Abstract

The preservation of local wisdom values is a crucial effort in maintaining cultural identity and social harmony within communities. This study examines the origins and forms of local wisdom preservation in the cultures of the Sundanese, Balinese, Lombok, and Dayak Kalimantan societies through a comparative approach. The local wisdom explored in this research emerges from historical experiences, interactions with the natural environment, and distinctive belief systems in each region. Traditions such as seren taun in Sundanese culture, Hindu religious ceremonies in Bali, Sasak practices in Lombok, and Dayak rituals reflect artistic expression and spiritual values that are still maintained today. The findings indicate that preservation efforts are supported by community roles, traditional leaders, and adaptation to social change. It is recommended that an integrative approach be adopted to sustain local wisdom values effectively.

Abstract

This study analyzes the implementation of Good Financial Governance (GFG) in public sector financial management in Timor Leste, focusing on transparency, accountability, and public participation. Using a qualitative-descriptive approach and case study method, data were collected through document analysis and literature review from international institutions such as the IMF, World Bank, and PEFA. The findings reveal partial progress, notably through the adoption of the Integrated Financial Management Information System (IFMIS), which has improved transparency. However, challenges remain in enforcing audit recommendations, institutionalizing citizen participation, and aligning national policies with local implementation. Comparative case studies from Cambodia, Jamaica, and Scotland highlight the importance of institutional reform, leadership, and legal enforcement. The study recommends enhancing fiscal literacy, strengthening oversight capacity, and establishing participatory budgeting mechanisms. Overall, the research underscores that effective GFG is essential for sustainable development, requiring both technical innovations and structural reforms to ensure inclusive, transparent, and accountable financial governance.

Abstract

This study explores the transformation of Timor Leste’s financial system from a cash-based economy toward inclusive digital finance. Using a qualitative approach and secondary data analysis, the research examines the structural barriers of a cash-dominated system, the progress of digital initiatives, and the strategic steps required for sustainable transformation. Findings reveal that while over 70% of transactions are still cash-based, financial access points have increased by 200% between 2019 and 2020. Initiatives such as mobile wallets and branchless banking have shown promise but are hindered by poor infrastructure, weak regulatory frameworks, and low digital and financial literacy. The study identifies strong potential in the country’s young demographic and high mobile phone penetration. A phased five-year strategy is recommended, emphasizing infrastructure development, regulatory reform, and public trust-building. This research contributes to the discourse on financial inclusion in emerging economies and offers practical insights for policymakers, financial institutions, and development partners in Timor Leste.

Abstract

This study investigates the impact of digital transformation on firm value among publicly listed companies on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX), with a comparative focus on the banking and consumer goods sectors. Using secondary data from 2018 to 2022, the study employs multiple linear regression for the banking sector and panel data regression with the Fixed Effect Model for the consumer goods sector. The results reveal that digital transformation has a significant positive effect on financial performance (ROA) in the banking sector, while its impact on market value (PBV) in the consumer goods sector is not statistically significant. Firm size acts as a moderating variable that enhances the relationship between digital transformation and firm value, particularly in the banking sector. These findings underscore the importance of digital maturity, organizational readiness, and strategic alignment in leveraging technology for value creation. The study contributes to the literature by highlighting sectoral differences in the effectiveness of digital transformation.

Abstract

This study analyzes the fiscal dependence of Timor-Leste on the oil and gas sector and the associated challenges in achieving economic diversification. Using a quantitative descriptive approach and time-series secondary data from 2010 to 2023, the findings reveal that oil and gas revenues constitute 85–90% of the state’s total income. This high dependency has led to a vulnerable fiscal structure and limited progress in diversifying the economic base. Regression results show that fiscal dependence negatively affects economic diversification, while infrastructure, GDP per capita, and human development have significant positive impacts. Timor-Leste also ranks lowest among comparable countries in export diversification and structural balance. The study recommends a strategic shift toward investment in non-oil sectors such as agriculture, tourism, and light manufacturing, supported by institutional reform and human capital development. These efforts are essential to reduce fiscal risks and build a more resilient and inclusive economy.

Abstract

The prediction of financial distress in the banking sector has become increasingly critical amid rising digital risks, managerial failures, and regulatory pressures, particularly during the 2020–2024 period. This study aims to analyze the methods used for predicting financial distress in the banking sector through a systematic literature review. Using a qualitative approach and a descriptive-analytical literature study method, this research examines scholarly articles from reputable sources. The analysis reveals that while traditional models such as the Altman Z-Score and CAMELS are still in use, AI/ML-based models such as Random Forest and Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) are gaining prominence due to their higher accuracy. However, the adoption of predictive technologies remains limited in developing countries due to data and resource constraints. This study underscores the importance of developing predictive frameworks that are responsive to digital disruption and integrate ESG factors, while also addressing the research gap concerning the application of Generative AI in banking. The findings are expected to offer valuable insights for regulators and practitioners in anticipating financial crises more proactively.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the influence of operational efficiency, credit risk, and market risk on the profitability of state-owned banks listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange during a post-crisis period. Using a quantitative approach and multiple linear regression analysis, the research investigates the relationship between BOPO, NPL, and NIM as independent variables, and ROA as the dependent variable. The findings indicate that all three variables have a significant impact on profitability, both partially and simultaneously. Interestingly, both BOPO and NPL exhibit a positive relationship with ROA, suggesting possible institutional factors or strategic management decisions unique to state-owned banks. Meanwhile, NIM shows a consistent positive effect, reinforcing its role in profit generation. The model satisfies all classical assumptions and demonstrates strong explanatory power. These results offer valuable insights for policymakers and banking practitioners in improving financial performance and managing key financial indicators in the state banking sector.

Abstract

This study investigates sociolect variation in the speech of rural and urban communities, focusing on Cisata District and Pandeglang City, Banten Province. Using a qualitative-descriptive approach with the ethnography of communication method, the research explores how language use is shaped by education, age, occupation, and location. Data were collected through observations and interviews with selected informants in both areas. Analysis based on Labov’s and Fishman’s theories reveals clear distinctions: rural speakers use Sundanese dialects and informal Indonesian, reflecting traditional lifestyles, while urban speakers prefer standard or semi-formal Indonesian with frequent code-mixing, especially among youth and the educated. The findings show that sociolect variation is influenced not only by geography but also by educational access and social interaction. This research highlights the role of urbanization in shaping language use while underlining the need to preserve local linguistic identities amid social change.

Abstract

This study explores the phenomenon of slang usage among Generation Z (Gen Z) in online communication interactions through the X application. In the context of technological advancements and the rise of social media, language has undergone significant changes in both form and function. The aim of this research is to describe the forms of slang used by Gen Z, to understand its function in digital communication, and to analyze its impact on the preservation of standard Indonesian. This study employs a qualitative descriptive method, with data collected through non-participant observation of Gen Z user posts on the X application. The results indicate that the slang used includes abbreviations, shortened forms, and code-mixing. This type of language is used not only for communication but also as a form of identity expression, lifestyle, and resistance against formal language norms. The study reflects the crucial role of social media in shaping language dynamics and underscores the importance of linguistic awareness in preserving standard Indonesian amidst the forces of globalization.
