Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) is a contagious disease that remains a global health challenge, including in Indonesia. In the digital era, online journalism plays a crucial role as an educational tool to enhance public knowledge about TB prevention and treatment. This study aims to explore the strategies employed by online media in disseminating information about TB and their impact on public awareness. This research adopts a qualitative approach, utilizing in-depth interviews with healthcare professionals and content analysis of various digital platforms, including news articles, infographics, and educational campaign videos. By analyzing content from various digital platforms and conducting case studies on health education campaigns, this study found that data-driven information dissemination, such as using the latest TB statistics, visual content like infographics that increased public engagement by 25%, and collaborations with healthcare professionals and influencers are effective strategies. The findings reveal a 30% increase in public awareness regarding TB prevention and treatment efforts following digital campaigns. Online media not only serves as an information source but also as a platform that fosters active public participation in TB prevention and treatment efforts. The proposed recommendations include strengthening cross-sector collaborations, such as between media, healthcare professionals, and community organizations, developing interactive multimedia-based content, and enhancing digital literacy through local community training programs. This study is expected to contribute to TB eradication efforts through more effective health education.

Abstract

This research discusses Islamic counseling guidelines as an effort to build adolescent character amidst the challenges of globalization, with a focus on its implementation at SMK N 1 Panyabungan. Globalization has a major influence on the values and behavior of teenagers, which often conflict with Islamic values. Islamic counseling exists as a solution to help teenagers develop positive character based on religious values. This approach involves spiritual methods, moral education, and the formation of self-awareness through Islamic teachings, such as prayer, dhikr, and understanding the Koran. This research uses a qualitative approach by collecting data through interviews, observation and literature study. The results of the research show that Islamic counseling is effective in increasing students' spiritual and moral awareness, so that they can form the character of teenagers who are tough, independent and have integrity during globalization. This article concludes that Islamic counseling guidelines can be a strategic tool in character education for adolescents in the school environment.

Abstract

This narrative literature review examines the multidimensional role of communication in empowering women-led Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Indonesia. Twenty empirical studies were analyzed to identify how communication shapes digital engagement, organizational dynamics, empowerment processes, and community-based networking. The findings show that communication is not merely a technical tool but an integrated mechanism that supports market expansion, entrepreneurial identity formation, decision making, capacity building, and business resilience. Digital communication enhances visibility and competitiveness, while organizational and interpersonal communication strengthen leadership, coordination, and well-being. Communication within empowerment programs facilitates learning and motivation, and community-based communication provides collective support that reinforces women’s entrepreneurial agency. Despite these strengths, the literature remains largely descriptive and lacks empirical evaluation of communication effectiveness, longitudinal perspectives, and analysis of gender-based communication barriers. Future research should examine specific communication models, assess long-term outcomes, and explore digital storytelling and influencer-based strategies to advance women’s MSME development. This review contributes an integrated framework that highlights communication as a central driver of women’s entrepreneurial empowerment and sustainability.

Abstract

This study investigates the influence of product diversity and service quality on repurchase intention in a modern retail context, with customer satisfaction positioned as an intervening construct. An explanatory quantitative approach was employed, drawing on data collected from 110 consumers of Superindo Daan Mogot through a structured questionnaire. The data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) to examine both direct and indirect relationships among the variables. The results indicate that product diversity and service quality do not exert significant direct effects on repurchase intention. Instead, both variables demonstrate a significant influence on customer satisfaction, which in turn shows a strong positive effect on repurchase intention. These findings suggest that repeat purchasing behavior is shaped less by isolated retail attributes and more by consumers’ evaluative judgments of their overall shopping experience. Customer satisfaction therefore operates as a key explanatory mechanism through which retail performance attributes are internalized into behavioral intention. This study shows that, in a relatively standardized supermarket environment, product diversity and service quality shape repurchase intention primarily through customer satisfaction rather than through direct effects. From a practical perspective, the findings suggest that retail strategies should focus on integrating product assortment quality and service delivery in ways that consistently enhance customer satisfaction and support long-term customer retention.

Abstract

This study examines the impact of the Meleura Tourism Site on employment opportunities, income levels, and community welfare in Lakarinta Village, Lohia District, Muna Regency. Although tourism development is often linked to local economic improvement, empirical evidence at the village level, particularly in coastal tourism areas, remains limited. This study employs a qualitative descriptive approach, with data collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The findings indicate that tourism development has expanded employment in service and trade sectors and significantly increased household income. Average daily earnings rose from approximately IDR 30,000–50,000 before 2021 to IDR 150,000–300,000 during normal tourism seasons, with higher income during peak periods. Tourist arrivals increased steadily from 2,500 visitors in 2021 to 3,800 visitors in 2024, generating multiplier effects across microenterprises such as food stalls, boat rentals, and parking services. These developments have contributed to improved household welfare, stronger community participation, and enhanced local economic resilience. This study contributes to the literature on community-based tourism by providing empirical, village-level evidence of tourism’s socio-economic impacts. A key policy implication is the need for stronger regional government support in infrastructure development, capacity building, and facilitation of small enterprises to ensure sustainable and inclusive tourism growth.

Abstract

Previous studies on expressive speech acts in movies have primarily focused on identifying and classifying types of expressions, with limited attention to their pragmatic functions in contemporary teenage narratives. Moreover, the movie Do Revenge (2022) has not yet been examined from a linguistic or pragmatic perspective, indicating a research gap in the study of expressive speech acts in modern cinematic discourse. To address this gap, this study investigates the types and forms of expressive speech acts used by the characters in the film based on Searle’s (1976) speech act theory. Employing a descriptive qualitative method, the study addresses two research questions concerning the types of expressive speech acts found in the film and the ways these acts are realized in the dialogues. The findings identify six types of expressive speech acts, namely greeting, apologizing, thanking, expressing attitudes, wishing, and congratulating. In total, 55 expressive utterances were found, consisting of 51 direct and 4 indirect speech acts. Greeting appeared as the most dominant type, followed by apologizing and thanking. These findings indicate that expressive speech acts play an important role in representing emotional openness and interpersonal interaction among teenage characters. This study contributes to pragmatic research by demonstrating how expressive speech acts function as interactional resources that shape emotional expression and interpersonal dynamics in teenage film discourse.

Abstract

This study examines the effect of social privilege on cognitive empathy among university students in Indonesia. Using a quantitative correlational design, data were collected from 309 students enrolled in public and private universities across diverse socio-cultural regions. The instruments employed were the Privilege and Oppression Inventory (POI) and the Perspective Taking subscale of the Interpersonal Reactivity Index (IRI). Data were analyzed using simple linear regression. The results indicate a positive but weak relationship between social privilege and cognitive empathy. The regression coefficient (β = 0.10, p = 0.08) suggests that social privilege does not significantly predict cognitive empathy. Consistently, the coefficient of determination (R² = 0.010) shows that social privilege accounts for only 1% of the variance in cognitive empathy, with most variation explained by other psychosocial and contextual factors. These findings suggest that cognitive empathy among university students is shaped more by social interactions and educational experiences than by structural advantage alone. The study underscores the importance of character education and campus policies that foster inclusive learning environments and meaningful cross-group interactions to support empathy development in higher education. This research contributes to discussions on empathy, social inequality, and student development in diverse academic contexts.

Abstract

Reading comprehension and reading anxiety remain persistent challenges among senior high school students learning English as a Foreign Language (EFL), particularly when instruction relies heavily on traditional text-only materials. In the Indonesian EFL context, limited contextual support often contributes to students’ difficulty in understanding texts and increased anxiety. This study investigates the effect of picture-based digital media, specifically the Webtoon application, on improving reading comprehension and reducing reading anxiety among senior high school EFL students. A quasi-experimental design with a pre-test–post-test control group was employed. Fifty-six students were divided into an experimental group receiving Webtoon-based reading instruction and a control group using conventional text-based materials. Data were collected using a reading comprehension test and the Foreign Language Reading Anxiety Scale (FLRAS). Statistical analyses included independent-samples t-tests, paired-samples t-tests, and analysis of covariance (ANCOVA). The results showed that the experimental group achieved a significantly higher post-test mean score in reading comprehension (M = 85.71, SD = 7.29) than the control group (M = 77.50, SD = 7.87), t(54) = 4.049, p < 0.001. ANCOVA confirmed that the instructional method remained a significant predictor after controlling for pre-test scores. Additionally, students in the experimental group experienced a significant reduction in reading anxiety, with FLRAS scores decreasing from pre-test (M = 58.2) to post-test (M = 46.7), t(27) = 6.35, p < 0.001. These findings indicate that Webtoon-based reading instruction functions as both a cognitive and affective scaffold, enhancing comprehension while reducing reading anxiety in EFL classrooms.

Abstract

This study examines how indigenous communities in Takimpo Village, Buton Regency, sustain forest conservation through a local wisdom–based management system known as Kaombo Ohusii (Widow Forest). Using a qualitative ethnographic approach, the study explores how cultural values, indigenous institutions, and spiritual beliefs operate collectively as governance mechanisms in forest management. Data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews with customary leaders and community members, and documentation of indigenous practices related to Kaombo management. The analysis followed the Miles and Huberman interactive model, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing.  The findings reveal two main patterns. First, Kaombo Ohusii functions as an integrated socio-ecological governance system in which customary norms and moral authority regulate forest access without reliance on formal enforcement. Second, the system incorporates social protection by prioritizing access for widows and economically vulnerable women, demonstrating that ecological conservation and social equity are mutually reinforcing within indigenous governance structures. Spiritual beliefs associated with ancestral guardianship further strengthen community compliance and long-term forest stewardship. These findings contribute empirically to discussions on community-based conservation and environmental humanities. From a policy perspective, the study underscores the importance of recognizing and strengthening customary institutions in developing culturally responsive and socially inclusive forest conservation strategies in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study examines the effect of the KIP Kuliah Scholarship on student engagement, both directly and indirectly through organizational commitment, within the context of a private higher education institution in Indonesia. Using a quantitative approach and structural equation modeling with SmartPLS 4, data were collected from KIP Kuliah scholarship recipients to analyze the proposed relationships. The results indicate that the KIP Kuliah Scholarship has a positive and significant effect on organizational commitment and student engagement. The structural model shows strong explanatory power, with an R² value of 0.600 for organizational commitment and 0.876 for student engagement, suggesting that student engagement is largely explained by the combined influence of financial support and organizational commitment. Mediation analysis confirms that organizational commitment plays a significant mediating role in strengthening the relationship between the KIP Kuliah Scholarship and student engagement. This study contributes theoretically by demonstrating organizational commitment as a key internalization mechanism through which external financial support is transformed into sustained student engagement, thereby extending existing scholarship literature beyond direct-effect models.
