Abstract

Purse seine is a tool (gear) used to catch pelagic fish that form a swarm. As with other fishing gear, a purse seine unit consists of a net, a boat, and auxiliary equipment (rollers, lights, echosounders, and so on). Purse seine is a fishing gear classified in the surrounding net group. Purse seine is also known as a ring trawl because it is equipped with a ring that is used as a place to attach the coloring rope which is very important during the operation of the net. Because the net that was originally bagless will form a pocket at the end of the capture operation. The ring trawl itself has a different name in each region in Indonesia, in North Sulawesi it is known as soma pajeko. There are three technical factors that need to be considered for the success of ring trawl fishing, namely: (1) circular speed, (2) speed and depth of sinking ballast rope, and (3) speed of pulling the choir ropeThe speed of sinking is largely determined by the ballast, the type of material, the size of the thread and the size of the net bit, as well as the ratio of the length of the float rope and the ballast rope. The sinking speed of the ballast rope is calculated based on the relationship between the depth and the sinking time of the ballast rope needed. The speed of the ballast can be increased by increasing the weight of the ballast, but it must be considered because it will increase the tension of the net. Ballast weight per meter ballast ropeBut it should be considered because it will add tension to the net. Greater ballast weight per meter ballast rope will add greater sinking speed. The method used in this study is an experimental method, which is a study that looks for the influence of certain variables on other variables under tightly controlled conditions. The analysis in this study consisted of 4 net models with different slope percentages, namely 57%, 75%, 100% and 125% slopes. The results of the analysis showed that the more tilted the wing with a slope of 57%, 75% and 100%, the more the sinking rate of the ballast rope but for a slope of 125% it does not contribute to the speed of sinking 57% slope at a depth of 5.5 meters the required time is 16.37 seconds, 75% slope at a depth of 5.5 meters is 15.16 seconds, 100% slope at a depth of 5.5 meters the time required is 19.84 seconds and 125% slope the time required at a depth of 5.5 meters is 19.88 seconds. The best sinking speed of the four net models that have been made based on existing data is at 75% slope.

Abstract

The objective of this study is to ascertain the differences in catches of octopus fishing, as well as to determine the productivity of octopus fishing gear using bole-bole and pocong-pocong. This research was conducted in October and November 2023 in the waters of Langkai Island and Lanjukang Island, Makassar City. The methodology employed in this research is a case study. Primary data were collected directly by following, recording, and identifying the number of catches, the size of the catch, and the length of time to operate the fishing gear. The data were then analysed using the T-test to determine the difference in catches on octopus fishing rods using bole-bole and pocong-pocong. The results of the study during 31 trips yielded a total of 92 fish. The catch of pocong-pocong is more likely to result in the capture of an octopus, with a value of 59% of octopus caught compared to bole-bole, which is 41% of the total hauling of 218 times. The pocong-pocong had a higher productivity with an average value of 57.81 grams per minute compared to bole-bole with an average value of 47.29 grams per minute during 31 fishing trips. The results of the statistical analysis using the T-test demonstrated that there were differences in the catches between the two fishing gears. The pocong-pocong had a higher catch than bole-bole.

Abstract

Pearl oyster cultivation is a growing industry in various countries. The growth and quality of pearls produced by oysters is greatly influenced by the cultivation method used. This research aims to compare the growth of pearl oysters (Pinctada maxima) cultivated using the floating cage and longline methods. Different cultivation methods can influence the growth of pearl oysters and the surrounding environmental conditions. Statistical analysis was conducted on sample size, mean values, standard deviation, and standard error of the mean for both cultivation methods. The results indicate no significant difference in the growth of pearl oysters between the floating cage and longline methods. However, biofouling and other disrupting organisms can affect the growth of pearl oysters in the floating cage method. The study also highlights the importance of environmental factors such as water quality, temperature, and food availability in influencing the growth of pearl oysters. Thus, this research provides valuable insights for the pearl oyster cultivation industry in selecting the optimal cultivation method to enhance productivity and the quality of the pearls produced.

Abstract

One of the fishing gears that is widely used by fishermen in Dulabetawi village, Difur Beach, Tual City is basic gill net fishing gear and generally uses mesh sizes of 2.5 inches and 1 inch. The aim of this research is to determine the effect of different mesh sizes on the quantity, species composition and size of fish caught with bottom gill nets in the waters of Dulabetawi, Difur Beach. The method used for this research was experimental fishing with 10 operations (trips), namely in the morning and at dusk with a net soaking time of 2-4 hours. The catch data obtained was analyzed using a paired sample t test to determine the effect of using different mesh sizes. varies with weight (grams) and number of fish caught. The results of the paired sample t-test show that the weight (grams) of the total catch is 0.041, which is smaller than 0.05 and for a total of 0.000, it is smaller than 0.05, which means there is a real difference in the use of different mesh sizes on weight ( grams) and the number (heads) of the catch, where the total weight of the catch at a mesh size of 2.5 inches is 40,359 grams and the number of 149 fish is greater than the 1 inch size of 85 fish and a weight of 25,735 grams, which means hypothesis H1 is accepted Hₒ rejected.

Abstract

Gracilaria verrucosa is a kind of seaweed with significant potential for pond culture, particularly among farmers, since it serves as the primary source of agar production, which is experiencing rising demand. Nonetheless, pond output remains insufficient to satisfy market demands, necessitating innovation in cultivation methods and enhanced production efficiency. The researcher intends to assess the efficacy of various stocking densities in an extended polyculture system on the growth and quality of agar production from Gracilaria verrucosa seaweed. This research employs a quantitative approach utilizing an experimental methodology. This study had a fully randomized design (CRD) with three treatments, each replicated three times. Treatment A (Density 150 g/cm³), Treatment B (Density 200 g/cm³), Treatment C (Density 250 g/cm³). This study method employs a test medium container designed as a net, into which seaweed lips are placed, followed by a 35-day observation of growth. Data analysis was conducted utilizing analysis of variance, succeeded by the Tukey test, with a confidence level of 95% (p<0.05). Varied stocking densities influenced the development of Gracilaria verrucosa, the effectiveness of good stocking density in treatment A (150g) obtained the highest absolute length of 8g for 35 days.

Abstract

The fishing industry is a vital sector for the global economy and food security because this industry plays a role in providing food and economic income for business actors. However, the fishing industry also often faces challenges such as competition to obtain supplies of fresh fish raw materials. The decline in the quality of caught fish is also influenced by handling that does not comply with standards or inadequate storage conditions. The loading capacity of a ship is influenced by the value of the ship's displacement, the ship's dead weight, and the weight of the empty ship. Therefore, this research aims to estimate the value displacement, empty ship weight (Light Weight Ton/LWT), ship dead weight (Dead Weight Tonnage/DWT), and the maximum amount of catch that can be loaded on the ship. Collecting research data by taking ship measurements and interviews. The sampling technique is carried out randomly accidental sampling. The research results show that the Anita Jaya X ship has value displacement amounting to 72.02 tons, empty ship weight (Light Weight Ton/LWT) of 12.15 tons, and ship dead weight (Dead Weight Tonnage/DWT) of 59.87 tons. Therefore, it can be concluded that to avoid a decrease in the quality of caught fish due to mismatches in the loading capacity and hold of caught fish then the Anita Jaya X can load up to 53.71 tons of fish.

Abstract

ABSTRACT The focus of this research is the Main Dimension Characteristics of Purse Seine Vessels based at the Tumumpa Coastal Fishing Port in Manado City, which includes the ratios or comparisons of the vessel's main sizes (LOA/BOA, LOA/D, and BOA/D), the relationships between the main sizes of the vessel (LOA vs BOA, LOA vs D, and BOA vs D), and the relationship of the main size of the vessel (LOA) with the carrying capacity (GT) and engine power (HP).The data analysis method was carried out using descriptive analysis through cross-tabulation and data presentation in the form of a curve of the relationship between the main ship sizes, the relationship between the main ship sizes, and the relationship between the main size of the ship's length (LOA) with load capacity (GT) and propulsion engine power (HP). Data analysis used the 'Curve Expert' application with a mathematical model: (1) the relationship between the main ship sizes using linear regression analysis Y=a+bx, and (2) the relationship between LOA with load capacity (GT) and propulsion engine power using non-linear regression analysis. The results of this study indicate that the comparison of the main dimensions of purse seine vessels in PPP Belang still has vessels that do not comply with the standard values proposed by Fyson (1985). There is a positive relationship between the main dimensions of the vessel (LOA/BOA, LOA/D, BOA/D) and between the main dimensions of the vessel (LOA) with load capacity (GT) and engine power (HP).
