Abstract

Ngrayun Subdistrict, Ponorogo Regency is an area with a high level of landslide vulnerability due to hilly topography, high rainfall, and uncontrolled land use changes. This study aims to map landslide vulnerability levels, identify dominant factors causing landslides, and formulate disaster mitigation strategies in Ngrayun Subdistrict. The method used is spatial analysis based on Geographic Information System (GIS) with overlay techniques on four parameters: rainfall, slope gradient, soil type, and land use, which have been scored based on vulnerability levels. Primary data were obtained through field observations, while secondary data were sourced from relevant agencies and scientific literature. The results show that landslide vulnerability levels in Ngrayun Subdistrict are divided into three classes: less vulnerable (7,997.49 ha), vulnerable (9,200.47 ha), and highly vulnerable (38.41 ha), with the vulnerable class dominating the research area. The dominant factor causing landslides is high rainfall (>2,500 mm/year) with a percentage of 30.77%. Recommended mitigation strategies include structural mitigation such as protective infrastructure development, reforestation, and installation of landslide detection devices, as well as non-structural mitigation including disaster preparedness training and provision of temporary shelters in landslide-prone areas.

Abstract

The problem of limited electrical energy in various rural areas. The dominant use of fossil fuels also has a negative impact on the environment, including in Ranah Pesisir District, Pesisir Selatan Regency. Micro Hydro Power Plants (MHP) are seen as an environmentally friendly renewable energy solution with the potential to improve community welfare. This study aims to analyze the contribution of Micro Hydro Power Plants (MHP) to achieving the SDGs goals and analyze local community responses to their existence. The method used is a qualitative approach with a case study. Qualitative data obtained through interviews, surveys, and literature reviews are then analyzed descriptively to assess the relationship between MHP development and SDGs goal indicators. The results show that MHP has a positive impact on increasing access to electrical energy, creating jobs, and encouraging community economic activities. MHP also contributes to equitable energy access, increasing productivity, and reducing dependence on fossil fuels. However, MHP development poses ecological challenges, such as changes in river flow and potential disruption to local ecosystems.

Abstract

Health is a basic human right, but access to health services in Bekasi City still experiences inequality based on socio-economic and geographical factors. This study analyzes inequality in access to health services in Bekasi City based on the distribution of hospitals, population density, and transportation infrastructure. Using a descriptive qualitative method with GIS spatial analysis, this study found that although the number of hospitals is quite large, their distribution is uneven, especially in sub-districts with high population density such as Jatisampurna and Bantargebang, and limited access to public transportation in some areas. These results suggest that there is a need to improve the distribution of health facilities and transportation infrastructure to increase access to health services in Bekasi City

Abstract

North Africa relies heavily on wheat imports due to limited domestic production influenced by arid climates, scarce arable land, and rapid population growth. The 2022 Black Sea blockade, which disrupted Ukrainian wheat exports, severely affected global supply chains. More than 20 million tons of wheat were trapped in ports, triggering a surge in international food prices. This situation heightened socioeconomic vulnerability in major importing countries such as Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Morocco, and Algeria. This study applies a systematic literature review, drawing on scholarly articles, international reports, and official data from FAOStat and UN Comtrade. The analysis focuses on wheat import dependency, the blockade’s impact on food prices and access, and mitigation strategies adopted by governments. Findings reveal that countries with high dependency and limited fiscal capacity, such as Egypt and Libya, are more exposed to food crises compared to Algeria and Tunisia. Mitigation strategies include supplier diversification, strengthening strategic reserves, food subsidies, and investment in agricultural technology. The study recommends enhancing regional cooperation, reforming subsidy policies for better targeting, and boosting domestic production through technological innovation as long-term measures to strengthen food security.

Abstract

Indonesia is one of the countries most vulnerable to tectonic earthquakes and tsunamis, particularly in West Sumatra Province. North Pagai District in the Mentawai Islands is considered a high-risk area due to its proximity to the Mentawai Megathrust zone and active tectonic plate movements. Earthquakes and tsunamis not only cause loss of life and physical destruction but also disrupt social activities and leave long-term psychological impacts on affected communities. This study aims to examine community-based disaster mitigation through local wisdom in reducing the risks and impacts of earthquakes and tsunamis in North Pagai District, Mentawai Islands. The study employed a mixed-methods approach involving three villages with a total population of 1,094 households, from which 91 households were selected as research samples. Data were analyzed using descriptive and interactive analysis techniques. The findings reveal that, first, the impacts of earthquakes and tsunamis in North Pagai District are extensive and significant, with a “very high” impact level (75%), indicating that the consequences extend beyond material losses and require serious attention to ecological and psychological recovery. Second, the disaster has severely affected the socio-economic sector, resulting in substantial financial losses with a “high” impact level (82%). Third, local wisdom practices, including the Arat Sabulungan tradition, Uma, and Punen rituals, have proven to be highly effective in helping communities cope with the severe impacts of earthquakes and tsunamis. Fourth, the community has demonstrated strong responsiveness and adaptive capacity in dealing with earthquake and tsunami hazards. These findings highlight the important role of local wisdom as a community-based disaster mitigation strategy that strengthens resilience and supports sustainable disaster risk reduction in disaster-prone areas.

Abstract

Aceh Tamiang Regency is an area with a high level of flood hazard, experiencing major flood events in 1996, 2006, 2018, 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023, which have caused substantial impacts on social, economic, and infrastructure sectors. The increasing frequency and intensity of these flood events have prompted this study to analyze community knowledge, evaluate preparedness actions undertaken by local communities, and formulate an appropriate preparedness model for flood disaster risk reduction. This study employed a qualitative approach through focus group discussions with key informants, data triangulation, field observations, and analysis of relevant documents. Data were analyzed through the stages of data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that Rantau Pakam Village demonstrates stronger preparedness knowledge and practices than Teluk Kepayang Village. This advantage is attributed to the availability of a more effective early warning system, contingency planning documents, a disaster-resilient village team, preparedness facilities, and experience in conducting disaster simulations involving vulnerable groups. In contrast, although Teluk Kepayang Village has preparedness facilities and participates in the sister village mechanism, it lacks a structured preparedness management system. The study concludes that community preparedness is strongly influenced by institutional support, the quality of program interventions, and inter-village collaboration, which collectively enhance disaster risk reduction knowledge and practices. An integrated preparedness model combining anticipatory actions and the sister village mechanism is recommended as an effective approach for addressing flood hazards in disaster-prone areas such as Bendahara District.

Abstract

Nature-based tourism plays an important role in supporting regional economic growth, yet its management requires comprehensive spatial data–driven planning. This study analyzes the potential and development strategies of tourist attractions in Kudus Regency, Central Java, by combining spatial assessment methods and SWOT analysis. Data were collected through field observations, semi-structured interviews, open-ended questionnaires, and a review of planning documents. The assessment method was used to evaluate the attractiveness, accessibility, facilities, and community support of seven major tourist sites, which were then mapped spatially. The findings show that Rahtawu, Kali Banteng Waterfall, and Seribu Batu Semliro possess very high potential, whereas Hidden Canyon Rahtawu demonstrates very low potential. The SWOT analysis recommends development strategies based on tourism corridors, infrastructure improvement, digital promotion, and environmental conservation. These findings highlight the need for an integrated approach involving the government, community, and private sector to enhance destination competitiveness, extend tourist stays, and achieve sustainable tourism in Kudus Regency.
