Abstract

The increasing use of artificial intelligence (AI) in higher education has the potential to influence students’ critical thinking skills. This study aimed to examine the effect of artificial intelligence on the critical thinking skills of students in the Islamic Guidance and Counseling Study Program at Universitas Islam Negeri Sumatera Utara and to compare the tendency of this effect between the 2022 and 2025 cohorts. This study employed a quantitative explanatory design. The population consisted of 114 active students from the 2022 and 2025 cohorts, all of whom were included as respondents using saturated sampling. Data were collected through a four-point Likert-scale questionnaire and analyzed using simple linear regression. The research instrument met the validity criteria and demonstrated very high reliability, with a Cronbach’s alpha value of 0.925. The findings revealed that artificial intelligence had a positive and significant effect on students’ critical thinking skills, with a regression coefficient of 0.526, a t-value of 7.814, and a significance value of 0.000. The coefficient of determination of 0.347 indicated that artificial intelligence explained 34.7% of the variance in students’ critical thinking skills. Cohort-based analysis showed that the effect of AI was stronger among the 2022 cohort (R^2 = 0.243) than the 2025 cohort (R^2 = 0.104). These findings indicate that AI can support critical thinking when it is used actively to explore information, evaluate responses, compare perspectives, and construct arguments. Therefore, AI integration in Islamic Guidance and Counseling learning should be implemented critically, reflectively, ethically, and in ways that preserve students’ independent learning.

Abstract

This study aims to understand emotional dependency in dating relationships and its association with the on-and-off relationship phenomenon among students of Islamic Guidance and Counseling (Bimbingan dan Penyuluhan Islam), cohort 2022. This research employs a qualitative approach with a case study design involving students who have experienced and are currently in on-and-off relationships. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. The findings indicate that partners are perceived as the primary source of emotional support, security, and a place to share problems. Strong emotional attachment makes individuals feel comfortable with their partners, but also leads to anxiety when attention or communication decreases. This condition encourages individuals to maintain the relationship despite frequent conflicts, resulting in an on-and-off relationship pattern. The study shows that emotional dependency plays a role in sustaining unstable relationship dynamics among students.

Abstract

Feelings of insecurity among students are characterized by a sense of insecurity, low self-esteem, and self-doubt, which can hinder academic and professional readiness. Mindfulness is viewed as one of the psychological factors that has the potential to help individuals manage negative self-evaluation in a more adaptive manner. This study aims to analyze the effect of mindfulness on feelings of insecurity among students in the Islamic Counseling and Guidance (BPI) at UIN North Sumatra. This study employs a quantitative approach with a correlational design. The sample consists of 100 BPI students from the 2022–2025 cohorts selected via purposive sampling. Data were collected using a mindfulness scale adapted from the Five-Factor Mindfulness Questionnaire (FFMQ) based on previous research and an insecurity scale whose validity and reliability had been tested, and were then analyzed using simple linear regression with the aid of SPSS version 22. The results of the study indicate that mindfulness has a negative and significant effect on feelings of insecurity (Sig. 0.000 < 0.05) with a regression coefficient of -0.814. The coefficient of determination (R²) value of 0.390 indicates that mindfulness contributes 39% to the variation in students’ feelings of insecurity. This finding suggests that increasing mindfulness has the potential to reduce levels of insecurity and support the academic and professional readiness of BPI students.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the importance of academic supervision as one of the strategies employed by school principals to enhance teachers’ professional competencies, given that supervision practices still tend to be administrative in nature and are not yet fully oriented toward continuous professional development. This study aims to describe and analyze the stages of implementation of school principals’ academic supervision in enhancing teachers’ professional competencies through the aspects of planning, implementation, evaluation, and follow-up of supervision at Madrasah Masanema. The study employs a qualitative approach using a case study design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation with informants comprising the madrasah principal, the curriculum vice principal, senior teachers, and junior teachers. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions, while data validity was tested through triangulation of sources and techniques. The results of the study indicate that academic supervision is implemented through systematic planning, implementation based on authentic observation—including the review of teaching materials and direct classroom observation—team-based evaluation, and follow-up tailored to teachers’ needs through training, mentoring, and reflective discussions. This study concludes that academic supervision based on authentic observation is capable of continuously improving teachers’ professional competencies and has the potential to become an effective professional development model for improving the quality of learning in Madrasah.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of the Islamic Education Subject Teacher Consultative Forum (MGMP PAI) in enhancing teacher competencies at SMA Syarif Hidayatullah Cirebon. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The informants comprised five participants, including three core administrators and two active MGMP PAI members. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that MGMP PAI plays a strategic role in improving teachers' four core competencies—pedagogical, professional, social, and personality. This enhancement is achieved through various collaborative programs such as workshops, scientific discussions, lesson plan development, and evaluation training. The success of these programs is supported by strong member commitment, government policies, and institutional backing. However, several significant obstacles persist, including time constraints, funding limitations, and technological gaps among teachers. In conclusion, MGMP PAI serves as an effective and strategic platform for the continuous professional development of senior high school PAI teachers, although it requires enhanced active participation and technological adaptation for more optimal outcomes.

Abstract

This study analyzes the effectiveness of using block coding–based instructional videos to enhance the understanding of basic mathematical concepts among early childhood learners at KB Lestari. Employing a quantitative experimental approach with a pre-test and post-test control group design, the research integrates findings from national and international literature on coding videos, computational thinking, and the Indonesian Kurikulum Merdeka for early childhood education. Results indicate that the visual-logical animations of Scratch Jr. significantly facilitate the introduction of numbers, basic operations, and patterns through the transfer of skills from coding logic to real-world applications, with urban teachers’ readiness serving as a key driving factor. The discussion confirms the superiority of this approach compared to traditional memorization methods, framed through Paivio’s dual-coding theory, Piaget’s constructivism, and Wing’s computational thinking. The study recommends a hybrid curriculum model for national replication to strengthen digital literacy in Indonesian early childhood education.

Abstract

Low learning motivation and self-efficacy among students, resulting from the dominance of conventional teaching methods, represent a serious challenge in Islamic elementary education. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of the hypnoteaching method in improving the learning motivation and self-efficacy of fourth-grade students at SD Muhammadiyah Samarinda. The research employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental non-equivalent control group design, involving 106 students from SD Muhammadiyah 2 and SD Muhammadiyah 5 Samarinda selected through cluster random sampling. Data were collected through questionnaires, observations, and documentation, then analyzed using independent sample t-tests, N-Gain Score, and effect size (Cohen's d). The results demonstrate that hypnoteaching effectively enhances learning motivation with a medium effect size (Cohen's d = 0.576) and substantially improves self-efficacy with a large effect size (Cohen's d = 0.914). However, the N-Gain Score values for both variables remain low (16.55% and 14.15%), indicating the need for extended intervention duration and intensity. These findings imply that hypnoteaching is worthy of broad implementation as a psychologically responsive innovative learning strategy within Islamic elementary education contexts.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the educational concepts presented in Taisir al-Karim ar-Rahman, the Qur’anic exegesis of Shaykh Abdurrahman bin Nasir As-Sa’di, and to examine their relevance to strengthening the synergy between parents and educators in Islamic Religious Education (PAI). The study is motivated by the insufficient integration of Islamic values between home and school environments, which often results in discontinuity in students’ religious internalization. Employing a qualitative approach through library research, this study examines As-Sa’di’s exegetical ideas and supports them with empirical studies on family–school collaboration. The findings indicate that As-Sa’di emphasizes two foundational pillars of Islamic education: the family as the primary institution responsible for instilling faith and moral character, and the educator as the guide who reinforces religious knowledge and teaches with wisdom. The synergy between these two pillars is viewed as a critical prerequisite for the success of Islamic education, particularly in curricula that balance the components of faith, worship, ethics, and social conduct. This study concludes that the synergy model derived from As-Sa’di’s tafsir offers a strong normative framework for developing holistic and character-oriented Islamic education.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the integration of educational concepts in Tafsir Al-Manar with reference to Surah Al-Baqarah verses 30–32 and to explore their implications for the development of a love-based curriculum. These verses contain fundamental educational values concerning the creation of humankind as khalifah (vicegerent) on earth, the process of imparting knowledge, and the acknowledgment of human limitations before the Creator. This study employed a qualitative method using a library research approach. Data were collected from primary sources, namely Tafsir Al-Manar and the Qur'an, particularly Surah Al-Baqarah verses 30–32, as well as secondary sources, including theses, books, and scholarly journal articles related to Islamic education, educational exegesis, and love-based curriculum. The findings reveal that the integration of educational concepts in Tafsir Al-Manar concerning Surah Al-Baqarah verses 30–32 has four major implications for the development of a love-based curriculum. First, it emphasizes the spiritual dimension as the foundation of education. Second, it promotes the balanced development of reason and knowledge. Third, it fosters the formation of moral and spiritual character. Fourth, it strengthens harmonious relationships among human beings and with the environment. The love-based curriculum derived from the perspective of Tafsir Al-Manar integrates love for Allah, love for knowledge, love for fellow human beings, and love for the natural environment as the foundational principles of a holistic educational process.

Abstract

Digital transformation has significantly shifted how learners access and internalize religious values, requiring innovative approaches to Islamic Religious Education (PAI). This study analyzes the concepts of īman and taqwa in Tafsir Jalalain and formulates a value internalization model contextualized for PAI learning in the digital era. Using qualitative library research supported by limited field observation, this study examines Jalalain’s interpretation of selected Qur’anic verses and synthesizes contemporary Islamic education literature. Findings indicate that Jalalain emphasizes faith in the unseen, discipline in worship, self-control, and moral habituation. These principles are adapted into a digital learning framework through multimedia-based tadabbur, Qur’anic admonition, digital role modeling, application-based worship habituation, and electronic self-reflection. The study proposes the “I-Taqwa Jalalain Model” as an integrative strategy for internalizing Islamic values through technology-enhanced learning. This model strengthens the pedagogic relevance of classical tafsir in shaping student religiosity within modern technological ecosystems.
