Abstract

Speech is the main means of conveying the purpose and purpose of the conversation, which is manifested through speech according to the context. This study aims to (1) identify assertive speech actions in the "Pragmatic" playlist video on the Virtual Campus YouTube channel, and (2) explain the intent of the speech functions. The research method uses a qualitative descriptive approach with pragmatic theory, especially the act of assertive illocution. Data is collected through the technique of watching and recording by watching, transcribing, analyzing, classifying, and identifying speech. Analysis was carried out on six videos in the playlist, with the results finding 96 data on assertive speech actions. The findings were dominated by assertive speech actions stating (33 data), followed by justifying (19 data), and estimating (7 data). The results of the study showed that pragmatic learning videos used more assertive speech to express opinions, making it easier for students to understand the explanations given. The use of assertive speech also strengthens students' belief that explanations are based on the speaker's thoughts with relevant theoretical references. This research is expected to increase public understanding of the role of assertive speech in learning communication.

Abstract

This research discusses the main problem in the form of directive speech acts. Directive speech acts as an incentive for the listener to perform the action intended by the speaker. Language is a means of communication between members of society in the form of sound symbols produced by the human speech organs. Communication is not only about speaking and writing; it also includes body language, facial expressions, and even modern media such as text messages and social media. Therefore, this research will discuss one study of pragmatics, namely speech acts. Many actions can implement direct speech acts, one of which is in the activity of preaching. This research aims to determine the function of speech used by the Ustaz in preaching. The research method used is qualitative with descriptive methods and uses the technique of listening and taking notes in data collection and uses contextual data analysis techniques. The results of the study indicate that the Ustaz uses several directive speech acts with his listeners. The functions of the utterances spoken were ordering 8, commanding 6, inviting 9, suggesting 12, asking 20, requesting 9, and prohibiting 7. The dominant form of speech was asking 20 questions. Through this research, the public is expected to understand how language strategies (especially directive speech acts) are used by speakers or preachers to convey messages that are more persuasive and more easily accepted, especially within the local community.

Abstract

Management psychology in education has become a crucial issue with the growing need for effective learning management that focuses on individual behavior. This approach focuses not only on the technical aspects of management but also on understanding the psychology of students and educators. This study aims to examine the role of management psychology in improving learning effectiveness and the performance of educational organizations, as well as answering the research question of how the implementation of management psychology contributes to educational quality. The method used was a qualitative literature review using the Google Scholar and Publish or Perish databases with the keyword "Management Psychology." From the initial 30 articles, 27 relevant articles were identified and selected into five main articles for analysis. The results revealed three main themes: the basic concepts of management psychology in education, the role of leadership, motivation, and communication, and implementation in improving educational and organizational quality. The findings indicate that management psychology contributes significantly to creating a conducive learning environment, improving performance, and addressing organizational change. Future research is recommended to examine the implementation of management psychology more broadly with an empirical approach in various educational contexts.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effect of a proposed training curriculum using functional training exercises on developing selected physical, skill, and cardiovascular functional abilities in basketball players aged 17–18 years. The sample consisted of 15 club players following the 2023/2024 season. An exploratory experiment was conducted on 5 players to establish the scientific basis of the tests, while the main experiment involved 10 players using a one-group experimental design with pre- and post-tests. The researcher designed and implemented a functional training-based curriculum tailored to the experimental group. Results showed significant improvements in all studied variables in favor of the post-test. Physical abilities improved notably, with arm speed-strength increasing by 35.45% and leg speed-strength by 43.84%. Skill performance also showed progress, with chest pass improving by 41.44% and layup shooting by 47.09%. In terms of cardiovascular function, heart rate (H.R.) improved by 24.50%, and stroke volume (S.V.) increased by 27.69%. These findings indicate that functional training exercises effectively enhance physical fitness, basketball skills, and cardiovascular efficiency in young players.
