Abstract

Mental health has become an increasingly critical issue in modern society, where stress, anxiety, and depression are prevalent concerns. In this context, exploring how Qur’anic teachings contribute to the understanding and treatment of mental health is essential. This study aims to examine the relationship between Qur’anic teachings and mental health approaches while identifying spiritual principles that support psychological well-being. The research employs a qualitative analysis of relevant Qur’anic verses alongside a literature review on the integration of spirituality into mental health practices. The findings indicate that Qur’anic principles, such as dzikr (remembrance of God), salat (prayer), and tawakkal (reliance on God), offer effective strategies for addressing mental health issues by fostering inner peace and enhancing psychological resilience. The study concludes that integrating spiritual values into mental health approaches not only provides emotional support but also helps individuals cultivate meaning and purpose in life. This knowledge has the potential to contribute to improved mental well-being and overall quality of life in today’s complex society.

Abstract

This study analyzes Sayyid Qutb’s interpretation of Surah An-Nisa: 94 in Fi Zhilal Al-Qur’an, focusing on the concept of jihad he presents. Surah An-Nisa: 94 emphasizes the principle of caution in warfare and the importance of justice and morality in human relations. Sayyid Qutb interprets this verse by highlighting that jihad is not limited to physical warfare, but also a struggle to uphold justice and moral values in social life. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with textual and thematic analysis to explore the meaning of jihad in Qutb’s contextual perspective. The findings show that Qutb views jihad as an ethical struggle, not mere violence. Qutb’s thinking offers a new perspective on jihad that is more moderate and relevant to the current social-religious challenges, emphasizing the principles of justice, morality, and humanity in the struggle for Islam.

Abstract

The rapid advancement of technology has significantly facilitated human activities, particularly in communication. However, technology is often misused for unethical and criminal purposes, such as theft, spreading misinformation, hate speech, and various forms of fraud. This study employs a literature research method with a maudhui approach based on Al-Farmawi’s framework. The findings indicate that the Qur'an provides clear guidance on privacy, security, and ethical principles in the use of technology. These principles serve as a foundation for addressing contemporary issues, including cybercrime, from an Islamic perspective. The study underscores the relevance of Qur'anic values in mitigating the ethical dilemmas posed by technological advancements. For future research, it is recommended to explore the practical implementation of Qur'anic ethical principles in digital policies and cybersecurity frameworks. Additionally, empirical studies on the effectiveness of Islamic ethics in preventing cybercrimes, as well as comparative analyses between Qur’anic perspectives and modern cybersecurity regulations, could provide further insights into developing ethical and secure digital environments.

Abstract

This study presents an in-depth analysis of the concept of women's bay'ah as articulated in QS. Al-Mumtahanah verse 12, emphasizing its rich normative values, historical significance, and relevance within contemporary discourses on gender equality. Employing thematic interpretation and hermeneutic approaches, the study comprehensively examines the Qur’anic text, the Prophetic biography, as well as both classical and modern exegeses to reveal the fundamental values inherent in the practice of bay'ah. The findings indicate that women's bay'ah not only reflects an acknowledgment of the significant contributions of women in the establishment of early Islamic society but also reaffirms essential principles such as monotheism, morality, and adherence to leadership grounded in justice and universal benevolence. Utilizing a qualitative methodology based on library research, this systematic analysis integrates historical data with modern perspectives to yield deep insights into the dynamic interplay between sacred texts and contemporary social contexts. The study is expected to enrich academic discourse, serve as a strategic reference for practitioners and policymakers in formulating inclusive societal development strategies, and foster a critical dialogue between tradition and innovation in Islamic studies. Moreover, the comparative analysis of various interpretative approaches in the history of Islamic thought successfully illustrates the evolution of gender understanding, contributing significantly to the development of a more progressive and contextually relevant Islamic paradigm.

Abstract

This research examines the link between mental health and spirituality, with a focus on the teachings of the Qur’an, as a response to today’s psychological challenges. The main objective of this study is to analyse how spiritual teachings in the Qur’ān can help individuals overcome psychological problems, such as stress, anxiety and depression, that are increasingly faced by modern society. A qualitative approach (library research) was used in this study to examine Qur’anic verses relating to mental and spiritual health and compare them with contemporary psychological theories. The results show that Qur’anic principles, such as tawakkal (surrender), dhikr (remembrance of God), sabr (patience), and gratitude (thankfulness), are effective in supporting the management of individuals’ psychological and emotional states. The study also emphasised the importance of combining spiritual teachings with modern psychological techniques to create a more holistic approach to mental well-being. Based on these findings, the study concludes that Qur’anic spirituality can be a relevant and effective method in helping individuals overcome psychological crises in the contemporary era.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the Qur’anic-based crime prevention concept as interpreted in Tafsir al-Munir by Wahbah az-Zuhaili and to evaluate its relevance to the preventive programs implemented by the Medan Metropolitan Police (Polrestabes Medan). Employing a qualitative-descriptive approach, this research combines library research and field study. The library research utilizes thematic exegesis (tafsir maudhū‘i) of Qur’anic verses addressing justice, social ethics, and the principle of amr ma‘rūf nahy munkar. Meanwhile, the field study was conducted through semi-structured interviews with police officers and religious leaders engaged in crime prevention outreach. Findings reveal that Qur’anic values such as the prohibition of injustice, the protection of life, property, and dignity, and the duty of family moral education are reflected in various programs led by Polrestabes Medan. These include the door-to-door system, community visits, Friday Dialogues, and collaborations with religious institutions such as MUI and Islamic universities. Periodic evaluations indicate the programs’ effectiveness in enhancing public moral awareness and legal consciousness. Despite challenges such as religious diversity and socio-cultural resistance, the integration of religious approaches strengthens community engagement in maintaining social order. This study concludes that the incorporation of Qur’anic interpretations into public security policy contributes significantly to the development of a just, moral, and secure society.

Abstract

The rapid development of information technology has led to the proliferation of information circulating in the digital era, both valid and invalid information. This phenomenon requires the ability of individuals to sort and evaluate the information sharply by applying critical thinking. This study aims to examine the verses of the Qur'an that are in line with the principles and theories of critical thinking and their implementation to problems in the digital era through a thematic interpretation approach. The research method used in this study is a literature study (library research) with a qualitative approach. The results of this study explain that the verses of the Qur'an and also interpretations that are in line with the concept of critical thinking are found in Q.S. Al-Hujurat: 6, Q.S. Al-Isra: 36, Q.S. Maryam: 42, Q.S. Az-Zumar: 18, Q.S. An-Nahl: 125, Q.S. Al-Baqarah: 170 and Q.S. An-Nisa: 135. The interpretation of these verses explains the importance of verifying information (tabayyun), healthy skepticism, rational thinking, being selective about information, being open-minded, and also being objective in thinking and acting.

Abstract

The phenomenon of commercialization of Islam has apparently occurred since the beginning of Islamic civilization, where the Qur’an, hadith and sharia law were exploited by individuals who justified any means to achieve their goals, namely worldly gain. This study is to answer the questions: (1) What are the verses in the Qur’an that explain the prohibition of commercialization of religion?, (2) How do the interpreters interpret the verses that prohibit commercialization of religion?, (3) What are the forms of commercialization of Islam throughout the exploration of the verses of the Qur’an?, (4) How is the relevance of the phenomenon of commercialization of religion to the lives of today’s people?. Several of these problems are discussed through library research with the maudhui interpretation method approach. The data sources in this study are the Qur’an as the primary source and interpretation books. All data are analyzed using a descriptive analysis approach. The results that the researchers found showed that there are nine verses in the Qur’an that seriously discuss the prohibition of commercialization of religion in the keyword tsamanan qoliilaa, be it changing, selling, exchanging the verses of Allah, false oaths, manipulating the truth and misleading the people. These actions will receive the same punishment as the Children of Israel and the Jewish priests, namely severe torture, humiliation and swallowing the embers of hellfire. Currently, this behavior can be carried out by ordinary people, money politics, manipulative influencers, businessmen who label sharia, academics and su’ scholars.

Abstract

This study examines the position of women in the Islamic social structure through the interpretation of the verses of the Qur'an related to the family, a rich and complex topic covering domestic roles to public participation. The main focus is the interpretation of Surah An-Nisa' verse 34 regarding men as “qawwam” (leaders or those responsible) for women. This study uses a qualitative method with a literature study approach, collecting data from books, journals, and other relevant documents. This study shows that scholars such as Al-Thabari, Al-Qurthubi, Ibn Kathir, Fakhruddin Al-Razi, and Al-Baghawi explain that “qawwam” refers to the responsibility of men to protect and provide for the family, not absolute superiority or the revocation of women's rights. Steps to deal with “nusyuz” (disobedience) of wives, such as advice, separation from bed, and light beatings, must be carried out gradually, without excessive violence, and as a last resort to maintain household harmony. Overall, the interpretation of the verses of the Qur'an shows that Islam places women in a noble position with balanced rights and responsibilities, covering the domestic and public spheres, which requires a comprehensive and contextual understanding so that Islamic values ​​remain relevant and answer contemporary challenges. The novelty of this research lies in emphasizing the balance of the role of “qawwam” as a leadership responsibility rather than absolute superiority, as well as the dynamic public participation of women.

Abstract

This study aims to examine in depth the concept of forgiveness (al-‘afw) in the perspective of al-Ālūsī’s interpretation of Rūḥ al-Maʿānī, focusing on relevant verses of the Qur’an and field studies of students and Muslim communities in Medan; QS al-Baqarah: 109, QS al-A‘rāf: 199, QS ash-Syūrā: 40, QS an-Nūr: 22, and QS al-Furqān: 63. This study uses a qualitative method with a case study approach to the interpretation of Al-Alusi as a grand theory used with a thematic (maudu’i) - Sufi approach. The main data were obtained through an in-depth study of the text of the interpretation of al-Ālūsī which was analyzed conceptually and thematically. The results of the study show that forgiveness in al-Ālūsī's interpretation has three main layers of meaning: first, as noble self-control and a manifestation of noble morals; second, as an expression of spiritual power that can only be carried out by spiritually empowered individuals; and third, as the pinnacle of prophetic ethics and the basic principle of prophetic civilization. In contemporary ethics, the value of forgiveness as explained by al-Ālūsī is relevant as a universal ethical foundation that emphasizes moderation, emotional control, and respect for human dignity. The conclusion is that al-Ālūsī's interpretation provides a strong conceptual framework for understanding forgiveness as a transcendent spiritual and ethical value. Forgiveness is an indicator of superior human qualities that are able to go beyond revenge to strengthening morals and spirituality in socio-religious life.
