Abstract

This research is motivated by the importance of the teacher's role in creating a meaningful learning process, as depicted in the film "Freedom Writers." The purpose of this study is to analyze the role of the teacher shown in the film based on Jeremy Harmer's theory of the teacher's role and to examine the emerging discourse using Teun A. van Dijk's Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) model. This study employed a descriptive qualitative method, with data collection techniques through observation and documentation of dialogue and scenes in the film. The results indicate that the teacher in "Freedom Writers" plays the role of controller, prompter, participant, resource, and tutor. Critical discourse analysis reveals that text structure, social cognition, and social context significantly influence the portrayal of the teacher's role in the film. This research is expected to inspire and serve as a reflection for teachers and prospective teachers in educating students.

Abstract

Pondok Pesantren Muhktariyah Ambai is a private Islamic boarding school that accommodates both Tsanawiyah (junior high) and Aliyah (senior high) levels. It is located in Ambai Bawah Village, Sitinjau Laut District, Kerinci Regency, Jambi Province. Each year, the school admits new students from various schools across Kerinci Regency, Sungai Penuh City, and other surrounding regions. This study applies data mining concepts using the K-Medoid clustering algorithm to determine the distribution of new students based on their geographic origins and previous schools before continuing their education at Pondok Pesantren Muhktariyah Ambai. The data obtained can help the foundation identify which schools contribute the highest number of new students. The dataset used in this study consists of 2024 student data with attributes including Name, Gender, Previous School, and Address. The results of the study show the formation of three clusters: Cluster 0 consists of the largest group of new students, primarily from the Ambai area and from elementary schools located in Ambai Village; Cluster 1 includes students from Sungai Penuh and its surroundings; and Cluster 2 represents students from outside the region, who make up the smallest number of new enrollees at Pondok Pesantren Muhktariyah Ambai.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to find out the role of PNM Mekaar Syariah in developing micro businesses and how to utilize the business capital provided by PNM Mekaar Syariah for customers. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method, the objectives and data sources used are primary data and secondary data, the data collection techniques used are interviews and documentation. Based on the results of the research conducted, it can be seen that PNM Mekaar Syariah has a role in developing customers' micro businesses. Because, with the capital financing provided by PNM Mekaar Syariah, it can help customers in running their businesses. Apart from that, PNM also plays a role in providing assistance and business training to customers while running their business. However, this assistance did not work effectively because many customers were unable to attend the weekly meeting. The meeting aims to nail down the payment of weekly financing installments as well as mentoring and training. This lack of assistance has led to misuse of capital for some customers. However, most customers have made good use of this capital to run their businesses.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the implementation of classroom interaction categories in writing classes at SMK PGRI 2 Gianyar from the perspective of information sources and to identify the constraints in applying multi-way interaction. This qualitative descriptive research involved tenth-grade students and their English teacher as participants. Data were collected through classroom observations, interviews, and field notes, focusing on the interaction patterns during teaching and learning activities. The findings revealed that 20 categories of the FLINT System were applied during three observation sessions. From the perspective of information sources, the teaching and learning process tended to be dominated by two-way interaction, with the teacher acting as the primary source of information. Several constraints were identified in promoting multi-way interaction, including limited time allocation, lack of teaching variety, and students’ passive behavior during lessons. Interviews also highlighted issues such as students’ minimal responses, lack of initiative during discussions, and the perception that English is difficult to learn. These findings indicate the need for strategies to create more balanced and interactive classrooms, where students can actively participate and develop better communication skills. This study is expected to provide insights for teachers in designing more engaging and effective classroom interactions to support the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the legal liability of business actors in Indonesia within the existing legal framework, including the Consumer Protection Law, Civil Law, and Criminal Law. The research employs a qualitative approach with a case study method to explore in depth various violations involving business actors. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with legal experts, legal document analysis, and case studies from court reports. The findings indicate that the legal liability of business actors in Indonesia covers both civil and criminal aspects, focusing on consumer protection, contractual obligations, and the prevention of negative impacts on society and the environment. However, the implementation of such responsibilities is often hindered by weak law enforcement, low consumer legal awareness, and power imbalances between business actors and affected parties. This study recommends strengthening regulations, raising legal awareness, and fostering synergy among supervisory institutions to ensure that the legal liability of business actors is effectively enforced.

Abstract

This paper presents the pros and cons among scholars regarding punishment as a method in education. The group in favor of using rewards argues that completely eliminating rewards can lead to positive outcomes. Among these, children may develop a sense of respect for parents and teachers, show more attention to the lessons taught, and become more concerned about values, norms, and applicable laws. The Qur'an contains many references to rewards. However, parents and teachers' understanding of rewards is often limited to punishment, with physical punishment being the primary choice. At times, the rewards given do not align with the guidance found in the Qur'an. This study uses library research with a maudhu'i (thematic) method. The analysis was conducted with the help of tafsir texts and educational books, and a conclusion was drawn. This research reveals that according to the indications of the Qur'an, a reward is a compensation or reward deliberately and consciously given by the educator to the student, which leads to awareness. The types of rewards that can be applied based on Qur'anic verses include non-physical punishment, as mentioned in Q.S. an-Nisa' verse 34, material punishment in Q.S. al-Maidah verse 89, and physical punishment in Q.S. al-Baqarah verses 178-179.

This research is a semi-experimental design research. The design format used is Nonequivalent Control Group Desain. The research community in this research reached 66 people consisting of two classes. The research sample consists of 33 individuals from the experimental category and 33 people from the control category. The data analysis method used is normal state testing, homogeneity testing, and hypothesis testing. It can be concluded that there is a significant impact on the outcome of students' education using the video medium and using traditional methods. This was reinforced by the hypothesis test score of 0.05, and the result of Sig was < 0.05 (0,001 < 0.05) and t hitung > t tabel t (2,348 < 3,391) so that it can be concluded that there is an effect of video means on the result of teaching grammar in experimental class students compared to the traditional method in the control classroom.
