Abstract

ABSTRACT The definition of language in the sociolinguistic field is influenced by three important elements, namely the social status of the language actors, the situation of the language and the form of the language that embodies (entities) oral or written structures. This last aspect is highlighted in this article, it includes morphological elements (inflection and morphemic processes of words); syntactic elements (sentence structure and hierakhi structure). The oral structure of the Japanese language emphasizes communication through the language in its entirety, involving all of the above points. So that each form of language changes according to the social dimension that crosses the space of speech. The change in discourse will eventually be recognized as a form of language that shows or reflects Japanese politeness. So, when we observe the form of the language in Japanese, it will be the same as observing the polite behavior of the Japanese people. The objective of this study is to examine the forms of language in the field of Japanese politeness and its relationship with the social dimensions of society. Keywords: sociolinguistics, uchi-soto, kinship, social dimension

Abstract

This study discusses cultural elements in the Indonesian fairy tales of Si Kelingking and Issunboushi from Japan, focusing on the social organization system, livelihood, arts, religion, language, and technology system. A descriptive qualitative approach is used to analyze the similarities and differences between the two fairy tales. The results show that Si Kelingking emphasizes family-based and kingdom-based social organizations, and depicts a diversity of livelihoods through farming and hunting. In contrast, Issunboushi focuses more on agriculture as a source of livelihood. In terms of art, Si Kelingking displays a wedding feast that reflects the collective values of society, while Issunboushi displays kenjutsu (martial arts) and waka (classical poetry), which emphasize philosophical values. In terms of religion, Si Kelingking reflects traditional beliefs based on myths and nature, while Issunboushi is influenced by Buddhist teachings with an emphasis on morality and spirituality. Another difference is seen in the use of language, where Si Kelingking uses Indonesian with Malay influences, while Issunboushi uses everyday Japanese. In terms of technology, Si Kelingking features simple elements such as "kerusung" clothing, village settlements, and horses, while Issunboushi highlights the more complex sokutai, goten, and ox carts. This study concludes that both fairy tales reflect unique local cultural values, while also showing how universal cultural elements can be adapted to the social, geographical, and historical contexts of each society. Abstract

This article discusses the forms and functions of declarative illocutionary acts performed by the character Hibiki in the film HIBIKI: Shousetsuka ni Naru Houhou. This study employs a descriptive qualitative method with a pragmatic approach. Data were collected using observation and note-taking techniques, then analyzed using speech act theory by J.L. Austin and Searle, supported by local theories from Usami Mayumi (2002) and Kindaichi Haruhiko (1957). The results show that the character Hibiki uses declarative speech acts both directly and indirectly, not only in formal contexts but also in informal situations with social impact. The sub-function of Statements was found to be the most dominant, followed by Declaration of Intention and Ultimatum. This study reveals that illocutionary force in Japanese culture can be effectively conveyed through implicit speech forms, as long as they are supported by social context and the speaker’s position. Keywords: speech act, declaration, illocution, Japanese film, pragmatics, Hibiki
