Abstract

The increasing number of elderly people in Indonesia poses a serious challenge to the health and social sectors. Palliative care, which aims to improve the quality of life of the elderly, plays an important role in providing holistic care for patients facing chronic or terminal illnesses. This study aims to examine the relationship between palliative care and the quality of life of the elderly through a literature review. A literature search was conducted using two databases, Google Scholar and PubMed, with the keywords “Palliative Care,” “Quality of Life,” and “Elderly,” and selecting articles published between 2015 and 2022. A total of six articles met the inclusion and exclusion criteria, which were then systematically analyzed. The results of the analysis showed that palliative care contributes significantly to improving the quality of life of the elderly, especially through physical, psychological, social, and spiritual support. This care is proven to be effective both in direct intervention, homecare, and education to the elderly family. However, the limitation of relevant studies is a challenge in examining this topic in more depth. This research is a literature review conducted with a systematic approach. This study uses PICOST analysis to identify relevant literature. The analyzed literature was obtained from Google Scholar and PubMed databases, using the main keywords “Palliative Care,” “Quality of Life,” and “Elderly.” Inclusion criteria included articles published between 2015 and 2022, available in full text, and relevant to the topic. A total of 6 articles that met the inclusion criteria were used in this analysis. The results of the literature review show that palliative care can consistently improve the quality of life of the elderly. Aging, which causes a decrease in body function and endurance, makes the elderly more vulnerable to physical and psychological illnesses, so palliative care is very important to maintain their quality of life. According to WHO, quality of life includes physical, psychological, social, spiritual and environmental aspects. Of the 314 articles identified, 38 were duplicates and were excluded. After assessing the quality and appropriateness of the articles to the topic, 6 journals were obtained that met the criteria for systematic analysis. This selection flow is shown in the PRISMA flow chart. Palliative care can significantly improve the quality of life of the elderly, both in terms of physical, psychological, social, and spiritual aspects.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of the Self-Directed Learning (SDL) model on the learning engagement and outcomes of fourth-grade students in the Indonesian language subject at SDN 1 Mangkung. This study employed a quasi-experimental method with a pretest-posttest control group design. The population consisted of 396 students from SDN 1 Mangkung (N=202) and SDN 2 Mangkung (N=194). A sample of 40 students was selected using cluster random sampling. Data on learning engagement were collected through questionnaires, while learning outcomes were measured using a multiple-choice test. The data were analyzed using an independent samples t-test with SPSS version 22. The results revealed two key findings. First, the learning engagement of students taught with the SDL model was significantly higher than that of students taught with the conventional model. The mean score for the experimental group increased from a pre-test score of 42.65 to a post-test score of 50.05. The t-test analysis yielded a t-value of 5.241, which is greater than the t-table value of 2.024, with a significance of p < 0.05 (Sig. 2-tailed = 0.000). Thus, the null hypothesis (H₀) was rejected, and the alternative hypothesis (H₁) was accepted. Second, student learning outcomes also showed a significant improvement in the SDL group, with the mean score increasing from 37.65 to 59.00. The t-test resulted in a t-value of 9.087, exceeding the t-table value of 2.024 (p < 0.05). This indicates that H₀ was rejected and Hₐ was accepted. In conclusion, the SDL model has a significant positive effect on both student engagement and learning outcomes.

Abstract

Stress is a psychological response commonly experienced by individuals when facing internal or external pressures. Measuring stress levels among nurses is essential to understand their mental condition and ensure task performance is maintained. This descriptive quantitative study aimed to assess the stress levels of nurses at Hospital X in Tangerang over the past month using the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10). The study involved a total population of 20 nurses, with data collected through a 10-item Likert-scale questionnaire. Descriptive analysis was used to determine the frequency and percentage of stress levels. Results showed that 55% (11 respondents) experienced low stress, while 45% (9 respondents) had moderate stress, with an average score of 14, a minimum of 7, and a maximum of 25. These findings highlight the need for effective stress management strategies by hospital management to prevent worsening stress and to enhance nurse productivity.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of foundation policies on teacher performance and teacher wellbeing at the Purwokerto Alam Community Learning Center (PKBM). The background of this study is based on the importance of the role of institutional policies in creating a work climate that supports the quality of performance and welfare of educators, especially in non-formal educational institutions. This study uses an associative quantitative approach with a population study technique because the number of respondents is limited, namely 20 people consisting of teachers, education personnel, and foundation administrators. Data were collected through a closed questionnaire based on a Likert scale containing indicators of foundation policies, teacher performance, and teacher wellbeing. The instruments were tested for validity and reliability before being subjected to simple linear regression analysis. The results of the validity test showed that all instrument items had a significant correlation with the total score (r count > r table), while the reliability of the instrument reached a Cronbach's Alpha value of 0.805, indicating that the instrument had high internal consistency. Regression analysis showed that the foundation's policy had a significant effect on teacher performance (R² = 0.426; p = 0.002) and teacher wellbeing (R² = 0.503; p = 0.000). The positive regression coefficient value indicated that the better the perception of the foundation's policy, the higher the teacher's performance and wellbeing. These findings indicate that transparent, fair, and supportive foundation policies can create a positive working environment for teachers. Therefore, strengthening institutional policies is a strategic step in managing human resources in non-formal educational institutions such as PKBM.

Abstract

The documentary film Suster Apung tells the story of the struggle of a nurse serving in a remote area of Indonesia. This film highlights the dedication and sacrifice of medical personnel who face numerous challenges in delivering healthcare services to underserved communities. To effectively convey its message to the audience, a documentary must be supported by a well-constructed screenplay. A strong screenplay serves as a stimulus capable of eliciting immediate emotional responses from viewers. The quality of a documentary's screenplay can significantly enhance public empathy toward the individuals and communities portrayed. This study aims to examine the influence of the Suster Apung documentary’s screenplay on public empathy, using a sample of 130 randomly selected respondents. The research employs a quantitative approach with a descriptive-verificative method, analyzed using multiple linear regression. The findings indicate that cinematography, sound design, and the selection of interview subjects contribute 30.2% to the development of empathy, while the remaining 69.8% is influenced by other variables not examined in this study. The results suggest that the quality of a documentary's screenplay is shaped by effective cinematography, appropriate sound design, and relevant sources. The better the screenplay quality, the higher the potential for fostering audience empathy

Abstract

This systematic literature review examines ethnic groups as socio-cultural constructions and their role in social order. Through an analysis of 25 key publications (2000–2023), the study reveals that ethnic groups are not static biological entities but dynamic outcomes of negotiations between individual agency and social structures via identity practices, policies, and power relations. Ethnicity plays an ambivalent role: as a cohesive force based on Gemeinschaft (Francis, 1947) and as a trigger for stratification when politicized (Brass et al., 2000). The theoretical implications emphasize the need to update ethnicity frameworks based on local contexts and integrate cognitive psychology (Gil-White, 2001), while practical implications advocate for integrating ethnic perspectives into inclusive health policies (Aldridge et al., 2023) and multicultural political systems (Shapiro & Kymlicka, 2020). A key limitation is the dominance of Western literature. Future research should explore ethnicity in the digital society era and comparative studies of ethnic construction in Asia versus the West.

Abstract

This study examines the cultural dynamics and social organization of five Indonesian ethnic groups Gorontalo, Makassar, Papua, Flores, and Timor—in response to modernization pressures. Using a qualitative comparative design with ethnographic approaches and literature review (2015–2025), distinct adaptation patterns are revealed. Gorontalo society contends with local language erosion and dualism of traditional authority but integrates Islamic values into rituals like Burdah. Makassar recontextualizes Siri’ Na Pacce for multiethnic urban interactions and institutionalizes Appassili through education. Papua experiences social fragmentation due to disparities in special autonomy policies and cultural commodification, with churches mediating conflicts. Flores harmonizes Catholicism with Caci rituals and Go'et Idep oral traditions, yet navigates sacred-meaning reduction from tourism. Meanwhile, Timor sustains identity via the Tetum language in diasporas but grapples with geopolitical fragmentation post-1999. Commonalities lie in kinship-based social structures as cultural anchors, while differences emerge in adaptation strategies: institutionalization (Gorontalo-Makassar), hybridization (Papua-Flores), and cross-border identity (Timor). The research enriches cultural complexity theory (Hannerz) and recommends gradient protection policies for cultural preservation.
