Culture is one of Indonesia's wealth. The role of the community, especially indigenous peoples in Indonesia, is to preserve the culture inherited from ancestors so that it is not lost in the modernization era. In this case, the importance of younger generation, as the successor of the nation, knows the meaning of a tradition so that it becomes part of the preservation of culture itself. The purpose of this study was to find out the message contained in the communication of Mungka trade rituals in Tepal Village, Sumbawa Regency. The method used in this study is qualitative descriptive. The data collection technique used is with primary and secondary data. In determining informants in this study, researchers used purposive sampling techniques. The results of this study show that the message in the Mungka traditional tradition is not just a symbol of the maturation process. But it holds a deep meaning apart from the symbol of maturity. The traditional procession is expected to be a procession that makes the people of Tepal Village become responsible humans and respect the cultural values taught by the ancestors, with the increased responsibility expected by every community.

Abstract

Women are often subjected to verbal abuse in real life, as well as in digital life. Verbal harassment of women does not develop solely on certain women, but it does not rule out the possibility for any woman to get verbal harassment. Anisa Rostiana, a toddler education content host on TikTok @Kinderflix.idn, has received negative comments with various kinds of verbal abuse. Sadly, most verbal abuse comes from 'anonymous' accounts deliberately created by irresponsible people in cyberspace to comment at will. This research proves the verbal abuse Anisa received in the @Kinderflix.idn comment section. This verbal abuse was analyzed using Philipp Mayring's Content Analysis theory. Verbal harassment is divided into three categories; the first is Verbal Sexual Harassment, which contains comments leading to sexual activities to fulfill men's fantasies. Second, Euphemism Verbal Harassment by utilizing words/sentences that have been softened to have a double or ambiguous meaning. The last is the objectification of women, which is very thick, by making Anisa an object/good that can be watched, contested, and claimed as property by others.

Abstract

People with mental disorders have their rights as part of Indonesian citizens. The existence of social experimental content related to people with mental disorders makes them vulnerable to becoming objects of commodification. This study aims to determine the form of commodification practices of people with mental disorders on Pratiwi Noviyanthi's YouTube channel. Using Roland Barthes' semiotic analysis, the researcher wants to see the meaning of denotation, connotation, and myth on Pratiwi Noviyanthi's YouTube channel in the case of an old woman with long nails in Surabaya. This research found 7 scenes depicting social exploitation and dramatization of scenes that play a role in the practice of commodification of people with mental disorders on Pratiwi Noviyanthi's YouTube channel, in the case of an old woman with long nails in Surabaya. The commodification of people with mental disorders is carried out through social content that ignores their rights to protection from exploitation and discrimination. This content is presented with various editing approaches and techniques, such as adding background music, color changes, and visual effects to dramatize the scene. This aims to attract viewers' attention to Pratiwi Noviyanthi's YouTube channel. Viewer interaction is converted into economic profit through advertisements embedded in Pratiwi Noviyanthi's content about people with mental disorders.

Abstract

This article discusses the minimalist lifestyle campaign on TikTok, an effort to reject the lifestyle of postmodernism society. According to Jean Baudrillard, the lifestyle of postmodernist society is considered to have a consumptive tendency where the value of consumption is more massive than the value of production. This lifestyle requires that in consuming, it is seen not only on the day of use value but also in the fulfillment of signs and symbols. The author uses a qualitative research method, Roland Barthes' theory of semiotic analysis. This article shows that the consumerist lifestyle, identical to postmodernist society, has many detrimental effects on humans, especially the environment. So a campaign was launched by a community account on TikTok for minimalist lifestyle @lyfewithless.community #BelajarJadiMinimalis to mobilize and socialize a Minimalist lifestyle that prioritizes the use value and restores the essence of consumption itself, namely using something because it is needed, not the desire to fulfill certain symbols.

Abstract

This study aims to interpret the symbols, meanings, and values of the Sayyang Pattuqduq tradition in the Mandarese community in Majene Regency, West Sulawesi. The study is descriptive qualitative and uses a communication ethnography approach and semiotic analysis method. The primary and secondary research data collection methods include field observations, interviews, and documentation. Literature study and communication ethnography methods are also applied to enrich the variety of research data. In identifying the symbols obtained from a series of interpretations of Sayyang Pattuqduq, Charles Sanders Peirce's semiotic analysis is used, which states that there is a triadic relationship in semiotics that is interconnected between symbols in the celebration, the object of the celebration, and the people who interpret the celebration. The results of this study show that the interpretation of Sayyang Pattuqduq in the community in Majene Regency, West Sulawesi, indicates that there are symbols in the Sayyang Pattuqduq celebration, such as cultural communication symbols, spiritual symbols, symbols of togetherness, and symbols of social stratification. In addition, there are values that each have meaning, among others, as a medium in motivating children, as a function of social solidarity, a function of social integration, as a medium for instilling spiritual values, and as a symbol of stratification by certain groups or communities.

Abstract

Podcasting, both audio and video (vodcast), is an effective tool to enhance students' skills in the field of communication. The Communication and Islamic Broadcasting Study Program (KPI) at Hasyim Asy'ari University (Unhasy) Tebuireng, Jombang, integrates podcast production into its curriculum to prepare students for the challenges of the Industry 4.0 and Society 5.0 era. Although the students have produced over 100 podcasts, the quality is still suboptimal, particularly in communication, sound stability, visual quality, and audience engagement. This research aims to develop a podcast production guidebook using the ADDIE model for KPI students at Unhasy. The results demonstrated that the instructional guidebook received validation from subject matter experts with a commendable score of 93% and from media experts with a score of 92%. Furthermore, when it was tested on the students, the guidebook yielded a feasibility rating of 82%. Those results indicate that the guidebook is highly feasible, signifying a high level of practicality and applicability. Although some aspects need improvement, such as adding practical materials, simplifying technical instructions, and focusing on the creative aspects of podcasting, this guidebook has helped improve podcast production quality and served as a key learning reference.
