Abstract

Rapid technological advances coupled with high mobile connectivity have driven an increase in social media usage, particularly among students. This is because students are in the emerging adulthood phase, a transitional phase from late adolescence to early adulthood, during which social media is often used to support developmental tasks. However, intensive social media use also poses risks to mental health, one of which is the emergence of the phenomenon known as fear of missing out (FoMO). FoMO drives the urge to stay constantly connected to social media, potentially leading to excessive digital consumption patterns. This study aims to analyze the relationship between fear of missing out (FoMO) and social media engagement among students at Semarang State University as a basis for formulating strategies to optimize social media use and prevent its negative impacts. This study used a quantitative approach with a correlational research design, and the data analysis technique used was simple linear regression. The population in this study consisted of 375 students selected using proportional stratified random sampling. The instruments used included the Fear of Missing Out Scale: FoMOs and the Social Media Engagement Scale for Adolescents (SMES-A). Data analysis revealed a positive correlation between fear of missing out and social media engagement, with values of R = 0.952, R² = 0.907, and B = 0.721. These results indicate that an increase in fear of missing out influences students' social media engagement. This finding underscores the importance of interventions that promote healthy and proportional use of social media.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) model integrated with Virtual Field Trips (VFT) and multimedia, as well as to explore its impact on student motivation and learning outcomes in the Islamic Cultural History (SKI) subject at MAN Landak. This research employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive case study design. Data collection techniques include participant observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation studies, which were then analyzed using the interactive model by Miles, Huberman, and Saldana, and validated through source and technique triangulation. The results indicate a fundamental transformation from a conventional learning pattern to a constructivist pattern that positions students as active subjects. The dynamics of student learning activities consistently increased from the moderate category (score 2.8) in the first meeting to the very good category (score 3.7) in the final meeting. Additionally, the average motivation score increased by 1.2 points, with the highest increase observed in the curiosity aspect, and student learning outcomes experienced a significant improvement, where the "Very Good" grade category rose from 5% to 35%. In conclusion, the integration of CTL and VFT is proven to be valid and effective as a pedagogical solution to overcome learning boredom, enhance historical literacy, and significantly improve student academic achievement.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the direct and indirect relationships between principals’ instructional leadership, job satisfaction, work commitment, and teacher performance in public elementary schools in North Banjarmasin District, Banjarmasin City. The research employed a cross-sectional design using a path analysis model to examine the relationships among variables. The population consisted of 309 teachers from 27 public elementary schools in the district. Using the probability simple random sampling technique, 174 teachers were selected as research respondents. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive statistics, classical assumption tests, hypothesis testing, and path analysis. The results indicate that all research variables are categorized as high. The regression coefficient values show strong relationships among variables, including instructional leadership and teacher performance (0.825), job satisfaction and teacher performance (0.829), work commitment and teacher performance (0.816), instructional leadership and work commitment (0.783), and job satisfaction and work commitment (0.486). The analysis also reveals indirect relationships, where instructional leadership influences teacher performance through work commitment (0.337) and job satisfaction affects teacher performance through work commitment (0.3691). These findings demonstrate that principals’ instructional leadership, teachers’ job satisfaction, and work commitment significantly contribute to improving teacher performance, both directly and indirectly. The study suggests that school principals should continue strengthening instructional leadership practices, particularly by enhancing interaction with teachers and providing opportunities for professional development and training. Meanwhile, teachers are encouraged to continuously improve their performance by applying effective teaching strategies and comprehensive assessment methods that evaluate not only students’ cognitive achievements but also their behavioral and moral development, supporting overall student success in the contemporary learning environment.

Abstract

Career readiness has become a critical issue in the global era; however, there is still a lack of research that specifically focuses on the context of urban students who face unique social, economic, and educational dynamics compared to students in other regions. This study aims to identify the determining factors of career readiness, evaluate the effectiveness of career guidance services, and examine the role of school counselors (BK teachers) in enhancing the career readiness of urban students. The method employed is a Systematic Literature Review (SLR), analyzing 20 relevant scientific publications using the PRISMA protocol. The results indicate that internal determinants of career readiness include interest, self-efficacy, motivation, discipline, career expectations, and future orientation. External factors encompass internship experiences, industrial work practices, career guidance services, the role of BK teachers, and access to labor market information. The effectiveness of career guidance services lies in preventive and responsive interventions, supported by the role of BK teachers as facilitators who provide access to real-world experiences and strategic networks with industry and educational institutions to strengthen career readiness. This study recommends that BK teachers implement digital media-based modeling techniques in group guidance services. Future research is encouraged to utilize qualitative and quantitative methods to further explore the determinants of career readiness and the effectiveness of career guidance services for urban students.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the application of Cognitive Behavioral Counseling with Cognitive Restructuring Techniques in increasing students' confidence in public speaking at SMA Negeri 12 Luwu Timur. Specifically, this research sought to understand the overview of students' confidence before and after the intervention, as well as how the cognitive behavioral counseling with cognitive restructuring techniques was implemented. A quantitative approach with a Quasi-experimental design model and a nonequivalent control group design was used in this study. The research population consisted of 71 ninth-grade students, with a sample of 20 students divided into an experimental group and a control group, each comprising 10 students, selected through proportional random sampling. Data were collected using public speaking confidence scale instruments and observation guidelines, then analyzed using descriptive statistics and the Wilcoxon test. The research results indicate that at the pretest stage, the public speaking confidence level of students in both groups (experimental and control) was in the low category. However, after the intervention, the experimental group's confidence level showed a significant increase, reaching a very high category in the posttest, while the control group remained in the low category. The implementation of Cognitive Behavioral Counseling with Cognitive Restructuring Techniques was carried out through five structured stages: rational treatment, analysis of the counselee's thoughts, introduction and practice of coping thoughts (CT), shifting from negative thoughts to CT, and positive reinforcement and evaluation. Student participation during this process was recorded as high. The significant difference between the two groups indicates that the application of Cognitive Behavioral Counseling with Cognitive Restructuring Techniques is effective in increasing students' confidence in public speaking.
