Abstract

The phenomenon of environmental degradation in Satui Barat Village is closely linked to the exploitation of natural resources that prioritizes greater profits without considering ecological sustainability. This study aims to examine the manifestation of anthropocentrism in the management of natural resources in Satui Barat Village. The research employs a qualitative approach with a case study methodology. Data collection techniques include observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings indicate that the mindset of the Satui Barat community regarding natural resource management has been influenced by five characteristics of anthropocentrism. Anthropocentrism is a perspective that places humans at the center of everything, prioritizing human interests over environmental concerns. In the context of Satui Barat Village, economic activities, urbanization, and climate change also contribute to the well-being of the local community. Ideally, efforts to sustain human life should be balanced with sustainable environmental management, taking into account the long-term interests of both humans and nature. Anthropocentrism represents an ethical stance that neglects ecological balance and the sustainability of natural resources. In Satui Barat Village, mining activities have caused detrimental social impacts, such as forced evictions, land conflicts, and a decline in the quality of life for the local population. The current situation calls for changes in the governance of natural resources, placing greater emphasis on ecological sustainability to ensure a better and more sustainable quality of life. Coordinated efforts between the government, the mining industry, and local communities are essential to developing sustainable solutions that address the needs of all stakeholders, including environmental conservation. All sustainability efforts must be supported by a paradigm shift as a foundation, prioritizing environmental ethics that uphold quality and fairness for the entire ecosystem network.

Abstract

Children who should be focusing on their education often neglect their obligations by skipping school to play and beg around Kubah Basirih. This research aims to explore the self-concept of child beggars in the Religious Tourism of Kubah Basirih, Banjarmasin, using phenomenological approach and George Herbert Mead's symbolic interactionism theory. This qualitative study involves data collection through observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation from seven child beggar informants. The research process includes data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. Findings indicate that driving factors for children begging include personal desire for money, peer influence, and parental requests. Begging activities help them develop communication skills, observational skills, and understanding of verbal and non-verbal symbols. Social interactions with visitors shape their self-perception, often at the expense of formal education. The study also reveals that child beggars at Kubah Basirih prioritize playing and socializing with peers over simply earning money from begging. They enjoy companionship and support from peers, fulfilling their desire as children to experience happiness. Consequently, this often leads them to neglect formal education, which should be their primary focus. These findings underscore the importance of understanding how self-concept forms not only from subjective experiences but also through self-reflection and interaction with the environment.

Abstract

The extinction of regional languages as a form of customs and identity of a region caused by the arrival of more dominant immigrant languages, is now a problem that occurs in Indonesia as a culturally rich country, one of the regional languages which is currently experiencing a crisis of young generation speakers in its own region is the Dayak Ngaju language as the traditional language of the people of Central Kalimantan. This research aims to examine the process of Banjar language dominance among Dayak Ngaju children in Pulau Telo village, Kapuas Regency, Central Kalimantan Province. The approach used is a qualitative approach with a case study type of research. Data collection was carried out through unstructured observation, in-depth interviews and documentation. Data analysis uses the model from Miles and Huberman. The results of the research found that the majority of children in Pulau Telo Village communicate more using Banjar language compared to Dayak language in every interaction in their activities. The process of dominating the Banjar language can occur because it goes through several processes, starting with the dominance of the Banjar language which first occurred in Kuala Kapuas City as the Regency Capital until it had an impact on the people of Pulau Telo Village, especially on children who were in the middle phase. childhood is a more empirical attitude towards the outside world. This domination process is then carried out by the role of social agents in the children's environment, namely parents, teachers, peers, mass media, socialization agents in the market. These five social agents have a big influence in forming the habits of Telo Island village children in implementing the culture of speaking, Therefore, it is very important to teach children as the younger generation to continue using Dayak language only as a form of preserving the regional language.

Abstract

The environmental sustainability of Banjarmasin City as a whole is a responsibility that requires essential action by the Banjarmasin City Environmental Agency (DLH) through its programs. This research aims to: (1) Knowing the programs run by the Banjarmasin City Environmental Agency in environmental management. (2) Analyzing ecological thinking in environmental management programs by the Banjarmasin City Environmental Agency. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study research type. Data collection techniques were carried out by direct observation, semi-structured interviews and documentation. This research shows that the programs of DLH Banjarmasin City actually do not have ecological thinking that includes the harmony of three important aspects in achieving appropriate development goals, namely ecological, economic, and social dimensions. The programs implemented do not substantially reflect holistic and sustainable ecological principles. The conclusion of the research is that the programs initiated by DLH Banjarmasin City tend to erode the values of natural science and sustainable development. In practice, the actions taken focus on aspects of economic development and short-term practical needs without considering the components of a sustainable ecosystem. As a result, despite efforts to improve the quality of the environment, the manifestation of solutions to environmental problems actually creates new environmental problems, such as the problem of traffic order in the surung sintak program due to the accumulation of garbage in TPS located on the edge of major roads, depriving part of the road to cause congestion, accidents, and disruption of community social activities. DLH can initiate training and continuing education programs for DLH Banjarmasin functionaries on ecology, conservation, and environmental sustainability concepts.

Abstract

The REDD+ programme aims to curb deforestation, with Berau Regency as one of the target areas with a commitment to implement the programme until 2030. The purpose of this research is to examine the environmental movement approach applied to the REDD+ programme and its impact on the sustainability of local livelihoods in Berau Regency. This research focuses on the REDD+ programme implemented by non-government organisations (NGOs), namely YKAN, PERISAI, Forclime, and SRP Payo-Payo. This research uses a qualitative method with a case study research approach. Data collection techniques used candid observation, semi-structured interviews and documentation. Data was analysed using an interactive model. The results show that the approach applied to the implementation of REDD+ programmes by non-government organisations (NGOs) in Berau Regency is a participatory approach, where the community acts as the main actor in every programme implementation. This approach is supported by the paradigm of the eco-populism environmental movement, which pays attention to aspects of local knowledge and the sources of life of local communities. The presence of the REDD+ programme does not disrupt livelihoods and does not change the culture of local communities, or integrate the objectives of the REDD+ programme with aspects that already exist in the community. The implication is that with the REDD+ programme, the community gets additional sources of livelihood without reducing the existing sources of livelihood that have been carried out for generations. Furthermore, the REDD+ programme is able to stimulate the community to abandon unsustainable practices. The REDD+ programme in Berau Regency should continue to be implemented by making local communities the main actors and adhering to local wisdom that exists in the community.

Abstract

Since the rampant gold mining has had an impact on the ecosystem and social functions of rivers, this has become the initial cause of the rift between humans and the river environment. This research aims to describe the form of rift between humans and the river environment in the Kurun District, Gunung Mas Regency. This research uses a qualitative approach with a phenomenological type of research. Data collection techniques use disguised and participatory observation, as well as semi-structured interviews and documentation. This research shows that in the past, the relationship between society and the river environment went well. Now this relationship is experiencing a rift due to massive gold mining. This causes degradation of the river ecosystem, and the river does not function properly. The research concludes that the development of the times has made technology a means of production in exploiting nature. This is what gives rise to the pragmatic nature of humans, which is to enrich themselves beyond the necessities of life. So humans have a strong capitalist character in viewing the river environment as an economic resource. Currently, nature has been exploited, showing degraded physical conditions. This has an impact on the value of the river's social function, decreasing, as well as bringing about a disaster phenomenon as a response from nature to humans or humans being exploited by nature. Humans need to change the mindset that is still accumulative regarding the use of nature (rivers), namely by getting guidance in gold mining management from the government so that they have insight into a sustainable environment.

Abstract

The social construction within society reflects issues of gender-based discrimination, one of which is the unequal treatment of men and women in the field of education. This study aims to explore the urgency of higher education from women's perspectives and to understand the social construction of rural communities regarding higher education for women. The research was conducted in Anjir Pasar Lama Village, Barito Kuala Regency. A qualitative method with a case study approach was employed. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis followed the interactive model of Miles and Huberman. The findings reveal that in Anjir Pasar Lama Village, there are two prevailing perspectives on higher education for women: some members of the community believe that higher education is very important for women, while others consider it less important. Factors contributing to the low level of higher education among women in the village include early marriage, economic conditions, and a lack of awareness about the importance of higher education for women. The most dominant factor is early marriage. The social construction within the community is shaped by three dialectical processes: internalization, objectivation, and externalization. In this context, gender discrimination in Anjir Pasar Lama Village includes the marginalization of women in education, subordination of women, gender stereotypes, and violence. However, the concept of a double burden is not found, as women are primarily confined to domestic roles.
