statistically significant t-test result. Therefore, the Autograph-assisted teaching materials are considered valid, practical, and reasonably effective in improving students' mathematical literacy skills in geometric transformations.

Abstract

Students' poor mathematical literacy, particularly when it comes to the content of Two-Variable Linear Equation Systems (SPLDV), which calls for the ability to comprehend information, model it mathematically, and clearly communicate the solution's findings, is what spurred this study. This project intends to improve the learning process and increase students' mathematical literacy skills by using the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) approach. Using the Classroom Action study (CAR) methodology created by Kemmis and McTaggart, the research was carried out in two cycles. Thirty students from SMP Negeri 4 Tambang's class during the even semester of the 2024–2025 school year served as the study subjects. Mathematical literacy competency tests and teacher and student activity observations were used to gather research data in the form of descriptions. The results of the study indicate that the application of CTL is able to improve the implementation of learning, marked by increased student activeness in asking questions, discussing, and expressing opinions, as well as a more consistent role of teachers as facilitators. In terms of learning outcomes, students' mathematical literacy skills improved from cycle I to cycle II, both in writing problem information, using appropriate concepts and procedures, and in drawing conclusions from solutions. Thus, it can be said that using CTL effectively raises the quality of mathematics instruction while also helping students become more mathematically literate while using the SPLDV content.

Abstract

The low level of students’ higher-order thinking skills (HOTS) in solving abstract mathematics problems highlights the need for active and collaborative learning. The Student Teams Achievement Division (STAD) cooperative learning model combined with Hands On Mathematics emphasizes direct student engagement. This study aimed to improve HOTS on exponents and logarithms in grade X at SMAN 4 Kota Jambi using STAD with Hands-On Mathematics. A true experimental design with a Pretest-Posttest Control Group involved three groups: experimental class I (STAD with Hands-On Mathematics), experimental class II (STAD), and a control class (Direct Instruction). Descriptive analysis showed an increase in average HOTS scores: 77.86 become 82.00 (class I), 73.67 become 75.33 (class II), and 68.11 become 71.56 (control). Normality and homogeneity tests confirmed assumptions were met. ANOVA indicated significant differences among groups (F = 10.233, p < 0.001). Post hoc Tukey tests revealed significant differences between class I and II (p = 0.016) and class I and control (p < 0.001), while class II and control showed no significant difference (p = 0.327). The study demonstrates that STAD with Hands-On Mathematics is effective in enhancing students’ HOTS in mathematics.
