Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of Fishbowl Technique on EFL Iraqi preparatory pupils’ literary awareness. This study hypothesizes that there is no significant difference in the level of literary awareness between the experimental and control groups. The study uses a Non-Randomized Experimental Group Design and includes a sample of 60 students from the fifth scientific stage at Al-Hikma School for Girls in Al-Alam town in Saladdin, Iraq. Thirty students are in the experimental group Section A and thirty students are in the control group Section B. The study took place over a two-month period, with the researcher instructing two groups of pupils during the academic year 2024-2023. Various statistical methods, including weighted mean and percentile mean, were utilized to assess the pupils' awareness. The analysis of the data showed that teaching pupils using the Fishbowl technique was effective in improving their literary awareness. The findings led to conclusions, recommendations, and suggestions for future research.

Abstract

This study investigates the role of leadership in implementing Islamic business ethics at TBS Kelapa Sawit Mega Lestari, focusing on identifying challenges and strategies to overcome them. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed, involving direct observations, semi-structured interviews with 10 key informants (comprising company leaders, field employees, and local farmers), and an analysis of documentation. Findings indicate that the successful implementation of Islamic business ethics—centered on fairness, honesty, transparency, and social responsibility—is heavily dependent on the leadership's ability to educate employees and establish ethically aligned partnerships. Key challenges identified include employees’ limited understanding of Islamic ethical principles and inconsistencies with partner companies not adhering to these values. To address these, the leadership implemented Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) conducted quarterly to enhance awareness and introduced measures to collaborate with partners fully aligned with Islamic ethics. This study concludes that while notable progress has been made, continuous efforts are required to standardize ethical practices and foster a culture aligned with Islamic principles within the palm oil industry.

Abstract

Cancer survivors face significant financial hardship and psychological distress during treatment. This study investigates the role of religiosity as a coping mechanism for cancer survivors experiencing these challenges. Using an explanatory sequential mixed-method approach, the study analyzed data from 817 patients in the quantitative phase and conducted in-depth interviews with 8 informants representing breast, cervical, lung, and prostate cancer. Quantitative findings indicate that 63% of respondents experienced high financial hardship, while 37% faced moderate hardship. Out-of-pocket expenses, including transportation, accommodation, and uncovered medical costs, contributed to these difficulties. Qualitative interviews revealed that financial strain often led to job loss, debt accumulation, and emotional stress, further exacerbating patient challenges. Religiosity emerged as a critical coping strategy, with participants reporting that spiritual practices and reliance on faith provided emotional strength, reduced depression, and enhanced psychological resilience. This study highlights the need for integrated support systems, including expanded insurance coverage, hospital-based spiritual care, and community-driven support programs. The findings contribute to understanding religiosity’s role in managing financial and psychological burdens, particularly in resource-limited settings such as Eastern Indonesia.

Abstract

This study investigates the effectiveness of Buton Regency's Regional Regulation Number 7 of 2022 on Regional Food Reserves in controlling food price volatility, a critical issue linked to Indonesia's broader food security challenges. The research focuses on two key questions: the process of distributing regional food reserves to mitigate price surges and the factors hindering the successful implementation of the regulation. Using an empirical legal research model, this study examines the functioning of law within the community, integrating primary and secondary data collected through legal document analysis, observation, and interviews with local policymakers and stakeholders. The findings reveal that, while the regulation outlines procedures for managing and distributing food reserves during price surges, these reserves have not been distributed as intended. Key barriers include the lack of supporting regulations, particularly the absence of a regent regulation to provide operational guidelines, and logistical challenges such as inadequate storage facilities. This study highlights the need for stronger regulatory frameworks and operational strategies to ensure effective implementation, contributing to the discourse on food security policy in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study aims to understand the implementation process of the Pikoela Liwu tradition, explore the reasons for its preservation, and analyze the impact of modernization on this tradition in Takimpo Village, Buton Regency. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed, utilizing primary data collected through observations and in-depth interviews with informants selected via snowball sampling, along with secondary data from related documentation. Data analysis was conducted using an interactive analysis model, involving data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion verification. The findings reveal that the Pikoela Liwu tradition is carried out over eight days, featuring a series of rituals including communal prayers, animal sacrifices, the installation of cultural attributes, and traditional dances. The continuity of this tradition is supported by strong community solidarity, ideological resistance to change, and reverence for ancestral cultural values. Modernization has influenced certain aspects, such as population migration, the use of modern materials for traditional house roofs, the shortened duration of rituals, and the replacement of traditional beverages with commercial products. Despite these changes, the tradition remains significant as a symbol of cultural and spiritual identity for the community. This study provides insights into the dynamics of cultural preservation amidst modernization challenges, contributing to the understanding of local cultural sustainability in the era of globalization.

Abstract

This article analyzes the Fraud Hexagon model as a framework for detecting financial statement fraud across various sectors and geographic contexts using the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach. The model incorporates six elements: pressure, opportunity, rationalization, capability, ego, and collusion. The study reviewed 12 SCOPUS-indexed articles focusing on the banking, manufacturing, SMEs, and infrastructure sectors in national and regional contexts. Financial statement fraud results in the highest financial losses among fraud types. The Fraud Hexagon, an evolution of earlier theories, provides a comprehensive approach to fraud detection. This study aims to evaluate the application of the Fraud Hexagon model across sectors to identify critical factors influencing fraud and offer strategic recommendations for improving internal and external controls. Using the PRISMA framework, the study employs the SLR approach to filter and analyze relevant SCOPUS-indexed literature. The study examined fraud detection through stages of keyword analysis, highlighting pressure and collusion in regulated industries. Corporate governance and audit quality enhance detection, but limitations include a lack of behavioral and sector-specific focus. Future research should integrate behavioral and cultural dynamics with advanced analytics.

Abstract

Code-switching is a common linguistic strategy in bilingual or multilingual communities, particularly in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) classrooms. This study investigates the pedagogical functions of code-switching employed by teachers in EFL classroom interactions at MAN 1 Polewali Mandar. Using a descriptive qualitative methodology, data were collected through classroom observations and semi-structured interviews with an English teacher and two classes. The findings reveal that code-switching serves five key functions: emphasizing important points, clarifying questions, checking vocabulary comprehension, reinforcing requests, and checking understanding. These functions facilitate better communication, foster engagement, and enhance students' learning outcomes. The study highlights the strategic value of code-switching in overcoming linguistic barriers, ensuring inclusivity, and fostering an effective learning environment in multilingual classrooms. Practical implications suggest that teachers should utilize code-switching purposefully to address students' needs while gradually encouraging active use of English.
