Abstract

Mathematics, as a science that has existed since ancient times, has a long history that dates back to the Babylonian civilization. However, not all Mathematics Education students have a good understanding of the mathematics of that era. This research aims to find out and explore Mathematics Education students' understanding of Babylonian Mathematics. This research uses a qualitative approach with literature review and case study methods To achieve these objectives, this research uses two methods, namely literature review and case study. The literature review was conducted to study the development of mathematics in Babylon based on various sources. Meanwhile, case studies were conducted by interviewing five Mathematics Education students of class 2024 who had not completed the History of Mathematics course. The results of this study are expected to provide a clear picture of students' knowledge of Babylonian Mathematics, including the number system, historical heritage, and mathematical concepts developed at that time. In addition, this study will also test students' ability to solve problems related to Babylonian Mathematics. The implication and benefit of this research is to measure how far the understanding of prospective mathematics teacher students related to Babylonian mathematics.

Abstract

Abstract

This study analyzes and compares the presentation of curved-surface three-dimensional shapes (cylinder, cone, and sphere) in three different mathematics textbooks: an international textbook from India, a textbook based on Indonesia's Kurikulum Merdeka, and a textbook based on Indonesia's 2013 Curriculum. Using a qualitative approach, the research evaluates content accuracy (facts, concepts, principles), variation in cognitive question levels (based on Bloom's taxonomy), alignment with PISA standards, and the development of problem-solving skills. Findings indicate that the International Book maintains consistency in presenting facts and principles but lacks higher-order questions (C5-C6). The Merdeka Curriculum adopts a contextual approach but contains conceptual errors, such as inconsistencies in units and cone formulas. Meanwhile, the 2013 Curriculum offers a diverse range of questions up to the creativity level (C6), despite inaccuracies in the definition of three-dimensional shape similarity. The study concludes that improvements are needed in conceptual consistency, increasing the proportion of problem-solving questions, and integrating real-world contexts according to PISA standards The results of this study are beneficial for educators and textbook developers in creating more effective materials to enhance students' understanding and critical thinking skills.

Abstract

Students must have good literacy skills because literacy skills are the standard for the nation's progress and mastery of life skills. Numeracy literacy helps students understand the role of mathematics in solving everyday life problems. This research aims to develop STEM-based mathematics learning videos to improve numeracy literacy skills. This research uses the R&D approach to the ADDIE development model. The subjects in the research were material expert validators and multimedia experts as well as 33 class X students. The instruments used are needs analysis sheets, material validation sheets, multimedia validation sheets, acceptance sheets, and test instruments. The research results obtained were the average validation results of content/learning video material of 4.15 in the feasible category, the average validation results of the multimedia learning video construction that was developed was 4.3 in the very feasible category, as well as the average domain validation results. multimedia acceptability was 4.35 in the very high acceptability category, while the effectiveness test obtained a pretest average of 6.67 while the posttest average value was 66.8. The increase in posttest scores compared to the pretest shows that the test using STEM-based learning videos can effectively improve students' literacy and numeracy skills. The application of STEM-based learning videos can also increase students' learning motivation and interest in learning, this can be seen from student activity and interest in studying the videos developed.

Abstract

Students' critical thinking process in solving problems involves several stages, starting from interpretation, analysis, evaluation, inference, explanation, and self-regulation. This research is a descriptive type of research with a qualitative approach which aims to analyze students' critical thinking processes in working on mathematical problems on quadratic functions. The subjects in this research were four class The research was carried out boldly using Google Classroom and Google Meet media. Google Classroom media is used as a medium for giving test sheets to subjects and a place for subjects to collect answers, while Google Meet media is used to interview subjects. Based on the results of work and interviews with the four subjects, the results showed that students' critical thinking abilities included aspects of interpretation, analysis, evaluation and interference. Students 1) did not write down what was asked; 2) make a few calculation errors; 3) incorrectly writing the conclusion; 4) unable to provide logical reasons regarding the steps taken; 5) not re-checking. Teachers are expected to teach concepts related to mathematics, not just provide formulas without providing the origin of why the formula was created.

Abstract

Critical thinking is very necessary to face the development of the era that continues to develop. The international instrument that is often used to measure mathematical critical thinking skills is the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA). This qualitative research with a descriptive approach aims to describe the process of students' mathematical critical thinking in solving PISA questions on the content of change and relationship in terms of self-regulated learning. The subjects of this study were one subject with a high self-regulated learning category and one subject with a moderate self-regulated learning category in grade VIII. The selection of subjects was based on the results of the self-regulated learning questionnaire criteria and the results of critical thinking tests. The results of the analysis obtained showed that students with high self-regulated learning had a superior mathematical critical thinking process compared to students with moderate self-regulated learning. Subjects with high self-regulated learning not only understood the questions well, but were also able to analyze them in depth, evaluate the results of their work, and draw logical and relevant conclusions. In contrast, subjects with moderate self-regulated learning were still able to solve the questions, but with simpler strategies and less in-depth thinking. They tended to follow standard procedures without further exploration of the concepts underlying problem solving.
