Abstract

Discourse about divinity in the Vedas is so extensive that it has produced many documents from reflection and in-depth study of the pursuit of God. This Brahmavidya-Upanisad is the centerpiece of the 39th Upanisad of 112 Upanisads translated by board scholars. This Brahmavidya-Upanisad is the result of contemplative research by ancient sages who used the paravidya-apaparavidya approach. This approach is a holistic approach, namely the paravidya approach is related to the investigation of the microcosm, and the aparavidya approach is related to the investigation of the macrocosm. The paravidya approach is a spiritual approach (subjective) and the aparavidya approach is a material approach (positive objective). The integration of this positivistic subjective-objective approach is a harmonious-integrative approach called a holistic approach, a blend of spirituality and science. The results of integrative contemplative research on the cOṁbination of spiritual-science found that the macrocosm and microcosm are the same but differ in intensity. The results of the research of these sages have given space for mankind to seek God within themselves or to seek God in all His creations that are in front of humans. There is nothing worse or better than man's search for God. If he is a layman then he can seek and place God outside of himself; but for spiritualists can worship God inside or outside themselves or both. This is a form of theology of freedOṁ and theology of liberation that can liberate humans frOṁ alienation frOṁ God.

Abstract

This article aims to discuss the education of Tri Hita Karana (THK) in the drama gong performance in the era of society 5.0 and its meaning for the sustainability of Balinese culture. This article is the result of a qualitative study whose data were collected through observation, document studies, and in-depth interviews with performers and representatives of the audience of drama gong, as well as observers of Balinese arts and culture. Qualitative descriptive analysis was carried out by applying semiotic theory, symbolic interactionism theory, and social action theory (Bourdieu). The results of the study show that traditional Balinese performing arts function as a medium of entertainment and education of Balinese culture, especially about the philosophy of THK to its fans. Through three drama gong stories, namely "Jayaprana", "Ni Diah Tantri" and "Cupak Madeg Ratu" have succeeded in entertaining as well as delivering education on THK, so that Balinese people are able to realize a harmonious life: between humans and God (parahyangan ), humans with each other (pawongan), and humans with nature (palemahan). THK education through drama gong performances has a meaning in strengthening traditions and sustaining the cultural sustainability of the Balinese Hindu community.

Abstract

The reality of God's existence is still a big question, especially for philosophers. Various attempts were made to acquire perfect knowledge of the existence of God. Various methods and arguments appear as a form of the activeness of the human mind in an effort to obtain the truth. One of the views that emerged and was considered logical was the view of i Gautama with the Nyaya philosophy which puts forward the logic and cosmological arguments of Thomas Aquinas' thought. These two views provide an understanding that God really exists and is the cause of everything that exists. These two views cannot be said to be perfect because they still raise questions about God as the ultimate reality that cannot be reached by human limitations. This paper tries to convey and elaborate the understanding of eastern and western philosophy about the existence of God by using the comparative method.

Abstract

The lack of research and in-depth discussion of the concept of Hindu Cosmology became the basis for researchers to conduct this research. This study uses the text of Tutur Bhuwana as the object of research. The purpose of this study is to be able to analyze the concept of Hindu Cosmology (Virat Vidyā) in the Tutur Bhuwana Mareka text, especially in the aspects of creation (uttpti), maintenance (stiti), and annihilation (pralina) of the universe. This research is a type of research that uses qualitative methods by conducting research or literature studies and searching online data as a data collection technique. The use of this method is to obtain in-depth information related to the concept of Hindu Cosmology (Virat Vidyā) in the Tutur Bhuwana Mareka text. Mainly related to the process of creation, maintenance, and dissolution of the universe. The process of creation (uttpti) of the universe in the text of Tutur Bhuwana Mareka begins in a very quiet and empty state of the universe (hning sunya nirbhana). Then came Sang Hyang Nora as the initial entity for the emergence of Sang Hyang Mareka Jati as the beginning of the process of creating the universe. Then there is the maintenance process (stiti) of the universe which is based on the basic concept of the Tri Sakti which includes the mind (idep), breath (bayu) and sound (sabda). And the last is the process of fusion (pralina) of the universe which adheres to the concept of Shiva Linga. This concept describes the process of creating the universe by Sang Hyang Mareka Jati, who will eventually return to Him as the highest entity.

Abstract

Society is a unity of human life that can be mutually exclusive according to certain rules, norms, and customs that are continuous and bound by a common identity. It is inevitable that society is formed without individual interaction as the main constituent of society. Therefore, the individual is the key to the idealized form of community building. This article examines the thoughts of several philosophers working in the field of social philosophy and compares them to a complete understanding of the concept of the society they aspire to, namely a social construction that is peaceful, without fear, and far from violent behavior.

Abstract

The social order and religious behavior in Indonesia, especially in Bali, have undergone many changes due to fluctuations in the Covid-19 pandemic. In addition to the impact on health, it also touches on the socio-religious behavior of Hindus in Bali. This religious perspective has a very strong influence in making people aware, especially Hindus in Bali, to take certain actions, including in dealing with the Covid-19 outbreak. This is also a very difficult challenge to the lives of Hindus, especially in Bali during this pandemic, namely when holding yajna ceremonies. Some changes in the behavior of Hindus are examples of the stages of outpouring or human self-expression into a world that is much different from the period before the Covid-19 pandemic. This has certainly rebuilt the social life and religiosity of Hindus in Bali during the Covid-19 pandemic. This article uses a qualitative approach by applying a descriptive analytical method. The construction process of behavior and social life of Hindus in Bali during the Covid-19 Pandemic, when viewed from the perspective of Berger & Luckman's theory, took place through dialectical social interactions of three forms which became the entry concept, namely objective reality, symbolic reality and subjective reality. Regarding the Covid-19 pandemic situation, in terms of the religiosity of Hindus in Bali, the implementation of the yajna ritual should be carried out in a simple way, but still guided by the provisions of the Vedic scriptures.

Abstract

The dynamics of Balinese life are constantly under the spotlight because of the variety of cultural activities that blend with various aspects of life. The arts of barong and rangda are spread across all districts and cities in Bali, but not all pakraman villages or temples have barong and rangda arts. This is due to the existence of barong and rangda in the religious dynamics of Balinese Hindu society. although in reality barong and rangda are not merely a form of art, but furthermore they are the implementation of theology (divine teachings) of Hinduism, both regarding the philosophical side (the essence) of religion and psychology (psychological/emotional aspects) of religion. This article is the result of qualitative research by applying the theological description approach and philosophy of art. The existence of Barong-Rangda is very important in the socio-religious life of Balinese people, because people still need symbols to express their devotion to God/Ida Sang Hyang Widhi Wasa.
