Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the impact of digital tools on improving literacy through a systematic literature review. The results of the study show that digital tools, such as e-books, educational applications, and online learning platforms, have great potential to improve student literacy by providing flexible access and a variety of relevant reading sources. Digital tools also offer interactive features that can increase student engagement and understanding, as well as provide instant feedback that aids the learning process. However, this study also identifies several challenges, including the digital divide and the potential for disruption that can result from uncontrolled use of digital tools. Optimising the benefits of digital tools for improving literacy requires collaboration from various parties, such as teachers, parents, and education policymakers, as well as adequate training for educators. Overall, when used correctly, digital tools can make a significant contribution to improving student literacy.

Abstract

This literature review aims to analyse the influence of government policies on the status of honorary teachers in Indonesia. The results show that although policies such as the appointment of honorary teachers as civil servants, certification programmes, and the provision of professional allowances have provided opportunities for improving the status and welfare of some honorary teachers, their implementation still faces significant challenges. Budget limitations, regulatory inconsistencies and disparities between regions are the main obstacles. As a result, many honorary teachers still face status uncertainty, low income and lack of social security. The study also identifies the impact of these conditions on honorary teachers' motivation, performance and professionalism, and the implications for education quality. Based on the analysis, more comprehensive and sustainable policy reforms are recommended, including simplifying the appointment process, increasing the budget, improving the recruitment system, and developing alternative career paths for honorary teachers. Strengthening coordination between central and local governments is also emphasised to ensure more effective and equitable policy implementation.

Abstract

The purpose of this evaluation is to review the recent literature on welfare programmes for guru honorer. This review provides an overview of the efforts that have been made to improve the financial and non-financial welfare of honorary teachers, as well as the challenges that remain in their implementation. Research results from this literature review show that financial incentives such as salary increases and additional allowances have a positive impact on honorary teachers' motivation and performance, although their distribution is still uneven. In addition, non-financial aspects such as training and professional development were also identified as important factors in improving honorary teachers' teaching competencies and skills. However, access to these training programmes is still limited, especially in remote areas. The conclusion of this review emphasises the need for a more holistic and inclusive strategy to improve the welfare of guru honorer, which includes increased wages, provision of allowances and better access to professional training. Co-operation between the government, educational institutions and local communities is essential to achieve equitable welfare for honorary teachers in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study addresses gender differences in literacy and numeracy achievement through a critical review of existing literature. The results show that females tend to excel in literacy, while males often do better in numeracy. Factors influencing these differences include gender stereotypes, social support, pedagogical methods, and individual interests and motivation. This study emphasises the importance of a more gender-responsive and inclusive approach to education to reduce this achievement gap. Recommended strategies include equal interest coaching, gender stereotype awareness programmes and active involvement of parents and the school community. This will create a supportive learning environment for all students, thereby improving overall literacy and numeracy achievement.

Abstract

Fire emergency is a common phenomenon in educational institutions, usually with lethal results if not immediately in an event of outbreak. The consequences usually include loss of life, injuries, destruction of property and institutional facilities in this year alone nearly 50 cases of school fire outbreaks have been reported in Kenya with disastrous results. Yet a comparative study of this nature in the named country is hardly there and hence it will bridge the knowledge gap in the concern. The purpose of the study was to assess the emergency of fire disaster preparedness in public and private secondary schools in Kenya.Spefically the study sought to determine the causes of frequent fire outbreaks in educational institutions in Kenya; to determine the consequences of fire outbreaks in Kenyan schools; determine the fire emergency preparedness in schools within the framework established by the Ministry of Education 2008 and to determine the way forward toward fire emergency preparedness in Kenyan Secondary schools. The study adopted meta-analysis of empirical studies in accordance to Ferrer 1998.The study established that: there are diverse causes of fire outbreaks in schools including electric faults, eruption of gas cylinders in the laboratories, use of candles in the dormitories in case of blackouts, students’ misunderstandings with school administration leading to strikes and burning schools’ property, others could be due to suspicious arsonist work. Consequences of fire outbreaks include destruction of schools’ infrastructure and property and students’ belongings, injuries and even death. That most of schools do not meet the required MOEST schools’ safety standards (2008), with grilled windows, lack of fire extinguishers, no fire assembly site. That way forward includes meeting MOEST safety guidelines, schools’ finding means preventing any possible strikes that can lead to burning of schools’ property.

This study examines the principles behind micro-teaching exercises to an innovative approach (Digital video) that could be combined with the traditional procedure to improve micro-teaching methodology. The study adopts the qualitative method as a source of data collection. Two focus group discussions comprising five (5) participants were used, and responses were analyzed with thematic analysis, three themes were generated for discussion which include; (1)the perception of micro-teaching exercises (2) digital video as an active form of participation, and (3)in-depth knowledge of good practices. Abstract

Language competence is required among teachers for effective professional practice because they use language as a medium and object of instruction. This study aimed to determine the private basic education teachers' language competence. A mixed method was utilized to gather data. The study revealed that basic education teachers have an overall basic level of language competence. It is attributed to insufficient knowledge of grammatical rules, amount of workload, lack of awareness about the language’s social rules, lack of seminars and training for professional development, use of code-switching, weak foundation on sensitivity, culture, behavior, and non–verbal communication, and anxiety in using English. Furthermore, English teachers and those who have higher educational attainment have an advanced level of overall language competence, while teachers who have longer years in teaching and those who have high educational attainment have an advanced level of sociolinguistic and strategic competence respectively. This implies that teachers who do not specialize in English, who are new in the teaching profession, and who are holders of bachelor's degree must undergo more training and seminars to intensify their competence in language; hence, there is a necessity to propose and implement a differentiated developmental program.

Character education is an important aspect in the world of education, especially in forming disciplined behavior from an early age. This study analyzes various sources such as journal articles, theses, and books that are relevant and published in the last ten years. The results of the study indicate that the implementation of character education integrated into subjects, extracurricular activities, and school culture has a positive impact on improving student discipline. Supporting factors such as principal leadership, teacher and parent involvement, and adequate facilities also strengthen the success of this program. On the other hand, limited teacher training and inconsistent application of values are major obstacles. This study concludes that character education that is implemented in a planned, consistent, and collaborative manner has proven effective in forming disciplined behavior in elementary school students.

Abstract

This study aims to analyse the role of inclusive education in reducing learning gaps between students from different economic backgrounds using a literature review method. A systematic review of various sources, such as books, scientific journals, articles, and relevant policy documents, was conducted to gain a comprehensive understanding of the practices, challenges, and strategies of inclusive education in various contexts. The results of the literature study indicate that inclusive education contributes to expanding access to quality education for all students, especially economically disadvantaged groups, through adaptive policies such as fee subsidies, exemption from infaq (voluntary donations), and the use of affordable educational technology. However, its effectiveness is still influenced by factors such as limited teacher competence, uneven infrastructure, and social and cultural resistance in the school environment. Thus, inclusive education supported by progressive policies, continuous teacher training, and multi-stakeholder collaboration can be an effective strategy to narrow learning gaps and promote educational equity.
