Abstract

This study aims to examine the phenomenon of al-dakhil, or the infiltration of foreign elements into the interpretation of the Qur’an, which can cause distortion of meaning. The main issue addressed is how al-dakhil emerges in exegesis and the factors that trigger the introduction of external elements such as weak data, isra’iliyyat, and the personal biases of the exegete, thereby risking deviation from the original meaning of the revelation. The approach used is a qualitative method with descriptive analysis, examining tafsir texts and ushul al-tafsir literature in depth to identify forms of al-dakhil related to linguistic rules, as well as analysing their causal factors. The research findings indicate that al-dakhil often arises due to insufficient mastery of the Arabic language, group fanaticism, and the influence of ideology and invalid scientific data. An important conclusion is that this study underscores the necessity of linguistic literacy, critical evaluation of sources, and the strict application of linguistic rules in the tafsir process to preserve the authenticity and validity of the Qur’an’s meaning. The main implication is the importance of strengthening responsible and scientific exegesis methodologies to prevent the introduction of foreign elements that distort the meaning of revelation.

Abstract

This article explores the foundational principles of Islamic educational management through the Qur’anic interpretations of Tafsir Al-Misbah by M. Quraish Shihab. Responding to the contemporary challenges of globalization and the urgency to ground education in Qur’anic values, the study employs a library research method with a descriptive-qualitative approach. The analysis focuses on three key principles: justice (Q.S. Ar-Rahman: 7–9), sincerity (Q.S. Al-Bayyinah: 5), and trustworthiness (Q.S. An-Nisa’: 58). The findings indicate that justice ensures equity and inclusivity in managing educational resources and policies; sincerity provides a moral and spiritual foundation that enhances dedication and integrity; while trustworthiness underscores accountability in leadership and the fulfillment of responsibilities. The study not only enriches theoretical discourse by offering a tafsir-based framework for Islamic educational management but also provides practical implications for shaping institutional vision, mission, and governance in alignment with Islamic values.

Abstract

This article examines the use of the istifhām phrase Mā Khaṭbu in the Qur'an. This phrase consists of the word “mā,” which means “what,” and “khaṭb,” which refers to a major event or important matter. The method used is a qualitative approach with thematic analysis of the verses containing the phrase Mā Khaṭbu. The results of the study indicate that the phrase Mā Khaṭbu serves more than just a question to obtain an answer. This phrase is used as a rhetorical tool aimed at arousing the moral and spiritual awareness of readers, as well as encouraging deep reflection and introspection. Additionally, this phrase also functions as social criticism and satire toward certain attitudes or conditions that require attention. Academically, this research contributes to the study of balaghah, tafsir, and Qur’anic linguistics. This research also enriches understanding of the use of rhetorical questions as a spiritual educational method that can shape the inner consciousness of Muslims.

Abstract

Contextual tafsir education serves a strategic role in strengthening Civic Education as an ideological safeguard in the face of globalization and rising radicalism. By connecting the Qur’anic text with social realities, contextual tafsir internalizes national values such as tolerance, social justice, and deliberation, which are aligned with the principles of Civic Education. This study investigates how Qur’anic learning in pesantrens and schools can function as a medium for both Living Qur’an and Living Civic Education, where sacred values are not only textually interpreted but also lived in daily practice. Employing a qualitative approach with literature review and conceptual analysis, the research identifies the integration of Qur’anic values such as tasamuh (tolerance), ‘adl (justice), and syura (deliberation) with the ideals of Pancasila-based Civic Education. The findings indicate that contextual tafsir, when supported by integrative curricula, teacher training, and community participation, effectively nurtures a generation that is religiously grounded, nationally committed, and ethically responsible. The conclusion emphasizes that Islamic religious education should not only cultivate individual piety but also reinforce national identity and serve as a counterforce to exclusivist ideologies. This approach offers a transformative model for character education in Indonesia’s pluralistic context.

Abstract

The hijab occupies a central place in traditional Arab clothing, carrying historical, religious, and social dimensions. Within Islam, it is closely linked to the principles of modesty and the construction of Muslim women’s identity, though its practice and interpretation have evolved over time. This study explores Qur’anic interpretations of the hijab and traces its historical development while also examining the impact of social, political, and cultural contexts on its use. Employing a qualitative approach through a literature-based analysis of primary and secondary sources, the research highlights that the hijab functions not only as a religious symbol but also as a marker of cultural identity and, at times, as a form of resistance to Western hegemony. Diverse scholarly interpretations have given rise to variations in hijab practices across the Arab world and the broader Muslim community. Furthermore, ongoing debates in relation to feminism and women’s rights demonstrate that the hijab remains a dynamic and contested discourse, continually reshaped by changing societal contexts.

Abstract

Ethics is a fundamental pillar of the teaching profession, as teachers not only serve as transmitters of knowledge but also as moral exemplars for their students. Contemporary educational realities reveal various challenges, including the decline of integrity, weak mastery of competencies, and violations of professional codes of ethics, all of which undermine the quality of education. On the other hand, modern professional ethics has been formulated through competency standards and professional codes, both nationally and internationally, such as the Indonesian Teachers’ Association (PGRI) Code of Ethics and the UNESCO Teacher Code. However, the spiritual and transcendental dimensions remain relatively overlooked. This article aims to analyze the concept of professional ethics for teachers from the perspective of the Qur’an and to compare it with modern professional ethics. The study employs a qualitative library research method using a thematic (maudhū‘ī) approach, semantic analysis of key Qur’anic terms such as ‘ilm, ḥikmah, amanah, and ṣidq, and a comparative framework. The findings reveal that the Qur’an emphasizes teacher ethics in the domains of knowledge, trustworthiness, honesty, exemplary conduct, and moral commitment, whereas modern ethics highlights competency standards and regulatory frameworks. The comparative analysis identifies both convergences and divergences, suggesting that their integration offers a more comprehensive framework of teacher ethics encompassing spiritual, moral, and professional dimensions.

Abstract

Fasting is one of the pillars of Islam that serves not only as a legal obligation but also as a means of purifying the soul and controlling human desires. In the Sufi tradition, fasting is regarded as a form of riyāḍah al-nafs (spiritual training) that cultivates spiritual awareness and draws believers closer to Allah. This study aims to examine the Sufi values embedded in fasting as interpreted by Abdul Rauf al-Singkili in Tarjuman al-Mustafid and to analyze their relevance for shaping contemporary Muslim spirituality. Employing a qualitative approach with a library research method, this study uses Tarjuman al-Mustafid as the primary source and classical Sufi texts as well as modern scholarly works as secondary sources. The findings reveal that Abdul Rauf emphasized four key values of fasting: sincerity, self-restraint, spiritual awareness, and the stages of takhalli, tahalli, and tajalli. These values contribute to the development of a pious Muslim character and offer solutions to modern challenges such as consumerism, hedonism, psychological stress, and moral decline. This research highlights that Tarjuman al-Mustafid not only enriches the heritage of Qur’anic exegesis in the Malay-Indonesian world but also remains highly relevant in strengthening spirituality and character education among Muslims in contemporary contexts.

Abstract

This research focuses on the study of the concept of qanā’ah and its influence on mental health according to Buya Hamka in Tafsir al-Azhar. The purpose of this research is to explain how Buya Hamka interprets verses related to qanā’ah and its relevance to mental health. The research method used is a qualitative method with a library research approach. The primary source of this research is Tafsir al-Azhar by Buya Hamka, while secondary sources consist of classical and contemporary tafsir books, Sufism books, and Islamic psychology literature. Data analysis was carried out using the thematic method (maudhu’i). The results of the study indicate that qanā’ah according to Buya Hamka includes five dimensions: accepting willingly for what is there, asking for additional sustenance with appropriate efforts, being patient with Allah’s provisions, putting one’s trust in Allah, and not being attracted to the deceit of the world. This concept, when applied, functions as a self-control mechanism that can prevent the emergence of heart diseases such as envy, jealousy, greed, and complaints. From an Islamic psychological perspective, contentment can foster inner peace, gratitude, optimism, and resilience in the face of life’s difficulties. Thus, contentment is not merely a spiritual value but also significantly contributes to achieving individual mental health and social harmony.
