Abstract

Law Number 5 of 2014 regulates the management of Civil Servants (Aparatur Sipil Negara/ASN), with the principle of professionalism serving as one of the foundations of public service effectiveness. Professionalism is defined as the reliability in task execution, ensuring high-quality performance that is timely, precise, and appropriate for the public. In simpler terms, professionalism is the behaviour, methods, and qualities that characterize a profession. Data shows that the effectiveness of the Indonesian government, including the professionalism of its civil servants, still needs improvement. According to the National Civil Service Agency (Badan Kepegawaian Negara/BKN), the measurement of the ASN Professionalism Index (Indeks profesionalitas Aparatur Sipil Negara/IPASN) is based on four dimensions: educational qualifications, competencies, performance, and discipline. Nationally, the IPASN score remains in the low-to-medium range. As a government institution, the Center for Drug and Food Control in Semarang (Balai Besar Pengawas Obat dan Makanan/BBPOM in Semarang) has a strong interest in improving its organizational IPASN score. This study uses a qualitative approach to examine BBPOM in Semarang's success in enhancing its IPASN score by empowering civil servants in the areas of educational qualifications, competencies, performance, and discipline. The success of BBPOM in Semarang can serve as a practical reference for empowering civil servants to improve their IPASN.

Abstract

Empowering the regional economy through the development of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) plays a vital role in fostering inclusive and sustainable economic growth at the local level. This research investigates the success and challenges faced by MSMEs in Thamrin City, focusing on strategies to enhance their development and contribute to local economic empowerment. Employing a descriptive approach, the study analyzes employment trends within MSMEs from 2019 to 2023, complemented by interviews with MSME owners and key stakeholders. The findings reveal that while MSMEs in Thamrin City face significant challenges such as limited access to funding, restricted market reach, and resistance to innovation, these hurdles can be addressed through strategic initiatives. Strong human resource (HR) capabilities, coupled with effective marketing strategies, are identified as critical factors in enabling small businesses to overcome these barriers and achieve sustainable growth. The study contributes to a deeper understanding of the pivotal role that MSMEs play in supporting regional economic development. It highlights the necessity of targeted empowerment policies and initiatives to facilitate the expansion of small businesses, which, in turn, enhances community well-being. By focusing on capacity-building and market development, stakeholders can create an environment that fosters the resilience and competitiveness of MSMEs. This research underscores the need for collaborative efforts between governments, financial institutions, and local communities to unlock the full potential of MSMEs as drivers of economic progress and social inclusion.

Abstract

Research by McKinsey and the NYU Stern Centre for Sustainable Business indicates that robust ESG indicators are associated with enhanced returns and less negative risk. In Indonesia, firms possess a poor comprehension of the impact that integrating Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) measures into corporate strategy has on long-term value generation, resilience, and profitability. This study seeks to delineate the role of ESG in enhancing financial performance and sustainable growth within Indonesian firms. Researchers utilize purposive sampling to identify organizations that have consistently disclosed sustainability metrics in accordance with Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) requirements for a duration of five years. The population comprised 938 publicly listed companies on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX), with 38 selected enterprises that consistently reported. This research does a comprehensive panel regression analysis using financial data sourced from the Bloomberg Terminal. The study reveals a complex relationship between Environmental, Social, and Governance disclosures and corporate financial success, particularly in emerging markets like Indonesia. It suggests that while firms prioritize governance transparency, its impact on financial performance may be temporary, affecting short-term profitability. Environmental and social disclosures, while positively connected with ROA, necessitate additional time or continuous application to yield financial benefits. The study emphasizes the imperative for a balanced and sustainable approach to Environmental, Social, and Governance integration in resource-constrained environments.

Abstract

This study examines the impact of digital banking on the financial decision-making processes of millennials, addressing key challenges and opportunities. Through a mixed-methods approach, including surveys and interviews, we explore how accessibility, financial literacy, and behavioural patterns are shaped by digital banking tools. Our findings reveal that digital banking significantly enhances financial engagement among millennials, leading to more informed decisions and improved financial literacy through integrated educational resources. However, it also highlights a tendency toward impulsive spending and a lack of understanding of complex financial products. These dual influences underscore the need for financial institutions to develop user-friendly platforms that promote responsible financial behaviours. This research contributes to the understanding of how digital banking can be leveraged to support effective financial decision-making in a tech-savvy generation.
