Abstract

This study was made aims to: (1) Describe the development of smart reading board learning media for students reading skills (2) Describe the validation of smart reading board learning media for students reading skills (3) Describing the effectiveness of smart reading board media as learning media for student reading skills.The study uses the ADDIE development model with 5 stages, namely: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation. This research was conducted at UPT SD Negeri 260 Gresik in even semester 2. The subject in this study was 1 class 15 students. This study uses data collection techniques in the form of a media questionnaire, student response validation questionnaire, reading ability and interview test sheet.The results of the research conducted are (1) Smart reading board learning media for students’ reading skills using the ADDIE development model, (2) Valuation and smart reading board learning media get a percentage of 90% by the validator of media experts, get a score of 100% by the validator of the material expert, and get percentage of 80,56 from response of students. Both of them get very good criteria, meaning extraordionary achievements, there are no shortscomings and are very satisfying. For the results of the reading skill test sheet get a percentage of 93,33% where 14 of 15 students are declared complete with KKM>75%.

Abstract

The issue of drug abuse and the rise of online gambling have become serious threats that significantly affect the social, economic, and health aspects of society. Huta Lombang Village, located in Puncak Sorik Marapi District, is one of the areas vulnerable to these problems, particularly among the younger generation. This educational program aims to provide awareness to the community regarding the dangers of drugs and online gambling, as well as to instill the importance of early prevention. The methods applied include counseling sessions, interactive discussions, and the use of educational media. The results indicate an increase in community knowledge about the negative impacts of drugs and online gambling, along with the emergence of a shared commitment to create a healthy, productive, and drug-free village environment. Such educational initiatives are expected to serve as strategic measures to protect communities from the growing threats of drugs and online gambling.

Abstract

The use of mobile phones among students has increased significantly in line with the rapid development of information and communication technology. This phenomenon provides positive impacts in terms of easier access to information and learning resources, but it also brings negative consequences such as distractions that may reduce students’ learning concentration. This study aims to investigate the influence of mobile phone usage on students’ concentration and learning outcomes at vocational high schools. A quantitative approach with a correlational design was employed, involving 60 respondents from twelfth-grade students selected through purposive sampling. The research instruments consisted of a questionnaire measuring the intensity and patterns of mobile phone usage, as well as a learning achievement test to assess students’ academic performance. Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression to determine both partial and simultaneous relationships among variables. The results indicate that mobile phone usage has a significant influence on learning concentration, which subsequently affects students’ academic performance. The findings show that higher intensity of mobile phone use for non-academic activities, such as social media, gaming, and online entertainment, tends to decrease students’ focus, thereby lowering their academic achievement. Conversely, the use of mobile phones for academic purposes, such as searching for references, accessing learning materials, and communicating in study groups, can support the learning process. Thus, mobile phones play a dual role, functioning either as a facilitator or as a barrier to learning, depending on the usage patterns.

Abstract

The development of digital technology has brought significant changes in the field of education, particularly in Indonesia, including in the teaching of Islamic Religious Education (PAI). Teachers are required to adapt by utilizing digital media so that the learning process becomes more effective, engaging, and aligned with the needs and characteristics of Generation Z students. This study aims to present the use of digital media in improving the effectiveness of PAI learning for students at SMA Islam Plus Adzkia Medan. The research method employed is descriptive qualitative, using data collection techniques such as observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings of this study indicate that the use of digital media, such as interactive presentations for students, visually appealing learning videos, and digital platforms, can enhance student motivation, participation, and comprehension of PAI material delivered by teachers. Digital media also helps teachers deliver content in a more structured, clear, and accessible manner for students. However, despite its advantages, digital media is not without challenges, such as limited internet access and a lack of digital skills among some students. Overall, the use of digital media provides a positive impact on the effectiveness of PAI learning at SMA Islam Plus Adzkia Medan and therefore needs to be optimized through teacher training, improvement of school facilities, and strengthening students’ digital literacy.

Abstract

Moral education is an essential aspect of shaping students’ character, particularly in fostering tolerance within diverse school environments. However, existing teaching materials tend to be theoretical and provide limited opportunities for students to internalize moral values in real life. This study aims to develop a moral education learning module to enhance students’ tolerance at SMAS An-Nizam Islamic Boarding School. The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) method using a simplified Borg & Gall model, which included needs analysis, design, expert validation, limited trials, and revision. The results show that the developed module is based on a contextual-humanistic approach and integrates methods such as discussion, case studies, reflection, and creative projects. Limited trials indicated an improvement in students’ tolerance, reflected in their ability to collaborate, respect differing opinions, and demonstrate commendable moral behavior in social interactions. The findings imply that the developed moral education module can serve as an alternative teaching material to foster tolerance among students in Islamic boarding schools.

Abstract

The Islamic boarding school culture at Al-Mubtadi-ien Bahrul Ulum Islamic Boarding School has proven effective in maintaining and shaping the moral values of the community through consistently implemented traditional practices. The results of qualitative research indicate that the implementation of congregational prayer, sorogan, talaman, and ta‘ziran contributes significantly to the formation of discipline, social solidarity, and moral character among students. These practices represent the integration of spiritual, intellectual, and social education in response to the phenomenon of moral degradation in modern society. The point-based ta‘ziran system has empirically been shown to reduce the level of violations and increase students’ sense of responsibility. The findings of this study complement studies in Islamic education by presenting an empirical analysis of the ability of Islamic boarding schools to adapt to the challenges of globalization. Furthermore, this Islamic boarding school education model enriches the philosophical perspective of character education based on virtue ethics and Islamic values. Therefore, Islamic boarding school administrators are advised to strengthen the integration between tradition and modernity to maintain the relevance of Islamic boarding school institutions in the future. The results of this study also have the potential to serve as a reference in the formulation of national education policies oriented toward the preservation of cultural values.

Abstract

This article presents a historical review of the development of the education curriculum in Indonesia, from the colonial era to contemporary reforms. The discussion highlights major curriculum changes that have shaped the national education system, beginning with post-independence curricula and continuing through reforms designed to respond to political, social, and economic developments. The 1947 Curriculum and the 1968 Curriculum are identified as important milestones in strengthening national identity, promoting unity, and supporting national development goals. The article also explains how global educational paradigms and local socio-cultural contexts have influenced curriculum design in Indonesia. These influences are reflected in the growing emphasis on character education, critical thinking skills, vocational competencies, and the holistic development of students. Recent curriculum reforms, such as the 2013 Curriculum and the Merdeka Curriculum, aim to create more student-centered learning, provide greater flexibility in the learning process, encourage independent learning, and support the development of 21st-century skills. However, the implementation of these reforms continues to face several challenges, including regional disparities, unequal access to educational resources, and limitations in teacher readiness and professional development. These issues affect the effectiveness of curriculum implementation across various educational contexts in Indonesia. The article concludes that future curriculum development should prioritize inclusiveness, adaptability, sustainability, and technological integration to address the evolving demands of society and improve the quality of national education.

Abstract

This study examines illocutionary speech acts in geography learning on the Ruangguru YouTube channel, which has grown into one of the most popular online learning environments in Indonesia. The background of this study is the increasing use of digital media in the learning process, which requires teachers to develop effective communication strategies so that the material can be well understood by students. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach that combines listening and note-taking methods. The research data consists of three videos on geography education: Definition of Geography, Geographical Conditions of the Asian Continent, and Concepts of Regions and Spatial Planning. Five categories of illocutionary speech acts, assertive, directive, expressive, commissive, and declarative, are clearly visible in the analysis based on Searle's (1975) classification. The most common category consists of assertive, followed by directive and expressive, while declarative and commissive are less dominant. Each type of speech act has a communicative purpose in the learning process by conveying information, encouraging involvement, expressing feelings, making promises, and establishing truth. The study's results indicate that illocutionary speech acts are crucial to creating engaging, interactive online learning. Practically, this research helps teachers and digital content creators improve communication strategies in online classes, while theoretically advancing pragmatic studies in the context of digital education.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the forms and meanings of directive speech acts used by Ustaz Adi Hidayat in his sermon, titled “Faith and Piety,” on the YouTube channel Adi Hidayat Official. The research employs a pragmatic approach with a descriptive qualitative method. Data were obtained through observation and note-taking techniques from three sermon videos, which were analyzed based on the theory of directive speech acts. The study’s results identified 25 directive utterances, comprising six types: challenges (2 utterances), commands (10 utterances), offers (3 utterances), suggestions (6 utterances), requests (2 utterances), and orders (2 utterances). Each type of directive speech act serves a distinct communicative function; however, in general, these utterances aim to influence the audience to act in accordance with Islamic teachings. Ustaz Adi Hidayat employs polite, logical, and persuasive language in his sermons, ensuring that the religious messages are conveyed effectively. This study contributes to the development of pragmatic studies, particularly in understanding language use within the context of Islamic preaching.

Abstract

Podcasts have become one of the fastest-growing forms of digital media in the modern communication era due to their persuasive and easily accessible nature. The Mindset podcast on the YouTube channel SUARA BERKELAS presents various motivational utterances that are interesting to analyze from a pragmatic perspective, particularly in the form of directive speech acts. This study aims to describe the types of directive speech acts found in the Mindset podcast, analyze the linguistic strategies employed by the speakers, and examine their communicative implications for the audience. The research employed a qualitative approach with pragmatic analysis through stages of transcription, classification, and contextual interpretation. Data were obtained from selected episodes using purposive sampling and analyzed using Austin’s (1975) and Searle’s (1969) speech act theories. The findings revealed nine types of directive speech acts commands, invitations, suggestions, appeals, prohibitions, persuasion, urgings, requests, and instructions with commands and invitations as the most dominant. These results indicate that the podcast serves as a motivational medium that not only conveys information but also encourages listener participation through persuasive linguistic strategies. This research contributes to the development of pragmatic studies in digital media and provides insights for content creators and communication practitioners in designing more engaging and inspiring messages.
