Abstract

Trauma remains a leading cause of global mortality and disability, with thoracic trauma representing a critical subset due to its involvement of vital organs and high risk of fatal complications. Despite its clinical significance, comprehensive global assessments focusing specifically on thoracic trauma are limited, particularly those examining disparities across regions and income levels. This study aimed to analyze the global burden and mortality trends of thoracic trauma using World Health Organization (WHO) data, with a focus on regional and economic disparities. Methods: A cross-sectional secondary data analysis was conducted using publicly available datasets from the WHO Global Health Estimates, WHO Injury and Violence Prevention databases, and Global Burden of Disease (GBD) results integrated within WHO reports. Variables analyzed included the incidence and mortality of thoracic trauma, regional distribution based on WHO regions, and comparisons across World Bank income classifications. Thoracic trauma was defined according to WHO injury classifications. Data were analyzed descriptively and presented as absolute numbers, population-based rates where available, and comparative trends across regions and income groups. Results: The analysis demonstrated that thoracic trauma remains a major contributor to global injury-related mortality, with substantial disparities between high-income countries and low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Mortality rates were disproportionately higher in LMICs despite comparable or lower injury incidence, indicating that system-level factors such as limited prehospital care, delayed diagnosis, and restricted access to definitive thoracic surgery play a central role in adverse outcomes. Conclusion: Thoracic trauma represents a significant and inequitable global health burden. Strengthening trauma care systems, particularly in LMICs, is essential to reducing preventable mortality. WHO-based global data provide valuable evidence to support policy development, resource allocation, and targeted interventions aimed at improving trauma outcomes worldwide

Abstract

This study aims to classify disease types based on patient age using the K-Means Clustering method in order to identify disease distribution patterns at Malahayati Islamic Hospital, Medan. The data used in this research consists of medical record data of patients from October to December 2024, including variables such as age, type of disease, gender, and area of residence. The research stages include data cleaning, data transformation of age and disease attributes into numerical values, and clustering analysis using the K-Means algorithm implemented through RapidMiner software. The clustering results produced three main clusters, representing high, moderate, and low disease prevalence levels. Diseases with the highest prevalence cluster include pregnancy-related cases, pneumonia, acute respiratory infections (ISPA), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and gastroenteritis (GEA), which are predominantly found in adult and elderly age groups. The results indicate that patient age significantly influences disease distribution patterns. This study demonstrates that K-Means Clustering is effective in identifying age-based disease patterns and can serve as a decision-support tool for healthcare planning, resource allocation, and disease prevention strategies in hospital management.

Abstract

Lip colorants are cosmetic preparations used to color the lips with an artistic touch, thereby enhancing the aesthetic aspect of facial makeup. This study aims to formulate a lipstick using a natural dye derived from angkak (Monascus purpureus), with variations in the wax base using beeswax and candelilla wax, to produce a safe, comfortable, and long-lasting lipstick product. Methods: This experimental study was conducted in four stages: Stage one, Extraction of Natural Dye: The natural dye from Monascus purpureus was extracted using the maceration method with 96% ethanol as the solvent. Stage two, Lipstick Formulation: Three formulas were developed—F1, F2, and F3—with the following beeswax to candelilla wax ratios: F1 (2 : 3.57), F2 (3.57 : 2), F3 (2.78 : 2.78). Stage three, Physical Quality Evaluation: The formulations were evaluated for organoleptic properties, homogeneity, pH, melting point, spreadability, hardness, and stability. Stage four, Antioxidant Activity Test: To assess the antioxidant potential of the natural dye used. Results: All lipstick formulas exhibited good physical stability and met the required physical quality standards for organoleptic properties, homogeneity, pH, melting point, spreadability, and stability. However, a significant difference was found in the hardness test results, influenced by the varying concentrations of beeswax and candelilla wax. Conclusion: Variations in the concentration of beeswax and candelilla wax affect the physical quality, particularly the hardness of the lipstick. The best hardness result was obtained in Formula 1 (F1), with a beeswax concentration of 2% and candelilla wax concentration of 3.57%.

Abstract

Partial tooth loss can lead to impaired chewing function, speech, and aesthetics, which negatively impact quality of life. One commonly recommended solution is the use of removable partial dentures (RPDs) due to their affordability and practicality. However, the use of RPDs remains low in the community, likely due to limited knowledge and low interest among the population. This study aims to determine the relationship between knowledge and interest in the use of RPDs among patients with partial tooth loss at BLUD UPTD Puskesmas Purwaharja 2, Banjar City. This is a descriptive observational study using a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 96 respondents aged 45–59 years, selected through purposive sampling and meeting the inclusion criteria. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire assessing the level of knowledge and interest in RPDs. The results showed that most respondents had low knowledge (43.2%) but still demonstrated high interest (50.0%). Bivariate analysis using the Chi-Square test showed a significant relationship between knowledge and interest in the use of RPDs (p=0.000). These findings highlight the importance of dental health education as a strategic measure to improve acceptance and use of removable partial dentures in the community.

Abstract

Family conflicts often arise due to low self-efficacy, differences in perception, and mismatched expectations between family members, which can trigger maladaptive behavior and reduce the quality of interpersonal relationships. One technique that nurses can use in their role as counselors to address these dynamics is confrontation, which is the process of helping individuals recognize discrepancies between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of confrontation techniques in counseling practice, specifically in the context of family nursing therapy. The method used was a literature review with an integrative approach to ten scientific articles published between 2017 and 2025. The literature search was conducted through Google Scholar and PubMed databases using the keywords confrontation, counseling, family, and adaptive behavior. The results of the study indicate that confrontation techniques have a positive impact on increasing self-awareness, emotional control, medication adherence, self-acceptance, and the quality of communication and relationships within the family. The effectiveness of this technique is greatly influenced by the counselor's or nurse's ability to apply confrontation empathetically, professionally, and non-judgmentally. It was concluded that confrontation techniques are an effective and adaptive counseling strategy in helping individuals and families develop more constructive behaviors and improve psychosocial well-being.

Abstract

This study aims to design and develop a web-based internship information system for SMK Nusantara 1 to support the administration of students’ industrial work practice. The existing PKL administration process still relies heavily on manual recording using paper forms and spreadsheets, which often leads to data duplication, document loss, and delays in report preparation. The proposed system was developed using the Waterfall model, which includes requirement analysis, system and database design using Unified Modeling Language (UML), implementation with PHP and MySQL, and functional testing through black-box methods. The system provides several main features, including user authentication, management of student and supervisor data, industry placement, daily activity input, supervisor assessment, final report submission, and PKL recap reporting. Testing results indicate that all functional requirements perform correctly, and users—including administrators, school supervisors, company supervisors, and students—reported that the system is easier to use compared to previous manual procedures. Overall, the system enhances transparency, reduces administrative errors, and improves the school’s ability to monitor and evaluate internship activities effectively.
