Abstract

This study analyzes the implementation of social responsibility programs in Islamic banking through the lens of maqashid sharia. Employing a qualitative case study design, data were collected via interviews, documentation, and literature review. The findings reveal that social responsibility initiatives are manifested through the management of social and charitable funds oriented toward community welfare and sharia values. Programs include educational support, religious activities, social assistance, disaster relief, and other community-based initiatives. From the maqashid sharia perspective, these practices reflect the principles of hifz al-din, hifz al-nafs, hifz al-aql, and hifz al-nasl. However, the principle of hifz al-mal remains underdeveloped due to the absence of productive and sustainable economic empowerment programs. Strengthening community economic empowerment and establishing robust monitoring and evaluation mechanisms are essential to optimize the maqashid sharia-based implementation of social responsibility in Islamic banking. This study contributes to the discourse on aligning Islamic banking practices with maqashid sharia by highlighting both achievements and areas requiring improvement, offering insights for policy development and institutional practice.

Abstract

Customer trust is a strategic asset for Islamic financial institutions in increasingly competitive markets. Sustaining this trust requires consistent adherence to Sharia principles and effective communication strategies, particularly through word-of-mouth. This study investigates the influence of Sharia compliance and word-of-mouth strategy on customer trust in Islamic financial institutions. A quantitative research design was employed, involving a survey of 98 customers selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using structured questionnaires and analyzed using multiple linear regression after fulfilling classical assumption tests, including validity, reliability, normality, multicollinearity, and heteroscedasticity. The findings reveal that Sharia compliance has a positive and significant effect on customer trust (β = 0.477, t = 4.986, p < 0.001), while word-of-mouth strategy also exerts a positive and significant effect (β = 0.414, t = 4.715, p < 0.001). Simultaneously, both variables significantly influence customer trust (F = 211.439, p < 0.001), explaining 90.5% of the variance (R² = 0.905). These results imply that strengthening Sharia governance and fostering positive customer experiences through word-of-mouth can substantially enhance trust, thereby reinforcing the long-term competitiveness and sustainability of Islamic financial institutions.

Abstract

The gap between graduates’ competencies and labor market demands has driven the adoption of Work-Integrated Learning as a bridge between academic knowledge and professional practice. Within Indonesia’s Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka policy, the Teaching Assistance Program embodies this approach, yet its integration with Islamic education perspectives remains underexplored. This article discusses global trends in Work-Integrated Learning, evaluates the extent to which the Teaching Assistance Program fulfills essential principles, and proposes a conceptual framework relevant to Islamic higher education. Using a qualitative content analysis of 75 accredited international and national journal articles published between 2020 and 2025, data were examined thematically through Miles and Huberman’s interactive model. Findings reveal three major trends: (1) expansion from workplace-based to non-workplace models; (2) integration into teacher education through teaching practicums; and (3) digitalization in the post-pandemic era. The Teaching Assistance Program substantively aligns with Work-Integrated Learning principles but requires reinforcement in authentic assessment, structured supervision, and pedagogical reflection. The study contributes to competency-based curriculum development for teacher education in Indonesia, offering implications for Islamic higher education in strengthening professional competencies, pedagogical skills, and ethical values rooted in Qur’anic traditions.

Abstract

The formation of Islamic character in vocational high schools is an urgent necessity in the face of modernization that often erodes moral and spiritual values among students. Islamic Spiritual extracurricular activities serve as a strategic medium to instill discipline, responsibility, social concern, religiosity, and noble morality. This study analyzes the effectiveness of these activities in shaping students’ Islamic character, drawing upon the perspectives of Lickona, Al-Ghazali, and the Ministry of National Education. Using a qualitative case study design, data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving students, mentors, and school authorities. Data were analyzed with Miles and Huberman’s interactive model to ensure validity and systematic interpretation. The findings demonstrate that Islamic Spiritual extracurricular activities effectively strengthen students’ Islamic character, particularly in discipline, responsibility, social awareness, religiosity, and morality. Supporting factors include school support, mentor competence, and student enthusiasm, while inhibiting factors involve limited time, external environmental influences, and inconsistent practice at home. The implication highlights the importance of structured and continuous character-building programs to ensure the internalization of Islamic values in daily life. The novelty lies in affirming the direct relationship between extracurricular effectiveness and Islamic character formation, while uncovering gaps between participation and value application outside school.

Abstract

Ritual aroma represents a sensory dimension in religious practice that bridges symbolism, spirituality, and cultural identity. This study examines the comparative use of Bukhur in Islam and Hio in Confucianism, both employing fragrance and smoke yet grounded in distinct theological foundations, ritual functions, and symbolic meanings. The research aims to analyze similarities and differences in their theological basis, ritual position, symbolic interpretation, and relevance to interfaith dialogue in Indonesia. Using a qualitative descriptive method with comparative and theological approaches, data were collected through literature review of religious texts, hadith compilations, Confucian teachings, and relevant scholarly studies. Findings reveal that Bukhur in Islam functions primarily as fragrance supporting cleanliness, comfort, and devotion, permitted or recommended as long as it avoids associations with superstition or claims of mystical power. Conversely, Hio in Confucianism holds a formal role in worship, symbolizing sincerity, reverence, and harmonious relations among Tian, humanity, ancestors, and the cosmos through ritual order (Li). This research highlights that contextual understanding of ritual symbols fosters interreligious literacy, reduces misinterpretation, and strengthens tolerance within Indonesian society, thereby contributing to constructive interfaith engagement.

Abstract

The concept of sakinah in the Qur’an represents an important value associated with inner tranquility, emotional stability, and closeness to Allah. This study aims to analyze the concept of sakinah in M. Quraish Shihab’s Tafsir Al-Misbah and examine its relevance to cognitive psychology. This study employed a qualitative descriptive approach with a library research design. The primary data source was Tafsir Al-Misbah, particularly its interpretation of verses concerning sakinah in Surah Al-Baqarah [2]: 248, Surah At-Tawbah [9]: 26 and 40, Surah Al-Fath [48]: 4, 18, and 26, and Surah Ar-Rum [30]: 21. Secondary data were obtained from books, journal articles, and other scholarly literature related to Qur’anic exegesis, sakinah, and cognitive psychology. The data were analyzed using content analysis. The findings reveal that sakinah in Tafsir Al-Misbah refers not only to outward calmness but also to inner tranquility arising from faith, self-control, positive thinking, and the ability to regulate emotions. These findings demonstrate the relevance of sakinah to cognitive psychology, particularly in promoting psychological tranquility among modern individuals through the integration of spiritual values and healthy thought processes.

Abstract

The internalization of moral and social values in pesantren does not always occur uniformly, as it is influenced by students’ family backgrounds, parenting styles, and technological developments. This study aims to analyze the process of internalizing theological and social moral values, their practical application in students’ daily lives, the influencing factors, and the role of Pondok Pesantren Mawaridussalam in shaping santri character. A qualitative method with a phenomenological approach was employed. Data were collected through participatory observation, interviews, and documentation, involving 20 informants consisting of pesantren leaders, teachers, student care administrators, and santri representatives. Data analysis was conducted through reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing, while validity was ensured through source and technique triangulation. The findings reveal that theological and social moral values are internalized through teacher role modeling, leadership training, educational guidance, worship habituation, deliberation, layered supervision, and the implementation of rewards and sanctions. The core values instilled include sincerity, muraqabah (self-vigilance), trust in God, responsibility, justice, equality, honesty, accountability, and social concern. The success of this internalization is supported by 24-hour boarding life, structured evaluation, and collaboration with parents, while differences in family background and technology use remain significant challenges. These findings affirm that pesantren functions not only as a moral education institution but also as a training ground for social leadership among santri.

Abstract

Research on Zentangle has largely emphasized psychological, therapeutic, and educational outcomes, while the motifs themselves remain underexplored as visual and aesthetic systems. This study addresses that gap by systematically examining the visual grammar and aesthetic differentiation of geometric, organic, and hybrid Zentangle motifs. The objective is to construct a comparative framework that clarifies how different motif categories generate distinct visual and aesthetic impressions. A qualitative descriptive–analytical design was applied to thirty purposively selected motifs. Data collection involved visual observation, literature review, and documentation. Analysis proceeded in two stages: first, visual elements and organizational relations were mapped using Wucius Wong’s framework; second, aesthetic interpretation was conducted through Anak Agung Made Djelantik’s triadic aspects of form, content, and presentation. Form encompassed the structural composition of lines, shapes, and spatial organization; content referred to expressive meaning conveyed through rhythm, balance, and symbolic resonance; presentation highlighted sensory impact, including clarity, harmony, and dynamic appeal. Results revealed that lines and repetition consistently functioned as principal devices across categories. Geometric motifs emphasized straight lines, angular fields, and formal structures; organic motifs emphasized curved lines, rounded fields, and flowing arrangements; hybrid motifs integrated structural regularity with organic flexibility. The study contributes a systematic comparative model for reading nonrepresentational pattern-based visuals and offers implications for motif development in surface design, textiles, illustration, and digital art.

Abstract

The cultivation of critical thinking skills is a central demand of 21st-century education. Within Islamic education, this development must be anchored in the epistemological tradition of usul al-fiqh, particularly through the reasoning instruments of mantuq and mafhum. This study reconstructs these concepts as an epistemological foundation for critical thinking by proposing the Critical Islamic Reasoning Framework . Employing a qualitative library-based research design, the study applies content analysis to classical usul al-fiqh texts and contemporary scholarship on critical thinking and Islamic education. The analytical process involved concept identification, categorization, synthesis, and interpretation to reveal the relationship between mantuq, mafhum, and critical thinking indicators. Findings demonstrate that mantuq operates as a tool for textual recognition of explicit meaning, while mafhum functions as a mechanism for contextual interpretation of implicit meaning. Both are reinforced by logical verification, ethical reflection, and contextual application. The synthesis produces the CIRF model, integrating revelation, reason, and reality as the epistemological basis for critical thinking. This study expands the role of mantuq and mafhum beyond legal deduction, positioning them as a conceptual framework for critical thinking education relevant to contemporary Islamic educational development.

Abstract

Negative body image among adolescents has increasingly emerged alongside the influence of social media, which promotes diverse standards of beauty and ideal appearance. This condition may lead to low self-confidence, poor self-acceptance, and limited social interaction among students. This study aims to develop counseling media based on reflection cards to foster positive body image within the framework of Islamic values. Employing a Research and Development (R&D) approach with the 4D model limited to three stages Define, Design, and Develop the research involved 30 students in the needs analysis, one material expert, one media expert, one counseling teacher, and nine students in a limited trial. Data were collected through interviews and questionnaires, and analyzed using descriptive quantitative and qualitative techniques. The results show that the reflection card media achieved a feasibility level of 96% from the media expert and 98% from the material expert, categorized as highly feasible. Student responses reached 88.3%, while counseling teacher responses were 98%, both categorized as highly practical. These findings indicate that reflection card-based counseling media is feasible and practical for supporting the development of positive body image among students in accordance with Islamic perspectives.
