Abstract

Malaria remains a major public health issue in Indonesia, particularly in regions with high endemicity such as Papua and East Nusa Tenggara. According to the 2010 Basic Health Research (Riskesdas), the national malaria prevalence was 0.6%, with the highest rates recorded in West Papua (10.6%), Papua (10.1%), and East Nusa Tenggara (4.4%). In 2023, Papua continued to be identified as a region with high endemicity, while West Nusa Tenggara was classified as having low endemicity. Severe malaria, including cerebral malaria, is a serious complication characterized by central nervous system dysfunction, such as decline consciousness, seizures, and neurocognitive impairment, as well as systemic complications such as anemia, hypoglycemia, metabolic acidosis, and hepatosplenomegaly. Management of severe malaria requires the administration of antimalarial injections, such as intravenous artesunate as the first line therapy or quinine drip if artesunate is unavailable, performed in healthcare facilities equipped with inpatient care and intensive monitoring. This procedure involves close monitoring of blood pressure, temperature, blood glucose levels, and organ function to prevent further complications. The prognosis of cerebral malaria patients depends on the timeliness of diagnosis and proper management, while comprehensive care can improve recovery rates and reduce long-term risks. Preventive efforts through strengthening healthcare facilities in endemic areas and increasing public awareness is crucial to reduce the incidence of severe malaria and its adverse effects.

Abstract

Waiting time for inpatient discharge is the time from the time the patient is discharged by the doctor until the patient leaves the treatment room. The standard of waiting time for patient discharge has been set in the minimum service standard in Permenkes RI no 129 of 2008 where the waiting time for patient discharge does not exceed 2 hours (Depkes RI, 2008). The study aims to determine the waiting time for discharge of hospitalized patients in the hospital. This type of research is a literature review with the PICOST method in analyzing the problem and the process of searching for research articles. The literature approach also uses the PRISMA method which is carried out in an organized manner by complying with proper and consistent procedures and steps. The article search for 2019-2023 was carried out with the online database feature which found 213 journal articles collected from Science Direct, PubMed and Google Scholar and selected 5 articles that met the inclusion criteria for review. The results showed that the average waiting time for hospital discharge was 3.4 hours.

Abstract

Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) such as syphilis are a significant health threat among adolescents, especially due to a lack of knowledge and awareness about how to prevent them. This study aims to develop and evaluate an educational program about syphilis as a preventive measure against the spread of STDs in SMK Negeri 2 Medan. The method used was a quasi-experimental approach with a pretest-posttest design. The educational program involved delivering materials through presentations, interactive discussions, and visual media. The results showed a significant increase in the level of students' knowledge and awareness about syphilis, including how it is transmitted, its symptoms, and prevention efforts. This program also positively impacted students' attitudes toward maintaining reproductive health. This study concluded that education about syphilis is very effective as a preventive measure to reduce the risk of spreading sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) among adolescents. The recommendation from this study is the implementation of similar programs in other schools to increase adolescent awareness about sexual health more widely

Abstract

The risk of increased blood pressure will occur at the age of >50 years. The incidence of hypertension is increasing with the age of a person. If the blood vessels narrow, the flow of the arteries will be disrupted, where there will be a decrease in O2 (oxygen) and an increase in CO2 (carbon dioxide), resulting in pain. Non-pharmacological therapy that can reduce pain in hypertensive patients is dry cupping combined with acupressure. The implications of dry cupping therapy combined with acupressure are carried out 3 times a day in 1 week with a duration of 20 minutes. On the third day of the patient pain scale visit, the patient was measured using a numerical rating scale in the first patient on the pain scale of 3, the second patient on the pain scale of 3, and the third patient on the pain scale of 2. After being given dry cupping therapy combined with acupressure with acute pain problems, it was concluded that the pain level decreased after being given dry cupping therapy combined with acupressure.

Abstract

Dengue is a tropical disease that is still a major health problem and effects almost half of the world’s human population, especially in Indonesia and affects adults and children. Many efforts have been made to control the disease and spread of Dengue vectors, one of that is the development of the dengue vaccine as part of prevention strategy. This study shows the profile, safety, efficacy, immunogenicity and effectiveness one of the dengue vaccines; Chimeric yellow fever 17 D virus – tetravalent dengue vaccine (CYD-TDV) which is currently in phase III trial and has been licensed in nearly 20 countries in the world. The research method in this literature review used several journals from 2015-2020 in media publications Google Scholar, NCBI, ResearchGate, WHO etc. CYD-TDV is a live attenuated vaccine which is development of dengue virus gene combine with a non-structural gene from the 17 D yellow fever vaccine strain. Vaccines are considered quite safe even though they still potentially causing systemic or local side effects. WHO Strategic Advisory Group of Express on Immunization (SAGE) recommends the use of CYD-TDV vaccine for individuals ≥9 years of age in dengue endemic areas with high transmission intensity, where seroprevalence is >70%. The use of vaccines in children aged 9 years has been shown to reduce the incidence of hospitalization due to Dengue fever. In Indonesia there’s not much information about the development, analysis, and data collection related to the use of dengue vaccine or CYD-TDV, so further research needs to be done.

Abstract

Breakfast is the best way to give the brain the energy it needs to focus in class. Breakfast is very important to meet nutritional needs in the morning, especially for children who have many academic obligations. The aim of this research is to determine the effect of counseling about the importance of breakfast on knowledge and attitudes at SD Negeri 104226 Sukarende. In this research, it was carried out using the ABCD method. The outreach media used in this research is PPT material and showing animated videos about the importance of breakfast. The research results showed that during the counseling, teachers, parents and children all responded quite well. Breakfast has a very important role in supporting the health and learning achievement of school children. Breakfast has two purposes, namely providing adequate nutrition and maintaining the body's immune system, thus allowing the body to carry out its tasks efficiently. Children need energy for physical activity, studying in class, and participating in various other school activities. Without breakfast, the body will take energy reserves from stored glycogen, but this will soon run out and cause students to feel tired quickly, lack energy, and can even faint. Media-based counseling for elementary school students is very useful and more effective because media-based counseling can increase knowledge and understanding and is more easily absorbed by students at SD Negeri 104226 Sukarende. For students at SD Negeri 104226 Sukarende, breakfast is very important to start daily activities and study well.
