Abstract

This community service program focuses on ensuring equal access to education for SBK through the use of advanced technology. The methodology begins with identifying the specific needs of SBK through observation and interviews to understand the challenges they face, followed by collaboration with the school and technology developers to design suitable solutions. Intensive training on Deep Learning (DL) technology and inclusive teaching strategies is provided to SMK-PPI teachers, introducing concepts such as Natural Language Processing (NLP), Generative Pre-trained Transformers (GPT), and image processing to support the learning process. The DL-based learning model is then implemented in classrooms involving SBK, with a focus on personalized learning content and more inclusive teaching methods. Continuous evaluation through data collection from observations, interviews, and surveys demonstrates improvements in student engagement, material accessibility, and learning outcomes for SBK. Based on feedback from both teachers and students, reflections and adjustments are made to ensure the sustainability of this model at SMK-PPI and its potential replication in other schools. This program is expected to make a significant contribution to strengthening inclusive education at SMK-PPI Bandung, ensuring that all students have an equal opportunity to reach their full potential.

Abstract

Household waste management remains a major issue in urban areas, including in North Cimahi District which produces more than 250 tons of waste per day, with organic waste comprising up to 60%. Most of this waste is still disposed of at the overcapacity Leuwigajah landfill, creating serious environmental, health, and social problems. This community service program aims to provide an innovative solution through the transformation of organic waste into Black Soldier Fly (BSF) maggots while empowering youth organizations (Karang Taruna) to enhance economic self-reliance. The program was carried out through coordination, technical training, business management mentoring, the application of appropriate technology (kitchen waste chopper and dried maggot milling machine), as well as product marketing strategies. The results indicate that the partners’ capacity in managing organic waste has significantly improved, producing fresh, dried, and powdered maggot products with higher economic value. Social impact is evident in the active involvement of Karang Taruna members throughout all program stages and the increasing awareness of the local community regarding waste separation. Economic impact is reflected in the establishment of a new maggot-based business unit with potential for additional income. Meanwhile, the environmental impact is demonstrated by the reduction in the volume of organic waste sent to the landfill. In conclusion, community-based BSF maggot cultivation not only addresses household waste problems but also fosters the development of a sustainable circular economy ecosystem. This model has strong potential to be replicated in other areas with similar characteristics as a strategy for waste management and youth empowerment.

Abstract

The problem of waste being dumped into rivers remains a serious environmental issue in Cikembulan Village, Kadungora District, Garut Regency. Lack of public awareness in waste management is the main cause of environmental pollution. Through the UNLA KKNM Group 20 Program, students collaborated with the community of Dusun 2 RW 10 to create the “Waste Incineration Bin” program as a solution to change the community's mindset from the habit of disposing waste into rivers. The program implemented by the UNLA KKNM Group 20 students aims to educate the community about the importance of waste sorting, the use of organic waste as compost for rice fields, and controlled burning for non-recyclable residual waste. The results of this activity show an increase in community awareness of the importance of maintaining environmental cleanliness, as well as a reduction in the volume of waste disposed of in the river. The Waste Incineration Bin Program demonstrates that changes in community behavior can be achieved through a participatory and educational approach that is sustainable.

Abstract

The problem of organic waste in urban areas is increasing with population growth and consumer activity. Suboptimal management has the potential to cause environmental pollution and health problems. This study aims to assess the effectiveness of using Black Soldier Fly (BSF) maggots in reducing the volume of organic waste and producing economically valuable biomass. The research method was conducted through an experimental design with three types of organic waste: vegetables, fruits, and food waste, each with an initial weight of 10 kg. The results showed that maggots were able to reduce organic waste with an average reduction of 65%. Food waste showed the highest reduction of 70% and produced 1,450 grams of maggot biomass, while fruit had the lowest reduction (60%) with a biomass of 1,100 grams. These findings indicate a positive correlation between waste reduction effectiveness and maggot biomass productivity. The results support the notion that maggot-based bioconversion technology can be an alternative solution for organic waste management in urban areas, while supporting the concept of a circular economy and sustainable development.
