Abstract

Theoretically, ecotourism development is an effective means of realizing sustainable development. This research aims to analyze efforts to develop ecotourism at Matang Kaladan Hill in Tiwingan Lama Village, Banjar Regency. using the perspective of sustainable development theory (Burger). The research approach used is qualitative, and is a case study type of research. Data collection was carried out through participant observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model. The research results show that the development of Bukit Matang Kaladan ecotourism has manifested several principles of sustainable development. First, ecological protection in the form of: 1) nature conservation programs; 2) prohibition on cutting down trees in conservation forest areas; 3) prohibition of littering. Second, social development in the form of: 1) growing tourism awareness among local communities based on the 7 (seven) sapta charm values; 2) increasing the level of public education. Third, economic development can be seen in: 1) the existence of original village income originating from ecotourism; 2) increasing employment opportunities for the community. However, the development of Bukit Matang Kaladan ecotourism cannot be said to have implemented the principles of sustainable development optimally and comprehensively. One of them is the principle of sustainable development, the point of ecological sustainability, which can be seen in the local community of Tiwingan Lama Village and tourists who do not keep the environment clean properly. The behavior of littering causes large amounts of plastic waste to be scattered in the Bukit Matang Kaladan ecotourism area. Therefore, it is hoped that the village government will continue to make efforts related to optimal ecological sustainability in the field of plastic waste management.

Abstract

The Martapura River plays a vital role as a source of life for the community, especially for women, whose almost entire daily activities are related to the river, such as washing, bathing, and earning a livelihood. This study aims to examine the correlation between ecosophy knowledge and women's behavior in managing and utilizing the river. This study uses a quantitative survey method, conducted in Sungai Rangas Tengah Village, Banjar Regency. The study population consisted of women aged 20 to 80 years who have lived in Sungai Rangas Tengah Village, Banjar Regency for more than 10 years. The research respondents were 50 women randomly selected using a purposive sampling technique. The data analysis techniques used include descriptive, simple regression, and correlation. The results of the study show that a deep understanding of ecosophy is positively and significantly correlated with women's behavior towards the river. The higher the understanding of ecosophy among women, the higher the level of responsive behavior towards the river. The contribution of ecosophy to women's behavior towards the river is 49%, while the remaining 51% is influenced by other factors beyond ecosophy understanding. However, there is still a noticeable gap between conceptual understanding and daily practice. Although the majority of respondents are aware of the dangers and negative impacts of dumping waste into the river, technical constraints such as the lack of waste management facilities and inadequate waste disposal systems hinder the implementation of ecosophy ethics in daily life. It is crucial to have continuous efforts from related parties to enhance women's understanding of ecosophy, whether through education, training, or empowerment, as a crucial aspect in promoting environmentally friendly practices, especially in river environments.

Abstract

The beauty industry is experiencing significant growth, leading to the potential for substantial environmental impact. Thus, changes in human behavior are key to addressing the environmental crisis. This research aims to determine the correlation between ecofeminism knowledge and consumer involvement in the Sociolla sustainable beauty movement in Banjarmasin. There are two hypotheses in this study: Hypothesis (1) Beauty product consumers understand ecofeminism ethics. Hypothesis (2) There is a relationship between ecofeminism ethics and the Sustainable Beauty Movement. This study uses a quantitative method with purposive sampling, involving 50 respondents. Data were collected using the ecofeminism ethics scale (consisting of 13 valid items, with α = 0.952) and the sustainable beauty movement scale (consisting of 14 valid items, with α = 0.865). The data analysis techniques employed include descriptive statistics, simple regression, and correlation. The results show a positive and moderately strong relationship between ecofeminism ethics and the sustainable beauty movement (r = 0.502). The more consumers understand ecofeminism ethics, the stronger their behavior supports environmental sustainability. The contribution of ecofeminism ethics to the sustainable beauty movement is 36.2%, with the remainder contributed by other factors. The conclusion of this study is that the first hypothesis (H₁) stating that women have an understanding of ecofeminism is accepted. Furthermore, the second hypothesis (H₂) stating that there is a relationship between ecofeminism ethics and the sustainable beauty movement, including the use of recycle stations among beauty product consumers, is accepted. Continuous use of beauty products by consumers can increase waste from used beauty products. Recycle stations aim to reduce environmental impact, and it is hoped that consumers who have not yet participated will join in realizing environmental sustainability, especially in the beauty industry.

Abstract

Manogo fishermen are a source of livelihood for the majority of the people of Bakambat Village, who are currently facing various complexities, such as environmental factors and others. This research aims to look at the adaptation patterns made by manogo fishermen from the problems they face, both at sea and on land. This research uses a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. The data collection techniques used were observation, interviews and documentation. Data analysis was carried out through data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. This research uses adaptation theory from John William Bennett. The results of the research show that manogo fishermen in Bakambat Village face various problems which include environmental factors, the use of illegal fishing gear by other fishermen, coal barges passing through the fishing areas of manogo fishermen, as well as regulations related to illegal logging. The problems faced have a huge impact on the economy of manogo fishermen, as well as threatening the local knowledge and wisdom of the people in Bakambat Village about manogo. The various problems faced gave rise to adaptation patterns that were implemented, such as moving fishing locations, installing several nets, moving fishing locations, variations in processed products, seeking compensation costs from coal barges, and the emergence of resistance. The adaptation pattern implemented is nothing more than a way for the livelihood of manogo fishermen to continue to survive, as well as how local knowledge and wisdom of manogo continues to exist for generations to come. It is hoped that the adaptation patterns implemented by manogo fishermen will continue to develop, such as the use of fishing gear to the processing process and continue to maintain Manogo as an identity even though big problems lie ahead.

Abstract

The entry of women into online games that are dominated by men creates a new case where women become victims of discrimination using sexist language. This research was conducted in the Miaw Ladies community group, which is a community specifically for women in the mobile game Legends Bang Bang. This research aims to find out and provide an overview of the sexist language that is often encountered by female players in the mobile game Legends Bang Bang and wants to know how patriarchal structures are maintained through sexist language in the game. This research uses qualitative research with a Feminist Method approach. The results of the research found that there were two types of sexist language experienced by female players, namely sexist language which leads to obscenity and derogatory sexist language. Obscene sexist language found in the mobile game Legends Bang Bang equates women with sex workers, equates women with vaginas, and even insults players' parents by calling them sluts. Sexist language demeans the majority of female players as being stupid in the field of online gaming, deeming women inappropriate to play online games, and belittling women's abilities in the field of online gaming. The results found are in accordance with Luce Irigaray's opinion that language is a tool used to maintain patriarchy in society by insulting and belittling women and feeling superior in the field of gaming. Mobile Legends: Bang Bang game players should be more respectful and appreciative of fellow players without discriminating against any gender.

Abstract

The emergence of men as cosplayers changes society's view of the role of men who are considered to always be dominant. The purpose of this study is to find out and describe the behaviour represented by men, especially for Japanese anime cosplayers and to find out how society treats the behaviour shown. This research uses a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach. While data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and documentation. The data analysis technique uses data reduction steps, data presentation and conclusion drawing. This research uses Lamert's labelling theory and Derrida's social deconstruction. The results showed that there is labelling given by society to cosplayers. In addition, there is a change in meaning in the social view that has been formed, which has turned into a new understanding. Male cosplayers acknowledge that crossdressing is a way for them to channel their hobbies and express themselves in the midst of a society that always demands men to have a masculine spirit. However, society still cannot fully accept the existence of men who behave and look like women, because they see restrictions on the values and norms that apply in society. Labelling includes wibu smelly onions and introverts, men who cosplay strangely, sissies and bencong, perverts to fanservice and are part of the LGBT who are considered sexual criminals. The social deconstruction obtained is that not all masculine is always associated with body shape and behaviour, but rather the purpose and how they behave in the surrounding environment.

Abstract

The agrarian conflict case that occurred in Rempang Island attracted the attention of the mass media in covering the actual reality. This research aims to examine the framing done by Batamtimes.co and Batamnews.co online media on the agrarian conflict in Rempang Island, published in the period of June - December 2023. The type of research used is descriptive qualitative, with Robert N. Entman's framing analysis model which includes 4 elements of analysis, namely define problems, diagnose causes, make moral judgement, and treatment recommendation. This research also uses the perspective of Berger and Luckman's social construction theory. The results showed that Batamtimes.co and Batamnews.co online media framed the agrarian conflict case by leaning towards the role of the government as a policy maker and emphasising the positive impact of investment projects on the regional economy and society. The construction process by both media is shown by supporting the Rempang Eco City project. This can be seen from how both online media show repeated emphasis that focuses on the development of the Rempang Eco City Project compared to the ongoing conflict. Online media in reporting an event, behind it has a certain purpose with various aspects that are highlighted to be understood by readers. Thus, the result of reality that has been processed by the media can be favourable to one party and detrimental to the other. Therefore, it is important for readers to use other sources in accessing information to get a different perspective.

Abstract

In maintaining their existence, K-Pop groups not only compete through their music but also merchandise that supports the promotion of the music they release.  This research aims to understand how rewards, stimulus and positive experiences from purchasing K-Pop merchandise can lead to repeat purchases. In addition, how individuals use social media as a tool to fulfill needs and get satisfaction rewards. Feeling satisfied because they have received rewards and achieved their needs, causes repeated merchandise purchasing behavior. So that it contributes to the formation of consumptive behavior of students seen from the perspective of behavioral exchange theory and Use and Gratification theory. This type of research uses qualitative research with a qualitative descriptive approach method, data collection techniques with observation, interviews, and documentation. The research informants were obtained by purposive sampling technique totaling 10 students who are fans of the NCT group at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences. The results showed that the purchase of NCT merchandise was driven by several factors, including positive rewards (pleasure and satisfaction), emotional value in merchandise, as entertainment, self-reward, and external stimuli such as the influence of unboxing content or advertising. However, the research also found that the pleasant experience and satisfaction gained from purchasing NCT merchandise, has the potential to encourage consumptive behavior. Especially in terms of excessive financial spending and merchandise purchases that are often not planned, which affects student financial management. This study provides deep insight into the purchase of NCT merchandise, satisfaction obtained, and consumptive behavior.

Abstract

Child marriage is a common phenomenon in society, especially in rural communities. This research aims to analyse the social construction formed in the community that leads to the normalisation of child marriage. The research was conducted in Karang Rejo Village, Jorong Sub-district, Tanah Laut Regency. This research uses a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach. Data collection methods were observation, interview, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted using the Miles and Huberman interactive model, which includes data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that there is a social construction in the Karang Rejo Village community that supports the normalisation of child marriage. Social construction occurs through three processes: (1) externalisation, where individuals who marry at a child's age begin to introduce their identity in society; (2) objectification, when society forms a collective perception of child marriage; and (3) internalisation, when couples who marry at a child's age adjust to the positive or negative views that develop around them. Factors that support the normalisation of child marriage include the new culture, the old culture, and social conditions. In addition, it is also due to the belief that child marriage is considered to prevent undesirable situations in society. Based on these findings, it is hoped that the community will begin to think more wisely and consider the long-term impact of the adverse effects that will occur if this continues to be done.

Abstract

The existence of a gold mine at Mount Tumpang Pitu is a valuable asset for Indonesia, but it faces a negative stigma due to its environmental impacts, including landscape destruction, landslides, and water pollution, leading to conflicts between local communities, companies, and the government. This research aims to analyse the roots of conflict between local communities and mining companies, the impacts of mining, and alternative conflict resolution that can be implemented. The research method used is a literature study, with data collection from books, magazines, reports, and journals related to mining conflicts. The results show that community dissatisfaction with the Banyuwangi Regent's approval of the mining permit, which is considered legally flawed, as well as the negative impacts on the environment and livelihoods, has resulted in divisions among the community and mobilisation of protests. It was also found that the company's approach of prioritising economic profit over ecological and social sustainability contributed to the prolonged conflict. Therefore, government involvement in protecting community rights and monitoring mining activities in line with sustainable development is crucial. Mediation involving neutral third parties and the establishment of special institutions to handle conflicts are also needed to achieve constructive dialogue. This research is expected to provide theoretical insights in understanding mining-related social conflicts and practical benefits for policy makers in formulating more sustainable and inclusive mining policies.
