Abstract

In carrying out rituals carried out by Hindus, of course they cannot be separated from the five basic beliefs called five yadnya. Such as the ritual of slaughtering needed kucit which is carried out by the people of the Sanding Traditional Village, which is one of the parts of the panca yadnya, especially the bhuta yadnya which is held once a year on Tilem Kawulu day, where this ritual is carried out at the Pura Dalem jaba of the Sanding Traditional Village as a form of treat or food given to the bhuta-bhuti and rarencang Ida Bhatara at Pura Dalem for the sake of safety and secrecy and protection of the universe. Based on the phenomena found in the implementation of panyambleh kucit butuan, it is very important to carry out research with the title "ritual of panyambleh kucit butuan in the mecaru sasih kawulu ceremony at Jaba Dalem Temple, Sanding Traditional Village, Tampaksiring District, Gianyar Regency". This research raises three main problems, namely: (1) What is the process of the panyambleh kucit butuan ritual in the mecaru sasih kawulu ceremony at Jaba Pura Dalem, Sanding Traditional Village, Tampaksiring District, Gianyar Regency?, (2) What is the function of the panyambleh kucit butuan ritual in the mecaru ceremony? sasih kawulu in Jaba Pura Dalem, Sanding Traditional Village, Tampaksiring District, Gianyar Regency?, (3) Positive and negative impacts of the panyambleh kucit butuan ritual in the mecaru sasih kawulu ceremony in Jaba Dalem Temple which is carried out by the people of Sanding Traditional Village, Tampaksiring District, Gianyar Regency?.

Abstract

Understanding the diversity of functions of temples along with the various rituals and ceremonies that differ across regions, as well as the uniqueness of specific ceremonies within temples, fosters an appreciation for this valuable cultural heritage and highlights its significant role in Balinese society. The diversity of functions and the uniqueness of ceremonial processes in temples are exemplified by distinctive rituals, one of which occurs in religious practices. For instance, the pujawali tradition at Dalem Susunan Wadon Temple in Desa Serangan is conducted every six months, coinciding with the sacred day of Kuningan. Additionally, each ceremony requires the manifestation of the deity residing in Dalem Susunan Wadon Temple prior to the execution of the pengerebegan ceremony; without this manifestation, the ceremony cannot take place. From this description, several research questions arise: Why is the manifestation conducted during pujawali at Dalem Sakenan Temple towards Dalem Susunan Wadon Temple? What is the process of this manifestation? What implications arise from its execution? These questions will be addressed through various theoretical frameworks: religious system theory will inform the first issue, structural-functional theory will address the second, and symbolic theory will serve as the basis for the third. The examination will broadly include the historical context of Dalem Sakenan Temple and Dalem Susunan Wadon Temple, the reasons for the manifestation of Sesuhunan at Dalem Susunan Wadon Temple during pujawali at Dalem Sakenan Temple, the methodology of the manifestation, the traditions associated with it, the process of manifestation, the materials involved, the procedural aspects, the requirements and timing of the manifestation, the parties involved, and the various implications of this ritual, encompassing theological, social, ethical, religious, and aesthetic dimensions.

Abstract

In the principle of socio-ecology, the existence of various natural phenomena is a dynamic form that occurs in the spiritual and empirical corridor of humans in knowing the substance of the relationship of life between various dimensions, both physical and metaphysical. Hinduism in Bali has inherited a supply of fundamental knowledge regarding the context of disasters, which in various ritual practices carried out have the main purpose of harmonizing life between humans, God, and nature. Regarding this statement, knowledge about disasters and their mitigation is summarized in one of the tattwa texts called Lontar Rogha Sanghara Bhumi. This research is a qualitative research. In order to produce valid and credible research, this research uses two types of theoretical foundations to test the truth of the data obtained during the research. In this case, the eco-semiotic theory is used to analyze the signs of disaster conveyed by Lontar Rogha Sanghara Bhumi, while the Tri Hita Karana Theology theory is used to analyze the mitigation carried out for disaster management according to Lontar Rogha Sanghara Bhumi, and in the data analysis technique, content analysis is used so that this research can be presented descriptively. The findings produced in this study are the signs that appear before and are felt before the earthquake disaster occurs. The earthquakes in each sasih are believed to have different values and impacts so that the type of earthquake that has a destructive impact on nature and the type of earthquake that is believed to be a sign that the universe has been given a gift by God can be identified. Another finding is that the mitigation that should be carried out to overcome the disaster is by carrying out various tawur rituals such as Pancawalikrama and Labuh Gentuh to overcome disasters that occur periodically, while the nangluk merana, prayascitta, and guru piduka ceremonies are used to overcome disasters that occur incidentally.

Abstract

Hinduism believes that the concept of God is a fundamental value in religious practice (Heriyanti, 2020). Hindu theology is a universal truth about the essence of God, derived from the sacred scriptures of Hinduism (Vedas), which discuss the philosophy of divinity, known as Brahma Vidya. Brahma Vidya is the knowledge that guides humans toward awareness of their spiritual purpose. The teaching of truth is considered one of the ultimate goals in religious life, achieved through self-discipline, purification of the mind, and harmony between body and soul. One way to support this teaching is through the practice of yoga. Yoga Bhuwana Prawerti is a sequence of yoga practices rooted in the Watukaru tradition. The effective transmission and explanation of Yoga Bhuwana Prawerti to the community require an appropriate method. Therefore, this research aims to provide an accurate explanation through a study of Hindu theology in Yoga Bhuwana Prawerti of the Watukaru tradition at Pasraman Seruling Dewata, Tabanan, Bali. This research explores: 1) the existence of Yoga Bhuwana Prawerti of the Watukaru tradition; 2) the religious symbols embedded in Yoga Bhuwana Prawerti; and 3) the meaning of Hindu theology in Yoga Bhuwana Prawerti. Theories applied in this study include the Theory of Existence, the Theory of Religion, and the Theory of Symbols to analyze the research problems. The method used in this research is qualitative, involving several stages: determining the research type, identifying primary and secondary data sources, selecting research instruments, collecting data through interviews, observation, and literature studies, followed by data analysis and presentation of findings. Yoga Bhuwana Prawerti, often referred to as the "Yoga of the Universe's Rotation," is a form of yoga developed at Pasraman Seruling Dewata, consisting of six movements, each beginning with a prayer. Each movement in Yoga Bhuwana Prawerti holds profound religious symbolism in the context of Hinduism. Hindu theology in Yoga Bhuwana Prawerti is reflected in the relationship between humans and nature. The practice of Yoga Bhuwana Prawerti demonstrates Hindu theological principles, such as the concept of Dharma. This yoga aims not only to achieve physical and mental balance but also to deepen the understanding of humanity's place in the spiritual cycle.

Abstract

One form or manifestation of the art of the saint is the Sidhakarya Mask Dance. This dance is performed in every large-scale yadnya ceremony. This dance is a representation of Brahmana Keling in the story of the Babad Dalem Waturenggong. One of the areas in Bali that performs this dance is the Padangtegal Traditional Village. In the Padangtegal Traditional Village, in every implementation of the Piodalan Agung ceremony at the Pura Dalem Agung Padangtegal, a sacred mask or Sidhakarya tapakan is danced. In its performance, the dance contains sayings or sentences in the Kawi language spoken by the dancer. The problems that can be formulated in this study are: (1) what is the meaning of the sidhakarya mask sayings?, (2) what concepts are contained in the sidhakarya mask sayings and (3) how is the existence of the sidhakarya mask sayings in terms of situation, time and environment?, In this paper, the theory of meaning is used to dissect the formulation of the problem in this study. The methods used in this study are observation, interviews and literature studies. The data was then analyzed using data reduction, data presentation and conclusion drawing methods. The results obtained from this paper are that the sayings of the Sidhakarya mask in Pura Dalem Agung Padangtegal are an introduction to the offerings of the Piodalan Agung ceremony and complement all its shortcomings. The sayings of the sidakarya also contain concepts of Hindu philosophy. The concepts contained in it are the concepts of Nirguna and Saguna Brahman, the concept of Siwa Sidhanta and the concept of Tantra, and the existence of the sayings of the sidhakarya mask is supported by the aspects of desa kala and patra as determinants of the sacred or profane of an art form.

Abstract

Bali ranks third with the most suicide cases in Indonesia with 638 cases, following Central Java and East Java. Suicide or often called "ulah pati" is seen as a very reprehensible act because it disrupts the process of karma and reincarnation. This paper uses the theory of religious psychology of K.I. Pargament combined with Ricoeur's Hermeneutics theory. Data are analyzed through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and verification. The results of the analysis are then presented informally. Suicide as a phenomenon is often a reflection of spiritual emptiness, the absence of a deep understanding of the nature of life and religious values that give meaning and direction. Ending life prematurely is considered inappropriate because it inhibits the spiritual process that is truly needed to achieve moksa. The act of suicide not only makes the self (spirit) get the torture of the darkness of hell for 60 thousand years and causes the surrounding environment to become dirty or tired. The impurity of the body for a person who kills himself is not worthy of a cremation ceremony, including the shedding of tears or sprinkling of water that must be offered to the Gods and making people carry the body (suicide corpse) in the cremation must do spiritual self-cleansing through the path of tapta kṛccha vratam and it is considered necessary to make efforts to prevent suicide strategies in the Hindu context.

Abstract

Hinduism figures in Bali are often regarded as role models, sources of inspiration in various religious activities, advisors in decision-making processes, as well as guides who lead the community toward a better path (gurus). This condition reflects the high expectations placed on religious figures. Moreover, individuals who are in the process of seeking a spiritual teacher are vulnerable to manipulation or even misguidance due to certain illegitimate religious figures (false gurus) who lack competence but have already begun guiding followers. This phenomenon underscores the critical importance of Hinduism leaders possessing high moral and spiritual integrity. This research aims to examine the forms of integrity among Hinduism figures in the Kapal Traditional Village, analyze their roles, and assess the implications for the development of Kapal Traditional Village in Badung Regency. The research is framed by three problem formulations: (1) What is the form of integrity demonstrated by Hinduism figures in the Kapal Traditional Village, Badung Regency? (2) What are the roles of Hinduism figures in the Kapal Traditional Village, Badung Regency? (3) What are the implications of the integrity of Hinduism figures in the Kapal Traditional Village for the progress of the village? This qualitative study uses data collected from interviews, observations, document analysis, and literature reviews, applying theories of religion, social role theory, and value theory. The study found that the attitudes and behaviors of Hinduism figures in Kapal Traditional Village, especially in terms of honesty and transparency, are exemplary. These figures consistently practice Hindu values in their daily lives, serve as role models for the local community, and are always willing to dedicate their time to offer guidance, provide explanations about rituals (upakara), and lead the community toward a closer relationship with God through meditation. The study also revealed that Hinduism figures in Kapal Traditional Village play psychological, religious-spiritual, and socio-cultural roles. Furthermore, the integrity of these figures aligns with several key values in Schwartz’s theory, particularly in the areas of Tradition, Conformity, Benevolence, Universalism, Self-Direction, Security, and Stimulation.
