Abstract

People communicate with each other using their own style and characteristics to express their ideas and feelings. This research aims to analyze the types and dominant of use of language style in “Mulan: 2020” movie. This research used a descriptive qualitative method. The researcher used Martin Joos’s (1967) theory of language style. The researcher found 85 language style appeared in the “Mulan: 2020” movie which is divided into : Casual Style was found (19) times, Intimate Style (13) times, Consultative style (12) times, Frozen style (11) times, and Formal Style is the dominant language style in the movie "Mulan" (2020) which appeared (30) times. The Formal style is the most dominant language used in this movie because commonly used by characters in formal meetings, like a conversation which set in palace where the interlocutor typically responds without interruption, and clear pronunciation is emphasized.

Abstract

This study analyzes the experience of grief by Julie in Dustin Thao's You've Reached Sam. This study uses psychological theory, the stage of Grief by Elisabeth Kübler-Ross & David Kessler. The focus of this research is discusses the cause of Julie’s grief, the grief stages on Julie and the effect of grief on Julie. This study uses qualitative research with psychological approach. The results show that the cause of Julie's Grief is the stress of losing a loved one. The death of her boyfriend has been a source of deep grief for Julie throughout her life. In the denial stage, Julie is so shocked that she did not expect her boyfriend's death to be the result of an accident. In the anger stage, Julie confronts with a profound sense of anger and frustration. In the bargaining stage, Julie hopes that the person Julie lost can somehow return to her life and things can go back to normal. In the depression stage, Julie experiences profound sadness and a sense of emptiness and loneliness. In the acceptance stage, Julie realizes the need to accept her boyfriend's death as a permanent reality and reestablish herself in her previous life.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to describe the types and contextual meanings of the onomatopoeias found in the comic "Gyakuten Saiban". The steps in the data collection process started from selecting a comic entitled Gyakuten Saiban, reading dialogue dialogues in the comic, collecting data by recording the onomatopoeias contained in the comic, sorting data based on the type of classification, to compiling 5 data tables according to the type of classification. The results of this research were 35 onomatopoeic words consisting of 11 giongo words imitating the sounds of inanimate objects, 2 giseigo words imitating the sounds of living things, 3 gitaigo words denoting the state of inanimate objects, 2 gijougo words denoting the state of the human heart or feelings. and 17 giyougo words which state the state or behavior of living things. The onomatopoeia that is often used is giyougo which states the state or behavior of living things.

Abstract

The article is about Oppression on Black Women in Bernardine Evaristo’s Girl, Woman, Other. The problems are: (1) How is the oppression on black women representation in Bernardine Evaristo Girl, Woman Other? (2) What are the causes of oppression on black women in Bernardine Evaristo Girl, Woman, Other? (3) What are the effects of oppression on black women in Bernardine Evaristo Girl, Woman, Other? The objective of the study is to find reflection of oppression on black women and the cause and the effect of the oppression. In analysis the problem, the thesis writer applies a qualitative method. The thesis writer uses extrinsic approach and psychological approach. The analysis shows that black women experience oppression. The forms of oppression found were discrimination, sexual harassment, racism, verbal abuse, violence, exploitation, and powerlessness. Several causes that make black women experience oppression such as patriarchy, social status, and lack of resources make them experience oppression. The effects of oppression largely determine a women's reaction after experiencing bullying. Some of the effects of oppression are the first household that can be seen. Women take care of all household chores and serve their husbands, because position for men that is higher than women. The second is taking care of children. A woman changes perceptions and as a mother who always protects her children from oppression that ensures happiness of her children. From this analysis it can be concluded that oppression occurs when there is group power to become oppressors, there are causes of oppression so that it has an effect on someone after experiencing oppression.

Abstract

Jenis metafora yang terdapat pada haiku merupakan suatu hal yang menarik karena dapat mengungkapkan suatu maksud atau pesan dari haiku. Penelitian ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan jenis metafora dalam haiku dan mendeskripsikan makna metafora yang ada pada haiku tema musim semi karya Matsuo Basho. Data berupa haiku tema musim semi karya Matsuo Basho yang mengandung metafora struktural, metafora orientasional, metafora ontologis menurut teori oleh Lakoff dan Jonson. Metafora antropomorfik, metafora kehewanan, metafora pengabstrakan, metafora sinestetik berdasarkan teori jenis metafora oleh Ullman, dan ada juga metafora kreatif, metafora konvensional dan metafora leksikal teori menurut Kurz, diperoleh dari haiku tema musim semi karya Matsuo Basho. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan pendekatan stilistika. Setelah dilakukan analisis terhadap haiku didapati 20 jenis metafora. Jenis metafora yang ditemukan adalah metafora struktural terdapat 1 data, kemudian metafora orientasional terdapat 2 data, metafora ontologis terdapat 3 data, metafora antropomorfik terdapat 3 data, metafora kehewanan terdapat 1 data, metafora pengabstrakan terdapat 3 data, metafora sinestetik terdapat 2 data, metafora kreatif terdapat 2 data, metafora konvensional terdapat 2 data, metafora leksikal terdapat 1 data. Abstract

Abstrak. Adaptasi karya sastra ke dalam media lain tidak hanya mengalami perpindahan media, namun banyak aspek dan proses yang dilalui. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui bentuk adaptasi yang dialami cerpen Ningen Isu karya Edogawa Ranpo ke dalam manga Ningen Isu karya Junji Ito. Selain itu, data yang digunakan dalam manga adalah dialog dan konteks, sedangkan pada manga adalah dialog dan visualisasinya. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif analisis dengan pendekatan strukturalisme untuk menilai adaptasi dari segi unsur intrinsic yang terdapat dalam narasi. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori Adaptasi dari Hutcheon dan Teori Alih wahana dari Damono. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah adanya temuan 3 aspek adaptasi yaitu, transposisi, apropriasi kreatif, dan intertekstual yang dilakukan oleh Junji Ito dalam Manga Ningen Isu yang diadaptasi dari cerpen Ningen Isu karya Edogawa Ranpo.

Abstract

Penelitian ini merepresentasikan aktivitas drift dalam anime Initial-D karya Shuichi Shigeno. Penelitian ini menjelaskan bahwa aktivitas yang terjadi pada kehidupan nyata dengan anime tidak jauh berbeda dengan yang sudah ada, hanya saja di anime terlalu melebih-lebihkan jalan ceritanya karena memang sebatas hiburan saja. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah kualitatif dengan menggunakan pendekatan mimetik. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan analisis konten yang kemudian dianalisa dengana analisis deskriptif. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah representasi aktivitas drift yang terdapat pada anime, mulai dari aktivitas sebelum balapan seperti mempersiapkan lintasan drift yang mempunyai banyak tikungan, lintasan yang panjang dan khusus untuk kompetisi sedangkan di anime lintasannya menggunakan jalan raya di pegunungan yang tidak dikonversi sebagai lintasan balap drift sehingga balapan ini bisa dikatakan sebagai balapan ilegal. Kondisi mobil juga memiliki kesamaan yang cukup banyak seperti para karakter melakukan modifikasi mulai dari mesin, ban, rem dan lain-lainnya supaya performa mobil mereka bisa menjadi lebih cepat, sedangkan teknik drift yang di representasikan oleh anime tidak terlalu memperlihatkan bagaimana cara melakukan teknik yang digunakan. Anime ini memang mengadaptasi dari dunia nyata sehingga representasi aktivitas drift dalam anime tidak terlalu jauh berbeda.

Abstract

Abstract. This study is about Patriarchal Culture in Madeline Miller, Circe. The objectives of the study are to identify and explain the forms of patriarchal culture and the effect of patriarchal culture on the main character, Circe. This study utilizes feminist analysis and literary theory approach to unveil the role and influence of patriarchal culture within the novel. Through an in-depth analysis of the main character, Circe, this research reveals how ancient Greek patriarchal culture produce the oppression and subordination of women in society. The findings of this research demonstrate that the novel Circe creatively reinterprets myths and showcases the vulnerability and strength of women that are sometimes overlooked in ancient Greek mythology narratives. The character of Circe is employed to depict women's struggle against patriarchal norms and their quest for self-sovereignty. From the results of analysis, there areetwo formssof patriarchal culture, namely Private Patriarchy and Public Patriarchy. The patriarchal culture that is still considered normal in this fairy tale has a negative impact on the goddess in many ways. Women lose a lot due to the dominance of men over them. Women are devalued by the powerful gods who also put them in a poor position. As a result of this patriarchal culture, the Goddesses are subject to many misconceptions. These gods believe that women are just there to serve their husbands and procreate, as Perse does. The last effect of this patriarchal society is the prevalence of severe physical or psychological violence

Abstract

This research aims to identify and analyses the symptoms, causes, and effects of Borderline Personality Disorder that appears in Alex Michaelides’s The Silent Patient, especially in the two main characters of Theo Faber and Alicia Berenson. The writer uses the qualitative method and employs the psychological approach to analyses the data. There are nine symptoms of Borderline Personality Disorder namely, extreme mood swings, shifting self-image, emptiness, paranoia and dissociation, unstable relationship, fear of abandonment, tantrums or uncontrolled anger, impulsivity, and suicide and self-harm. Meanwhile, the cause of Borderline Personality Disorder is divided into two, biological factors and environmental factors. Lastly, the effects of Borderline Personality Disorder are classified into four aspects namely, relationship, work or school, law, and physical health. The result of the study suggests that Theo Faber exhibit eight symptoms out of nine excluding tantrums or uncontrolled anger. Meanwhile, Alicia Berenson also exhibiting eight symptoms out of nine excluding fear of abandonment. The environmental factors that caused Borderline Personality Disorder to emerged in Theo Faber is his traumatic childhood of physical abuse by his father. Similarly, Alicia also suffers from traumatic childhood of verbal abuse by his father and aunt. Besides that, she also experiences a car accident and witnessing her mother’s death, and she also experiencing sexual harassment by her husband’s brother. Lastly, the effect of Borderline Personality Disorder found in Theo Faber are relationship, law, and physical health, meanwhile the effect of Borderline Personality Disorder in Alicia Berenson are relationship and law.

Abstract

This study discusses Theo Faber's ambitions in the Gabriel’s murder case in Alex Michaelides' The Silent Patient. This study aims to describe Theo's ambitions and the triggers of Theo's ambitions. This study uses the novel, The Silent Patient as the source of data. In answering the problems raised in this study, the writer uses a psychological approach and Ludwig Klages' psychological theory of personality. The approach and theory serve as a guide to analyze the data and reveal the phenomenons of ambitions in the novel. The extrinsic approach used is psychological approach, because the research discusses the psychological side of the characters. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method. The results of this study show that there are two ambitions that arise in Theo's character, to know Alicia's personality and to help Alicia deal with her case. Theo is very interested in Alicia's personality and he pays attention and finds out how Alicia's personality is. Theo, who is responsible for Alicia, wants to help Alicia, so she can talk and solve her case. There are two triggers for Theo's ambitions, feeling guilty and being a psychotherapist. Theo's feelings of guilt towards Alicia appears because of his actions in the past triggers his ambitions to take care of Alicia. Because Theo is a psychotherapist, he is very self-confident, and his work triggers his ambitions for Alicia. Even though many things have happened to Theo's ambitions, Theo still struggles to achieve his ambitions. Theo proves that he has a high desire and motivation to achieve his goal of ambitions. Theo is finally able to achieve his ambitions, which is to help Alicia to want to be willing to speak up.
