Abstract

Insects are vital in agriculture because they can benefit or harm plants. This study aimed to obtain data on plant damage intensity and the range of stem borer attacks on nutmeg plantations. The research was conducted in Hila, Seith, and Mamala villages, Leihitu District, Central Maluku Regency, in July 2024. The results showed that the damage intensity of nutmeg plants due to stem borer attacks (Batocera hercules) in Leihitu District was 9.66%, with the highest damage intensity in Seith village at 10.32%, followed by that of Hila village at 9.82%, and the lowest one was that of Mamala village at 8.83%, which are all categorized as mild criteria. The range of stem borer (Batocera hercules) attacks on nutmeg plantations was 45.24%; the highest one was that of Seith village at 48.53%, followed by that of Hila village at 43.93%, and the lowest one was 43.25% in Mamala village, and all were categorized as moderate criteria

Abstract

The production of lychee seedlings as a source of rootstock in plant propagation techniques by grafting is very rare. Lychee seeds are recalcitrant seeds, so they are prone to deterioration in seed quality after harvest. The longer the storage time of lychee seeds after harvest, the greater the decline in the quality of the lychee seedlings. Landetox Green liquid nutrition is one type of plant nutrition that is specially made to stimulate the vegetative growth of plants. The use of the right level of Landetox Green liquid nutrient concentration has an effect on the growth of quality lychee seedlings. The purpose of this study was to determine the combination of treatment levels of liquid nutrient concentrations of Green Landetox and the appropriate storage time for seeds after harvest to increase the growth of lychee seedlings in the nursery.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to evaluate how the development and yield of the cucumber plant of the Roberto variety (Cucumis sativus L.) were influenced by the lateral branch pruning method and the application rate of NPK fertilizer. The doses of NPK fertilizer, particularly without fertilizer (D0), 10 g/plant (D1), 20 g/plant (D2), and 30 g/plant (D3), as well as lateral branch pruning methods, i.e., without pruning (P0), pruning at the first to fifth nodes (P1), and pruning at the sixth to tenth nodes (P2), were the treatments evaluated. Factorial design in random block design (RBD) with three replicates was used to conduct the study. The number of plants, height, leaves, male and female flowers, diameter and length of fruits, and weight were among the observation criteria. The number of leaves, the number of male and female flowers, and the diameter of the fruit were all significantly affected by lateral branch pruning, according to the data. In addition, the NPK fertilizer dosage significantly affected the yield and growth of cucumbers on most of the characteristics measured. Yields increase synergistically when pruning and NPK fertilizer dosage are combined. In conclusion, the Roberto cucumber variety can maximize growth and yield by combining lateral branch pruning with the right dosage of NPK fertilizer. Cucumber cultivation techniques can be based on the findings of this study to increase productivity.

Abstract

This study aims to identify and describe soil morphological traits in the granite toposequence and analyze these traits to assess the similarity index between soil profiles. This study used a survey method involving transect observations and complete profile observations. Variable soil observations were made in a downward direction, following each change in slope segment on the granite toposequence. The results showed that Cambisol (Dystrudepts) soils developed with physical and chemical properties on three profiles for soil color ranging from yellowish brown to brownish yellow and yellowish red to red. The soil texture ranges from loamy sand to dusty clay, and the soil structure is rounded cubical. The soil has an acidic to slightly acidic pH and a slightly sticky consistency when moist and very low to low C-organic content. The similarity index assessed in the three profiles includes parameters such as dust/clay ratio, pH H₂O, and C-organic, which are very similar due to the similarity of the constituent rock formations.

Abstract

Kenari (Canarium indicum) has high potential as a raw material for tempeh due to its rich nutritional content and functional value. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of yeast concentration on the chemical and organoleptic characteristics of kenari tempeh and determine the optimal yeast concentration for producing high-quality tempeh. A Completely Randomized Design was employed with four yeast concentration treatments (0.5%, 1.5%, 2.5%, and 3.5%), each replicated three times. The analysis included chemical parameters (moisture, ash, protein, fat, fiber, and carbohydrate content) and organoleptic evaluation. The results indicated that yeast concentration significantly affected all chemical parameters of kenari tempeh. A 0.5% yeast concentration produced the best chemical characteristics, with a moisture content of 31.80%, ash content of 1.66%, protein content of 8.90%, fat content of 45.52%, fiber content of 3.38%, and carbohydrate content of 10.27%. Meanwhile, yeast concentration did not affect the organoleptic characteristics of color and appearance but significantly influenced taste, texture, aroma, and overall acceptability. The 0.5% yeast concentration resulted in kenari tempeh with the highest panelist acceptance, with a "like" score for taste, texture, aroma, and overall, and a "somewhat like" score for color and appearance. The hedonic quality of kenari tempeh exhibited fairly uniform color consistency, strong kenari flavor, soft texture in the mouth, and a distinctive fermented aroma. In conclusion, the 0.5% yeast concentration is the optimal choice for producing kenari tempeh with the best chemical and organoleptic characteristics, supporting the diversification of local food products based on kenari.

Abstract

Indonesia has traditionally grown cassava (Manihot esculenta Crantz), a member of the Euphorbiaceae family, as a major food crop. Morphological changes in size, shape, color, and yield are the result of adaptation processes. The goal of Indonesia's cassava breeding program is to create sweet and bitter varieties that are high yielding, disease and pest-tolerant, have restricted branching, have good tuber form, are able to adapt to different soil and climate conditions, and mature at the right time. The purpose of this study was to determine the morphological traits of the cassava varieties found in Central Maluku Regency's Leihitu District. Descriptive analysis was used to perform research in eight villages: Morella, Mamala, Hitu Meseng, Hitu Lama, Wakal, Hila, Kaitetu, and Seith. English cassava, Bisstein cassava, Karas (Bitter) cassava, Porridge (Lombo) cassava, Sukabumi cassava, Kapok cassava, and Mantega cassava were the eight types named. Whereas Morella and Mamala Villages had the least amount of varietal variation, Kaitetu Village had the most. Significant morphological variety among cassava varieties in Leihitu District was indicated by dendrogram analysis, which showed two to seven groups at kinship distance scales of 5 to 25.
