Abstract

Abstract. Morotai Waters, located in North of Maluku, has panoramic coastal waters and marine natural beautiful view, and rich of fishery resources, so it is potentially to be developed as a location for recreation area, mariculture, and fisheries industries. For those reasons, the development need a lot of base data, one of the data base is heavy metals. Heavy metals comes from various human activities, both on land and at sea and geological process. Heavy metals in low levels needed by aquatic organisms for the growth and development of its life, but high levels are toxic. Measurement of levels of heavy metals Pb, Cd, Cu, Zn, Ni, and Cr in the sediment in the waters of Morotai was conducted in June 2005. Sediment samples is taken using gravity cores at 13 research stations. The levels of heavy metals were measured using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS). The purpose of this study was to evaluate the contamination and pollution of heavy metals pollution level in Morotai Island waters using CF, I_geo, and PLI. The results of this study show that, based on the value of contamination factors (CF), geoaccumulation indices (I_geo) and pollution load indices (PLI), sediment in this water is include to uncontamination and unpolluted category and is still safe for marine life (CF0, I_geo0 and PLI 1).Keywords:  Morotai; sediment; heavy metal; pollutions Abstrak.

Abstract

Fishing port scan support fishery resources management by incorporating social-economic activities to improve the local community's welfare; however, it can also negatively impact the environment by increasing waste pollution to the surrounding waters. Kutaraja Fishing Port, Banda Aceh, is one of the active fishing ports that conduct multiple activities, such as industrials, transportations, and domestic activities threatening the environment through the production of pollution such as heavy metals. The purpose of this study is to determine the concentration of heavy metals Zinc (Zn) and Chromium (Cr) and the sediment contamination level in the Kutaraja Fishing Port, Banda Aceh. This research was conducted in February 2021 at the water site of Samudra Kutaraja Fishing Port, Banda Aceh, and sampled sediments using the purposive sampling method. Samples were then analyzed for heavy metal concentration using the Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS) instrument in the laboratory of the Aceh Industrial Research and Standardization Center (BARISTAND). The results showed that the concentration of heavy metal Zn ranged from 15.6507 - 27.2939 mg/kg. The majority of heavy metal Cr concentrations were below the test limit of 0.000, except at station 2, which was 9.1212. Both heavy metal concentrations are still categorized as low contamination criteria and still below the Australian and New Zealand Environment and Conservation Council (ANZECC, 2000) and the Canadian Council of Ministers for the Environment (CCME, 2002). This research proved that both heavy metals do not threaten the biota and have a low contamination level in the waters. Keywords:SedimentHeavy metal (Zn)Heavy metal (Cr)Atomic-absorptionSpectro-photometerAssessment

Abstract

Abstract. Gastropods can respond to pesticide pollution in the environment because their life is relatively sedentary and their movements are very limited. The character of pesticides are not selective and persistent can result in bioaccumulation of pesticide content in gastropod. Hence, the  aim of the study was to determine the levels of pesticide residues that accumulate in the gastropod body at Kalisat River, Malang Regency. The pesticide residues in gastropods was measured using High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). Data were analyzed descriptively comparative or compared with the quality standards which exceeded the maximum residual limit set by the EU Pesticide Database. The results showed that pyrethroid pesticides were found with the active ingredient beta-cyfluthrin (mean 0.05 mg/g) and carbamate group with three highest active ingredients namely propoxur (average value of 0.15 mg/g), carbofuran (average value of  0.16 mg/g) and carbaryl (average value of 0.11 mg/g). Bioaccumulation factor values at all stations are greater than 1 (BAF1) that indicates the gastropods can accumulate pesticide residues. Keywords: bioaccumulation, gastropod, pesticide residues, Kalisat River Abstrak.

Abstract

Abstract. This research examines the influence of ENSO (El Niño and Southern Oscillation) in the Malacca Strait with the southern oscillation index using the Pacific Ocean in determining the condition of Normal, El Niño and La Nina as the analysis of mass transpor of sea water, sea surface elevation and the density of the sea. The research methods using the Navier-Stokes equations with force generating tides, winds from the National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) Year 1980- 007, salinity(Levitus and Boyer, 1994a) and temperature (Levitus and Boyer, 1994b). Equations of motion of the sea water were modeled with the model of Hamburg Shelf Ocean Model (HAMSOM). The results show that the transport in northwestern part of the Malacca Strait is lower, but in the southeastern part is stronger compared to that of in Normal and La Nina events. While in Sea Level Elevation at El Niño event is lower compared to that of in Normal and La Nina events. For sea surface density, the density values are 18.5 s/d 20.5 kg/m3 while for the later 30-50 m, the values are 19-21 kg/m3. Sea surface density and density for layer 30-50 m in th southeastern part of Malacca Strait for El Niño events are higher than that of in normal and La Nina event. Key words: Sea level elevation, sea density and Hamsom model
