Abstract

The development of digital technology has brought significant changes to various aspects of education, including learning assessment systems. Islamic Religious Education (IRE), as a subject aimed at shaping students who are faithful, knowledgeable, and possess noble character, requires a comprehensive and contextual assessment approach. Authentic assessment emerges as an alternative evaluation method that holistically measures students’ cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains through tasks that reflect real-life situations. This paper aims to examine the concept of authentic assessment, its innovative forms in Islamic Religious Education learning in the digital era, as well as the challenges and opportunities of its implementation. This study employs a qualitative approach through a literature review of recent scholarly sources, educational regulations, and both classical and contemporary literature in Islamic education. The findings indicate that the integration of digital technology into authentic assessment in Islamic Religious Education can enhance the objectivity, efficiency, and relevance of assessment, while also supporting the internalization of Islamic values in students’ daily lives. Therefore, strengthening teachers’ competencies and developing digital-based assessment instruments are urgent needs in the advancement of Islamic Religious Education learning.

Abstract

English for Specific Purposes (ESP) is an approach to English language teaching designed based on learners’ academic and professional needs. In the context of modern education, particularly in higher education and vocational education, the use of English for General Purposes (EGP) is considered insufficient to fully address the demands for specific language competencies aligned with particular fields of study and the workplace. Therefore, the implementation of ESP is essential to enhance the relevance of English language learning to learners’ real needs. This study aims to analyze the concept and characteristics of English for Specific Purposes and to examine its implementation in the learning process within educational settings. The research method employs a qualitative approach, with data collected through a literature review of books, national and international journal articles, and curriculum documents related to ESP instruction. The findings indicate that ESP learning based on needs analysis can improve learning motivation, contextual language understanding, and learners’ readiness to meet academic and professional demands. Moreover, ESP encourages educators to design contextual and relevant instructional materials. The implications of this study emphasize that integrating ESP into educational curricula is crucial for improving the quality of English language learning and producing graduates with language competencies aligned with their professional needs.

Abstract

The marketing of illegal cigarettes is a growing phenomenon in Indonesia and poses serious impacts on state revenue, fair business competition, and public health protection. Illegal cigarettes are generally marketed without excise tax stamps or by using counterfeit excise stamps, both through conventional distribution channels and digital media. This article aims to analyze the legal framework governing the marketing of illegal cigarettes, the forms of marketing practices that occur in practice, and the effectiveness of law enforcement carried out by the competent authorities. The research method employed is normative legal research using statutory and conceptual approaches. The findings indicate that although the legal regulation of excise has been comprehensively and strictly stipulated, the marketing of illegal cigarettes remains widespread due to weak supervision, economic factors, and low public legal awareness. Therefore, strengthening law enforcement and enhancing inter-agency synergy are necessary to suppress the circulation of illegal cigarettes in Indonesia.

Abstract

The paradigm of 21st-century education emphasizes the importance of Higher-Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) as a fundamental foundation for addressing global challenges. This article analyzes the relationship between HOTS—encompassing analytical, critical, and creative thinking skills—and the deep learning curriculum concept that emphasizes joyful, mindful, and meaningful learning. The research method employs a literature review approach by examining scholarly articles published between 2024 and 2025 obtained from Google Scholar and nationally accredited reputable journals relevant to the development of HOTS within the context of the Merdeka Curriculum. The findings indicate that deep learning–based instruction is able to activate HOTS holistically: joyful learning stimulates creativity, mindful learning strengthens critical evaluation through metacognitive awareness, and meaningful learning facilitates in-depth analysis through contextual experiences. The integration of these three principles creates a humanistic and transformative learning ecosystem. This article affirms that a deep learning curriculum is not merely a pedagogical approach, but a strategic framework for improving the quality of national education based on 21st-century competencies.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of Project-Based Learning (PjBL) in English reading instruction for eleventh-grade students at SMA Negeri 3 Kota Bengkulu, focusing on instructional practices, student engagement, assessment, and contextual challenges. The study addresses the ongoing issue of teacher-centered reading instruction in EFL classrooms, which often limits students’ engagement and higher-order comprehension skills. A qualitative descriptive case study design was employed to obtain an in-depth understanding of the phenomenon. Data were collected through classroom observations, semi-structured interviews with two English teachers and selected eleventh-grade students, and document analysis of lesson plans, reading materials, student projects, and assessment instruments. The data were analyzed using thematic analysis following the interactive model of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that PjBL was implemented through structured stages, including contextual problem introduction, guided reading, collaborative discussion, project construction, and assessment. The approach enhanced students’ reading engagement, comprehension, and ability to synthesize textual information into meaningful products. Reading activities became more purposeful and contextualized, fostering collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking. However, challenges related to limited instructional time, variation in students’ reading proficiency, and the absence of comprehensive assessment rubrics were also identified. The study concludes that Project-Based Learning can effectively transform reading instruction into a student-centered and meaningful learning process when supported by careful instructional planning and appropriate assessment strategies. These findings contribute to EFL pedagogy by providing contextual insights into PjBL implementation and offer implications for teaching practice and future research in reading instruction

Abstract

This study aims to examine developments and empirical findings related to the influence of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) through a literature review. Data were obtained from 30 scientific journal published between 2021 and 2025 and collected through a systematic search using Google Scholar with the help of the Publish or Perish application. A literature review with descriptive analysis was conducted to identify research trends, the most frequently used variables, and patterns in previous empirical findings. The results indicate that most studies report ESG as having an influence on financial performance, firm performance, firm value, profitability, and earnings management. Specifically, 70% of the reviewed studies documented a significant effect of ESG, while 30% reported insignificant results. Financial performance emerged as the most frequently examined dependent variable, followed by firm performance and firm value. These findings suggest that ESG is increasingly viewed as a crucial factor in supporting business sustainability and enhancing investor confidence. Nevertheless, variations in empirical results indicate opportunities for future research to further explore contextual factors that may strengthen or weaken the influence of ESG.

Abstract

The selection of a study specialization is an important decision for students, as it influences the development of academic competencies and future career paths. However, the process of choosing a specialization is often conducted subjectively and does not systematically consider multiple criteria. This study aims to design and implement a Decision Support System (DSS) for selecting a study specialization using the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) method. The AHP method is applied to address multicriteria decision-making problems by constructing a hierarchical structure, performing pairwise comparisons among criteria, and determining the priority weights of each alternative. The criteria used in this study include academic performance, career prospects, and the quality of supporting lecturers. The results indicate that the application of the AHP method is able to provide objective and consistent recommendations for study specializations based on the highest priority values. Thus, the developed decision support system can assist students in determining the study specialization that best aligns with their abilities and interests.

The research employed a descriptive qualitative approach with data collected through questionnaires, interviews, and observations. A total of 21 respondents, consisting of teachers and the principal, participated in the study. Data analysis referred to Robbins and Judge’s (2019) theory of perception and Bernardin and Russell’s (2013) performance theory, covering five main aspects: quality of administrative services, discipline and attendance, communication and teamwork, use of information technology, and work effectiveness. The findings indicate that teachers’ and principals’ perceptions of TAS performance are generally in the good to very good category. The highest score was recorded in the quality of administrative services (average 3.51 or 87.75%), while the lowest was in the use of information technology (3.00 or 75%) and work effectiveness (3.01 or 75.25%). The most influential factors shaping positive perceptions are effective communication and teamwork, mastery of information technology, and overall work effectiveness in supporting school operations. In conclusion, TAS are perceived to perform their administrative duties well, showing discipline and professionalism. However, improvements are still needed in time discipline, digital technology utilization, and initiative in task completion. This research is expected to provide valuable insights for schools and policymakers in enhancing TAS performance to better meet the demands of school administration in the digital era.
