Abstract

Impulse buying among Generation Z consumers in e-commerce may be shaped by both external marketing stimuli and psychological factors; however, their combined relationships remain insufficiently understood. This study examined the relationships of influencer marketing, product quality, and discounts with impulse buying among Generation Z Shopee users and assessed the mediating role of Fear of Missing Out (FOMO). A quantitative survey design was employed. Data were collected through an online questionnaire from 250 purposively selected respondents aged 17–27 years who had experience using Shopee. The hypothesized relationships were analyzed using partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) in SmartPLS 4.1. The findings showed that product quality and discounts were positively and significantly associated with impulse buying, whereas influencer marketing had no significant direct association. Influencer marketing, product quality, and discounts were significantly associated with FOMO, which was also significantly associated with impulse buying. Nevertheless, none of the indirect relationships through FOMO was statistically significant. Thus, although FOMO represents a relevant psychological correlate of impulsive purchasing, it did not function as a transmission mechanism linking the examined marketing stimuli to impulse buying. These findings clarify the distinction between the direct role of FOMO and its unsupported mediating role in Generation Z’s online purchasing behavior. Practically, Shopee sellers and digital marketers should prioritize product quality and well-designed discount strategies rather than relying predominantly on influencer marketing or FOMO-based appeals.

Abstract

Salt hydrolysis instruction presents persistent challenges in promoting active participation and conceptual understanding among chemistry students. This study aimed to improve the learning activity and conceptual understanding of 26 Grade XI science students at SMA IT Al Fityah Pekanbaru through the ICARE learning model. A collaborative classroom action research design was implemented across two cycles, each comprising two meetings and the stages of planning, action, observation, and reflection. Data were collected through observation sheets assessing teacher and student activities, documentation, evaluations conducted after each meeting, and conceptual understanding tests administered at the end of each cycle. The data were analyzed descriptively using activity percentages, individual scores, class mastery rates, and achievement across seven indicators of conceptual understanding. The numbers of students who did not meet the mastery criterion and the lowest scores in each cycle were also examined to assess the distribution of learning outcomes. Instructional improvements emphasized participation, group discussion, reflection, and independent application of concepts. Student learning activity increased from 64.47% in Cycle I to 76.68% in Cycle II, representing an increase of 12.21 percentage points. The mean conceptual understanding score rose from 76.35 to 88.08, while the mean class score increased from 76.34 to 88.27. Class mastery improved from 69.22% to 88.46%. By Cycle II, all seven conceptual understanding indicators had reached at least 84.62%, with the ability to restate concepts reaching 100%. These findings demonstrate that ICARE can improve students’ engagement and conceptual understanding of salt hydrolysis. The model therefore offers a viable student-centered approach to chemistry instruction, provided that teachers ensure effective time management, reinforce prerequisite concepts, and distribute participation equitably.

Abstract

Pancasila Education requires active student engagement to promote conceptual understanding, cooperation, responsibility, and academic achievement in a balanced manner. However, classroom action research simultaneously examining learning activities and outcomes through Think-Pair-Share (TPS) among fifth-grade students remains limited. This study aimed to improve students’ learning activities and outcomes in Pancasila Education through the TPS cooperative learning model. Classroom action research was conducted across two cycles involving 26 purposively selected Grade VA students at SDN 01 Ulak Karang. Data were collected through classroom observations, non-test assessments, and learning achievement tests and analyzed using descriptive percentage analysis. The findings showed that students’ discussion activity increased from 45.51% in Cycle I to 78.69% in Cycle II, cooperation increased from 42.31% to 82.70%, and responsibility increased from 53.85% to 74.73%. The mean learning outcome score also increased progressively from 63.2 at the pre-action stage to 67.2 in Cycle I and 89.2 in Cycle II. These findings demonstrate that TPS can foster a more participatory and collaborative Pancasila Education classroom while improving students’ academic achievement. The study highlights the value of structured peer interaction, careful teacher facilitation, and reflective instructional improvement in implementing TPS. Further research should examine the sustainability of these improvements across broader school contexts and longer implementation periods.

Abstract

Adolescents require the ability to express attention, care, and appreciation appropriately to develop constructive peer relationships. However, educational resources that integrate the love language framework into adolescent peer interaction remain limited. This study aimed to develop a contextually relevant Love Language Module for adolescent interactions in Gunung Pangilun Urban Village. A research and development approach was implemented through needs analysis, product planning and development, expert validation, and product revision. The study involved 40 adolescents aged 13–18 years selected through total sampling. Data were collected using observations, interviews, and questionnaires and analyzed through descriptive quantitative techniques. The findings showed that 65.0% of the adolescents were classified in the appropriate category and 30.0% in the very appropriate category. Quality time emerged as an area requiring further reinforcement, particularly regarding attentive presence and meaningful togetherness. Expert validation yielded a score of 342 out of 360, equivalent to 95%, with an overall mean of 3.80, indicating that the module was highly feasible. These findings demonstrate that the developed module meets expert feasibility criteria and addresses adolescents’ identified interactional needs. The module provides a contextual educational and reflective resource for fostering more empathetic, supportive, and meaningful peer interactions among adolescents.

Abstract

Teacher–student interaction in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) classrooms entails not only the delivery of instructional content but also the strategic use of politeness to facilitate effective communication and sustain interpersonal relationships. This study aimed to identify and analyze the politeness strategies employed by an English teacher during classroom interactions at MTSS Al-Falah. Using a descriptive qualitative design, the study involved one English teacher and Grade IX-1 students. Data were collected through classroom observations, video recordings, and field notes and analyzed using Brown and Levinson’s politeness framework, with the interactional context examined through Hymes’ SPEAKING model. The analysis identified 21 teacher utterances containing politeness strategies: 17 instances of bald-on-record, three of positive politeness, and one of negative politeness; no off-record strategy was observed. The predominance of bald-on-record strategies indicates that the teacher prioritized directness to ensure instructional clarity and facilitate classroom management. These findings demonstrate that teachers’ politeness strategies constitute context-dependent pragmatic choices shaped by instructional purposes and classroom conditions. The study contributes to EFL classroom pragmatics by highlighting the importance of strengthening teachers’ pragmatic awareness and their capacity to adapt communication strategies to specific pedagogical and interactional contexts.

Abstract

Oral reading of unvowelized Arabic texts (qirāʾah jahriyyah / قراءة جهرية) requires the real-time integration of syntactic and morphological knowledge. Although previous research has documented general grammatical difficulties in second-language Arabic, the cognitive-processing mechanisms underlying breakdowns during live text vocalization remain underexplored. This qualitative case study employed Error Analysis to examine transcribed oral-reading performances on the diagnostic text Naṣāʾiḥ al-Ab wa Ijtihād al-Ibn among four focal participants in the Program Iman Specialization (Al-Program Al-Takhassusi) at STAI Ali Bin Abi Thalib Surabaya. The findings showed that grammatical errors clustered systematically around inflectional case assignment (iʿrāb / إعراب), construct-state formation (iḍāfah / إضافة), and complement realization (mafāʿīl / مفاعيل). The analysis further identified a Nominative Default Bias (Marfūʿāt Default / الانحياز الافتراضي للمرفوعات), whereby learners tended to produce nominative forms under cognitive overload, as well as a Declarative–Procedural Gap, in which their demonstrated mastery of grammatical rules in isolated ʿilm al-naḥw (علم النحو) exercises did not transfer to continuous oral reading. These findings indicate that oral-reading deviations arise primarily from real-time syntactic-processing bottlenecks rather than underlying grammatical-competence deficits. The study contributes to second-language Arabic acquisition research by distinguishing online processing failure from declarative grammatical knowledge and highlights the need to reorient Arabic instruction from static rule memorization toward speeded sentence-parsing exercises and targeted oral corrective feedback.

Abstract

Coastal fishing operations are vulnerable to rapidly changing weather conditions, yet locally resolved rainfall observations are often insufficient to support timely operational decisions. This study evaluates the performance of an Internet of Things (IoT)-based rainfall measurement and warning system developed to support coastal extreme-weather mitigation in Padang. An engineering and experimental approach was employed to develop a prototype integrating a tipping bucket rain gauge (TBRG), ESP32 microcontroller, RTC DS3231 module, 20 × 4 LCD, local buzzer, Blynk IoT platform, and Telegram Bot. System performance was evaluated through comparisons with reference measurements to determine accuracy, repeated controlled-input tests to assess precision, and threshold-response tests to verify the warning function. The TBRG achieved an average measurement accuracy of 98.18%, with a mean relative error of 1.82%. Ten repeated measurements under controlled input yielded a precision of 95.789%. The warning subsystem responded correctly under all tested threshold conditions, producing a functional response rate of 100%. These findings demonstrate the prototype’s capacity to measure localized rainfall quantitatively and translate the observations into local and remote warning signals. The study provides empirical evidence supporting the integration of rainfall instrumentation, microcontroller-based processing, and IoT communication for localized coastal monitoring. Further development should prioritize dynamic calibration across varying rainfall intensities, autonomous power supply, and resilient communication mechanisms.

Abstract

Baitul Maal wat Tamwil (BMTs) in Indonesia continue to face internal and external challenges that underscore the need for effective internal control systems. Although previous research has examined the effectiveness and contribution of internal control systems, evidence regarding the internal and external factors driving their implementation in BMTs remains limited. Drawing on institutional theory, this study analyzes the effects of management commitment, environmental uncertainty, and external pressure on internal control system implementation. A quantitative explanatory survey was conducted involving 95 managers of BMTs affiliated with PUSKOPSYAH D.I. Yogyakarta. Data were collected using a four-point Likert-scale questionnaire administered through the control self-assessment method and analyzed using partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM). The findings demonstrate that management commitment, environmental uncertainty, and external pressure have positive and significant effects on internal control system implementation. Management commitment exerts the strongest effect (β = 0.425), followed by environmental uncertainty (β = 0.296) and external pressure (β = 0.224), while the model explains 41.2% of the variance in internal control system implementation. These findings highlight the central role of managerial commitment and demonstrate that BMTs adapt their internal controls in response to environmental uncertainty and external pressures. This study extends the application of institutional theory to Islamic microfinance by providing empirical evidence on the internal and external determinants of internal control system implementation in BMTs. Further research should broaden the geographical scope, employ longitudinal designs, and examine additional determinants, including human resource competence, organizational culture, information technology, and supervisory effectiveness.

Abstract

Although the Waqf Core Principles (WCP) have gained recognition as a framework for strengthening waqf governance, empirical evidence on the determinants of nazir knowledge of these principles remains limited, particularly regarding organisational trust and professional competence. This study examines the influence of organisational trust and nazir competence on WCP knowledge among waqf nazirs in Serang City, Banten, Indonesia. A quantitative research design was employed, involving 72 waqf nazirs selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire and analysed through multiple linear regression in SPSS, following validity and reliability assessments and classical assumption tests. Partial significance tests, a simultaneous F-test, and coefficient of determination analysis were also conducted. The findings demonstrate that organisational trust has a positive and significant effect on WCP knowledge. Nazir competence also exerts a positive and significant effect and makes a greater contribution than organisational trust. Collectively, both factors significantly explain variations in WCP knowledge. This study extends the literature on waqf governance by demonstrating the strategic importance of institutional trust and professional competence in strengthening nazir capabilities. The findings underscore the need for systematic competency development and trust-based governance practices to facilitate the effective implementation of the WCP.

Abstract

Gender empowerment remains a multidimensional development challenge in West Sumatra, where regional disparities reflect interconnected educational, economic, political, health, demographic, and infrastructural factors. This study aims to model the Gender Empowerment Index (GEI) across 19 regencies and municipalities in West Sumatra in 2024, identify its relevant determinants, and determine the dominant predictor using Group LASSO. A quantitative research design was employed using secondary data from Statistics Indonesia, comprising 22 predictors classified into six dimensions. All 19 regions were included through census sampling. The data were standardised, assessed for multicollinearity, and analysed using Group LASSO, with K-fold cross-validation applied to determine the optimal penalty parameter. The optimal λ value of 0.2392388 retained 14 predictors and produced a mean squared error of 1.190105 and an R² of 0.985264. The proportion of women serving in Regional People’s Representative Councils emerged as the dominant predictor, with the largest coefficient of 0.892008. These findings demonstrate the utility of Group LASSO for selecting relevant predictors in a multidimensional regional dataset and provide empirical evidence for establishing gender-empowerment policy priorities. The results particularly underscore the importance of women’s political representation in efforts to strengthen gender empowerment across West Sumatra.
