Abstract

Slang is one of the linguistic phenomena that is growing rapidly in the digital era, especially on social media. This research is motivated by the increasing use of slang by social media users from various circles, which is thought to influence their communication patterns. The purpose of this study is to analyze the influence of slang on communication patterns on social media, both in terms of the effectiveness of message delivery, the level of familiarity between users, and the potential for misunderstanding in communication. The research method used was collected through questionnaires distributed to respondents and with a phenomenological approach. The results of the study indicate that slang has a significant impact on communication patterns on social media. Slang can create emotional closeness between users, especially in certain communities, but also has the potential to cause misunderstandings if used outside the context of that community. In addition, excessive use of slang can affect the structure and rules of formal language, especially in the younger generation. Bahasa Slang merupakan salah satu fenomena linguistik yang berkembang pesat di era digital, khususnya di media sosial. Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh meningkatnya penggunaan Bahasa Slang oleh pengguna media sosial dari berbagai kalangan, yang diduga memengaruhi pola komunikasi mereka. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis pengaruh Bahasa Slang terhadap pola komunikasi di media sosial, baik dari segi efektivitas penyampaian pesan, tingkat keakraban antar pengguna, maupun potensi kesalahpahaman dalam komunikasi. Metode penelitian yang digunakan dikumpulkan melalui kuesioner yang disebar kepada responden dan dengan pendekatan fenomenologi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Bahasa Slang memiliki dampak signifikan terhadap pola komunikasi di media sosial. Bahasa Slang mampu menciptakan kedekatan emosional di antara pengguna, terutama dalam komunitas tertentu, namun juga berpotensi menimbulkan kesalahpahaman jika digunakan di luar konteks komunitas tersebut. Selain itu, penggunaan Bahasa Slang secara berlebihan dapat memengaruhi struktur dan kaidah bahasa formal, terutama pada generasi muda.

Abstract

This research explores the reality of slang language use among Generation Z and its implications for the development of modern Indonesian. Slang, which was initially only used in informal contexts, is now an integral element in Generation Z's daily communication. Based on the questionnaire results, the frequency of slang use is very high, with the types of slang dominated by terms from social media, such as “ngab,” “santuy,” or “auto.” Slang is used to create a relaxed atmosphere, show group identity, and increase emotional closeness between users. Nonetheless, the intensity of slang use can pose challenges, such as reduced exposure to standardized language in formal contexts. This study also found that acceptance of slang varies depending on the context of communication, with a tendency for the boundaries between formal and informal language to blur. In the long run, this phenomenon is predicted to enrich the vocabulary of Indonesian while posing a risk to the preservation of linguistic rules. Penelitian ini mengeksplorasi realitas penggunaan bahasa slang di kalangan Generasi Z dan implikasinya terhadap perkembangan bahasa Indonesia modern. Bahasa slang, yang awalnya hanya digunakan dalam konteks informal, kini menjadi elemen integral dalam komunikasi sehari-hari Generasi Z. Berdasarkan hasil kuesioner, frekuensi penggunaan slang sangat tinggi, dengan jenis slang yang didominasi oleh istilah dari media sosial, seperti "ngab," "santuy," atau "auto." Bahasa slang digunakan untuk menciptakan suasana santai, menunjukkan identitas kelompok, dan meningkatkan kedekatan emosional antar pengguna. Meskipun demikian, intensitas penggunaan slang dapat menimbulkan tantangan, seperti berkurangnya eksposur terhadap bahasa baku dalam konteks formal. Studi ini juga menemukan bahwa penerimaan terhadap Bahasa slang bervariasi, bergantung pada konteks komunikasi, dengan kecenderungan adanya kaburnya batas antara bahasa formal dan informal. Dalam jangka panjang, fenomena ini diprediksi akan memperkaya kosakata bahasa Indonesia sekaligus menimbulkan risiko terhadap pelestarian kaidah kebahasaan.

Abstract

The problem addressed in this research is code switching and code mixing in the Daniel Tetangga Kamu Podcast episode featuring Cinta Laura as the guest speaker. This study aims to describe the forms of code switching and code mixing in the Podcast. The method used in this research is a qualitative descriptive method. The data source is taken from the Daniel Mananta’s Podcast The data consists of conversations that involve code switching and code mixing between the interviewer, Daniel Mananta, and the guest speaker, Cinta Laura. The data collection technique used is nonparticipant observation technique followed by note taking. The study of code switching and code mixing includes the forms and factors causing code switching and code mixing. Based on the research findings, there are forms of external code switching. The factors causing code switching include the speaker, interlocutor, and changes in the topic of conversation. The factors influencing code mixing are the speaker's background and language attitudes. Keywords: code switching, code mixing, Daniel Mananta Network, Cinta Laura). Masalah yang dibahas dalam penelitian ini adalah alih kode dan campur kode dalam episode Podcast Daniel Tetangga Kamu yang menampilkan Cinta Laura sebagai pembicara tamu. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan bentuk-bentuk alih kode dan campur kode dalam Podcast tersebut. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode deskriptif kualitatif. Sumber data diambil dari Podcast Daniel Mananta. Data terdiri dari percakapan yang melibatkan alih kode dan campur kode antara pewawancara, Daniel Mananta, dan pembicara tamu, Cinta Laura. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah teknik observasi non partisipan yang diikuti dengan pencatatan. Kajian alih kode dan campur kode mencakup bentuk dan faktor penyebab alih kode dan campur kode. Berdasarkan temuan penelitian, terdapat bentuk-bentuk alih kode eksternal. Faktor-faktor penyebab alih kode meliputi pembicara, lawan bicara, dan perubahan topik pembicaraan. Faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi campur kode adalah latar belakang pembicara dan sikap bahasa.

Abstract

This study examines the use of implicature in the script of the movie Togo, focusing on how implied meanings are conveyed through dialogue and contextual cues. Implicature, a concept rooted in pragmatics, plays a crucial role in shaping character interactions, advancing the plot, and enriching the narrative without explicit statements. By analyzing selected scenes from the movie, this research identifies the types of implicature employed, such as conversational and conventional implicatures, and explores their functions in enhancing emotional depth, humor, and thematic resonance. The findings highlight the significance of implicature in cinematic storytelling, demonstrating how it contributes to audience engagement and interpretation. This study not only sheds light on the linguistic strategies used in Togo but also offers insights into the broader application of implicature in film scripts.

Abstract

This study explores implicature in the song "When Time Stood Still", analyzing how implied meanings contribute to the song’s overall interpretation. Using Grice’s Cooperative Principle and its maxims, the research identifies conversational and conventional implicatures present in the lyrics. The study examines how language, context, and poetic devices shape the intended and inferred meanings beyond the literal text. The findings reveal how implicature enhances emotional depth, conveys hidden messages, and engages listeners in meaning-making. This research contributes to the understanding of linguistic pragmatics in song lyrics, highlighting the role of implicature in artistic expression.

Abstract

This article offers an examination of implicature in the animated feature “Despicable Me 4” (2024), emphasizing how characters communicate meanings that extend beyond the straightforward interpretation of their spoken lines. Employing H.P. Grice’s framework of conversational implicature, the study explores various examples of implicature throughout the film, illustrating how humor, sarcasm, and social interactions are conveyed through indirect means. By scrutinizing pivotal scenes and character exchanges, the research categorizes the types of implicatures utilized, such as generalized and particularized implicatures, and evaluates their influence on character development and the progression of the plot. The results indicate that implicature significantly enhances the film’s comedic aspects and emotional resonance, enriching the overall narrative experience. This analysis not only highlights the critical role of implicature in animated storytelling but also sheds light on the linguistic techniques employed by the filmmakers to captivate audiences across different age groups. From the research, the writers focus on examining 2 types of implicature and get the results of implicaturec data as much as 21 data. Here are the data, 13 conversational implicature and 8 conventional implicature data.

Abstract

This study examines the use of presupposition in the movie Five Feet Apart directed by Justin Baldoni, focusing on its role in enhancing the narrative and character interactions. Presupposition, a linguistic concept that assumes certain information to be true within communication, is analyzed to explore how it contributes to the film’s emotional depth, thematic development, and overall storytelling. The research applies a qualitative approach to identify and categorize the types of presuppositions present, such as existential, lexical, factive, non-factive, structural, and counterfactual. It further investigates how these presuppositions function in the dialogues to convey implicit meanings, reveal character motivations, and foster relational dynamics among the protagonists. The findings highlight that presuppositions are strategically employed to subtly portray themes such as love, illness, resilience, and the boundaries imposed by cystic fibrosis, which the central characters face. By embedding unspoken truths and shared understandings within the conversations, the film effectively engages viewers, making the narrative more relatable and emotionally impactful. This study contributes to the fields of pragmatics and film studies by demonstrating how presupposition can be a powerful tool in cinematic storytelling, enriching both the linguistic and emotional layers of a narrative. It underscores the importance of linguistic analysis in understanding the deeper elements of film communication and the nuanced ways in which language shapes audience perceptions and experiences.

Abstract

In "Mufasa: The Lion King" (2024), the screenplay skillfully utilizes implicature as a crucial element that enhances storytelling and adds depth to the emotional and thematic aspects of movie script. Implicature, a concept introduced by philosopher H. P. Grice, refers to the implied meanings that emerge in conversation, where speakers communicate ideas indirectly, relying on context and shared understanding between characters and the audience.This article delves into how the script of "Mufasa" employs both conversational and conventional implicatures to illuminate the intricacies of Mufasa’s character, particularly his relationships with his brother Scar and his son Simba, as well as broader themes of leadership, responsibility, and legacy. Through subtle and indirect communication, Mufasa conveys vital lessons while navigating his own internal and external conflicts, thus enriching the film's exploration of leadership and personal growth. By examining key dialogues and character interactions, this study underscores the significance of implicature in shaping the audience’s comprehension of character dynamics and the deeper meanings within the narrative. The use of implicature in "Mufasa" not only enhances character development but also engages viewers in an active process of interpretation, inviting them to read between the lines and discover the unspoken teachings woven throughout the dialogue.

Abstract

Advertising media has expanded across various media channels, including television, radio, print, online, and social media. Each channel has its unique dynamics and challenges. An integral part of advertising research is delving into consumer psychology. It investigates how ads affect consumers, influence their decision-making, advertising help capture closer old and new cultural denotation and invest them in consumer goods which can be more accessible to consumers, and trigger emotions or reactions. As in this research, the researcher try to find the meanings of sign through video advertisement. This issue primarily revolves around the utilization of signs, the emergence of images, and the dissemination of information, encompassing meaning and the potential impact of advertising on people's perception Signs in social semiotic terms, In this research, the researcher uses Charles Sanders Peirce’s theory of signs to uncover meanings in signs that included in Colgate video advertisement. In the context of advertising, signs are commonly associated with various displays, often incorporating words and images, to announce the location and nature of businesses, especially in the term of luxury goods for upper middle class, that’s why the researcher expand the broader meaning of semiotics through Thorstein Veblen’s theory of luxury. Media periklanan telah berkembang di berbagai saluran media, termasuk televisi, radio, media cetak, online, dan media sosial. Setiap saluran memiliki dinamika dan tantangan yang unik. Bagian integral dari riset periklanan adalah mempelajari psikologi konsumen. Ini menyelidiki bagaimana iklan mempengaruhi konsumen, mempengaruhi pengambilan keputusan mereka, periklanan membantu mendekatkan denotasi budaya lama dan baru dan menginvestasikannya pada barang-barang konsumsi yang lebih mudah diakses oleh konsumen, dan memicu emosi atau reaksi. Seperti pada penelitian ini, peneliti mencoba mencari makna tanda melalui video iklan. Permasalahan ini terutama berkisar pada pemanfaatan tanda, kemunculan gambar, dan penyebaran informasi, meliputi makna dan potensi dampak iklan terhadap persepsi Masyarakat, serta tanda dalam istilah semiotik sosial. Dalam penelitian ini, peneliti menggunakan teori Charles Sanders Peirce. tanda-tanda untuk mengungkap makna tanda-tanda yang terdapat dalam iklan video Colgate. Dalam konteks periklanan, tanda umumnya diasosiasikan dengan berbagai tampilan, seringkali disertai kata-kata dan gambar, untuk mengumumkan lokasi dan sifat usaha, khususnya dalam hal barang mewah untuk kelas menengah ke atas, oleh karena itu peneliti memperluas makna yang lebih luas dari iklan. semiotika melalui teori kemewahan Thorstein Veblen.

Abstract

This study examines literary works in the form of films via a sociological approach. The purpose of this study is to describe the major characters’ characterizations and define the different kinds of social interactions in Peter Sohn’s 2023 film Elemental: Forces of Nature. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, this study described sources and information as research objects, such as dialogue or transcripts and movie stills. This study made use of Tischler's social interaction theory (Nonverbal Behavioral Interaction, Exchange Interaction, Cooperative Interaction, Conflict Interaction, and Competitive Interaction) as well as Petrie and Boggs' characterization theory (Appearance, Dialogue, External Actions, Reactions from Other Characters). 32 social interaction data points were gathered for this study, which showed how social interactions influenced the main character's description based on her words, actions, and behaviors. First, two data were reflected in characterization through appearance, four data were reflected in characterization through external activities, and three data were reflected in characterization through other characters' reactions in social interactions that took the form of nonverbal behavioral exchange. In addition, social contacts in the form of exchange encounters revealed that two data were represented in characterization through other characters' reactions, four data were reflected in characterization of external activities, and five data were reflected in characterization through dialogue. Subsequently, five data were represented in characterization through external actions, and one data was reflected in characterization through discussion in the form of cooperative social engagement. Lastly, social interactions in the form of conflict interaction revealed two data represented in appearance characterization, three data reflected in dialogue characterization, and one data reflected in other characters' reactions. This investigation did not find any competitive interaction. According to the study's findings, the primary character's characterization varies as a result of the social interactions in its environment.
