Abstract

The purpose of this research was to know the students’ ability in pronounce of speaking English used Tik-tok application in English learning at English education program of UMB. This research was designed as descriptive qualitative method. The subject of this research were the sixth semester of English education program of Muhammadiyah Univesity of Bengkulu. The instrument of research were test by video recording. Data analysis technique taken by using Hughes’ speaking rubrics such as fluency, pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, and detail. The result of the research was students ability in pronounce of speaking English used Tik-tok application of score obtained 3.6 score which mean that the students ability in pronounce of speaking English used Tik-tok application was good level of category. Abstract

This research aims to find out students' responses or opinions regarding the use of English stickers in the WhatsApp application in the learning process. The subjects of this research were class 6A students at SDN 68 Bengkulu City. 13 children have used stickers in the WhatsApp application to interact with both friends and teachers. Researchers used interview guidelines to collect data. The results of this research show that the majority of children show a positive response to the use of English stickers on WhatsApp as a learning method. Kata kunci : Learning, WhatsApp, Stickers, Social Media.

Abstract

TED is a series of informative, educational, and inspiring talks that present ideas worth spreading. Students have the opportunity to develop their speaking and listening skills. The aims of this research were to find out and describe at English Education Program students’ perception on TED talks videos. The design of this research was descriptive qualitative method. The subject of this research was the 5th semester students. The instrument used in collecting the data was the interview list with a recorder. The result of this research showed that the students’ perception on TED talks videos was positive. They have already known and watched TED talks videos. Those videos inspired and motivated and TED talks videos is easily accessible as a medium for students to learn English. Those videos can be used to learn and improve students’ speaking and listening skills, increase vocabulary and improve English pronunciation. It can be as a medium to learn public speaking, such as mastering stage skills, facial expressions, body language, and eye contact. TED talks videos also can be as a medium to learn good presentation. The researcher suggested for the students it’s better for them to use TED talks videos as a medium for learning English, especially speaking and listening skills. For the lectures, the TED talks videos can be used as a reference for teaching speaking and listening skills so that the media used is more diverse. Keywords: Students, Perception, TED

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine students’ perceptions of lecturers’ roles in online clasroom in the second, fourth and sixth semester students of English Education Program of Muhammadiyah University of Bengkulu. The researchers used the qualitative research method. The qualitative research was used to obtain more in-depth information on the students perceptions of lecturers’ roles in online classes. The research subjects were all the second, fourth and sixth semester students of English Education Study Program at Muhammadiyah University of Bengkulu. There were 107 students in total. The researchers used the questionnaire as the instrument in this study. The questionnaire was adopted from Huang (2017). The findings indicated that the perception of the second semester students was positive response with the criteria good. The fourth semester students’ perception is mostly positive response with the criteria very good, while many of the sixth semester students chose positive responses with the criteria very good. It means that the findings can guarantee that the students of English study study program of Muhammadiyah University of Bengkulu averagely have a good perception of the lecturers’ role in online classes. Abstract

The research gap is a situation where inconsistentcies or gaps are found between occurs due to differences in results, concepts, data and theories from research results. The objective of this study is to find out about a) what are research gap strategies used by the researcher, and b) what is dominant research gap strategies used in the article introduction section in Teaching English as Foreign Language (TEFL). This research aims to identify the research gap strategies in article intoductions section in SINTA 1 journals. The jounals were taken in (IJOLE, SIELE, TEFLIN) journals, and were analyzed on five elements of research gap strategies following Arianto et al. (2021). Therefore, future studies have to analyze more extensive samples obtained from more journals to represent the feature of the articles in the journals regarding the RG strategies. Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the level of reading interest and the factors that influence the reading interest of fourth and sixth semester students of English Education Study Program of Muhammadiyah University of Bengkulu towards literary reading. Therefore, this research method is qualitative research. This research uses a qualitative approach by using descriptive qualitative. Data were obtained through questionnaires and interviews. The questionnaire is to find out the level of students' reading interest in literary reading, while the interview is to get more in-depth information related to students' reading interest in literary reading. The subjects of this study were fourth and sixth semester students of English Education Study Program totaling 40 students as respondents for questionnaires and from the 40 students, 10 students were taken as informants for interviews. From the results of the study, the researcher found that the average student reading interest level was quite high with the following details: 8 (20%) students got the “Low” category, 26 (65%) students got the “Medium” category, and 6 (15%) students got the “High” category. Meanwhile, the results of the study through interviews found more in-depth information on factors affecting student reading interests, namely: Building knowledge of reading literacy, willingness to read, the role of literary reading, personal interests, and the benefits of literary reading. Students state that reading literary works can add to their knowledge of reading, hone creativity, and can also hone them to think critically. Therefore, it is a factor that affects the high interest in reading students in the fourth and sixth semester, so students still familiarize themselves to read literary works. Abstract

This study was to investigate students' perceptions of ChatGPT on writing skill in English Study Program of Muhammadiyah University. The purpose of this study was to find out the perceptions of students of English education program in ChatGPT for writing skill. This research is a qualitative descriptive method. In this study, researchers used questionnaires and interviews in obtaining data. The subjects of this study were fourth semester and sixth semester students who attended writing classes. The result of this study shows that the use of ChatGPT in the fourth and sixth semester of Language Education Study Program has been utilized well. As a result, the researcher was able to make a strong classification of the data collected, suggesting that students see the use of ChatGPT as an aid in the process of improving writing skills although there are still students who do not give a positive response to ChatGPT but overall the results of the research and discussion show that students give a good response to ChatGPT during the learning process. They showed positive responses to the ease of use of ChatGPT, increased knowledge, satisfaction with the speed and accuracy of ChatGPT responses, more efficient use of time, and increased engagement. Abstract

In presentation, speech transitions are words and phrases that allow someone to smoothly move from one point to another so that a presentation is unified and it is easier for the audience to understand an argument without confusing to how one point relates to another. The goal of this study is to investigate 21 English students using observation sheet when the students delivering presentation at Semantics and Pragmatics class. Data is described qualitatively to know the speech transitions used by students in one semester in academic year 20232 Key Words: Speech Transition, Semantics and Pragmatics class.

Abstract

Problem Based Learning (PBL) is an instructional method in which students learn through solving problem and reflecting on their experiences. The statement of the problems of this research were: (1) Is Problem based learning method effective in teaching reading descriptive text at the 10th grade of SMA IT Dhiaul Fikri in the school year 2021-2022 (2) To what extent is the effect of Problem Based Learning method in reading descriptive text at the 10th grade of SMA IT Dhiaul Fikri in the school year 2021-2022. The purpose of this research is to know whether Problem Based Learning is effective in reading descriptive text at the tenth grade of SMA IT Dhiaul Fikri in the school year 2020-2021 and to know the extent of the effect of Problem Based Learning method in reading descriptive text at the tenth grades of SMA IT Dhiaul Fikri in the school year 2020-2021. This study used an experimental design. The population of the research was 30 students and the sample was 30 students from all of the population. In collecting data, the researcher used instrument to measure the effect of Problem Based Learning method on students’ reading descriptive text. To analyze the data, the researcher used paired-samples t-test. The result of data analysis that there was a significant difference in the scores between the pre-test and the post-test, t(df=29) = 5.203 at p = 0.000, meaning that the null hypothesis is rejected (Ho) and alternative hypothesis is accepted (Ha). It means that there was a significant effect of Problem based learning method on reading descriptive text for the tenth graders of SMA IT Dhiaul Fikri in the school year 2020-2021.

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the effectivitas of the Cooperative Learning Model Gallery Walk type on the motivation of 10th- Grade students in Visual Communication Design at SMK Negeri 3 Kepahiang. The research is of a descriptive qualitative nature, with the entire population consisting of 10th- Grade Communication design students at SMK Negeri 3 Kepahiang. Data for this study were collected through surveys, observations and interviews. The finding indicated that students display increased motivations during English lessons, show greater participation, contribute to a more engaging classroom environment, and maintain better focus during learning activities.
