Abstract

This article discusses an instructional innovation through the implementation of a peer tutoring model in lower elementary school classrooms. The main objective of this study is to explore how peer tutoring can enhance students' engagement, understanding, and social interaction during the learning process. The research employs a descriptive qualitative approach using observation, teacher interviews, and documentation of learning activities in a second-grade classroom. The findings reveal that students become more enthusiastic, confident in asking questions, and capable of explaining concepts to their peers using simpler and more relatable language. The classroom atmosphere becomes more dynamic, enjoyable, and participatory. Peer tutoring also fosters self-confidence and empathy among students. The novelty of this article lies in its focus on the application of peer tutoring at the early primary level, which is often underestimated in terms of readiness for collaborative learning strategies. In fact, with proper guidance, young learners are able to actively engage in the learning process. Abstract

The integration of adaptive educational technology in teaching students with special needs demands not only pedagogical and technological skills, but also sensitivity to the learners’ unique contexts and classroom environments. This study explores the potential for collaboration between lecturers from the PGSD (Primary School Teacher Education) program at Universitas Muhammadiyah Brebes and teachers at SLB Mutiara Hati in developing technology-based instructional strategies tailored to individual student needs. A qualitative approach with a case study design was employed. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, classroom observations, and documentation of collaborative activities, and analyzed thematically. The findings highlight constructive collaborative opportunities, particularly in knowledge sharing about simple educational technologies, the creation of accessible digital learning media, and the development of individualized instructional planning. However, limitations in infrastructure, restricted interaction time, and the absence of a formal partnership framework present notable challenges. Strengthening inter-institutional collaboration and implementing joint training programs are recommended as sustainable strategies. These initiatives could serve as a foundational step toward building meaningful synergy between mainstream education and special education, contributing to the broader goals of inclusive education in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study explores primary school teachers' perceptions regarding the implementation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in classroom learning in Magelang Regency, Central Java. Employing a qualitative approach with an interpretive phenomenological design, in-depth interviews were conducted with 10 primary school teachers. Thematic analysis revealed four main themes reflecting their perceptions: (1) Initial Understanding of AI, (2) Potential of AI in Enhancing Learning, (3) Challenges of AI Implementation, and (4) Hopes and Support Needs. The findings indicate that teachers' understanding of AI is largely basic, predominantly derived from social media and popular applications rather than formal pedagogical training. Nevertheless, they expressed significant enthusiasm for AI's potential to personalize learning, provide interactive learning media, and enhance assessment efficiency. However, this enthusiasm is tempered by substantial implementation challenges, particularly limited infrastructure and inconsistent internet access (90% of teachers), alongside a universal lack of adequate pedagogical AI training (100% of teachers). Concerns about AI software costs, availability, and data ethics also surfaced. To optimize AI utilization, teachers strongly desire comprehensive and continuous practical training, provision of adequate infrastructure and resources, clear AI curriculum development guidelines, and the establishment of professional learning communities. This study underscores the urgent need for holistic support to prepare primary school teachers for an AI-supported educational era.

Abstract

Inclusive education aims to provide equal opportunities for all children, including those with special needs, to participate in the same educational environment. In Indonesia, the implementation of inclusive education in primary schools, such as SDN Tunjung 1 Bangkalan, is crucial due to the increasing number of children with special needs requiring attention in the learning process. This study aims to analyze the practices of inclusive education at SDN Tunjung 1 Bangkalan and provide recommendations for improvement applicable to other schools. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through interviews with special needs teachers, classroom observations, and document analysis. The findings reveal that while SDN Tunjung 1 Bangkalan has made strides in inclusive education, challenges such as social stigma and inadequate parental acknowledgment of children's conditions persist. Effective collaboration between the school and parents is essential in fostering a supportive learning environment. This research underscores the need for further studies on social aspects influencing the acceptance of inclusive education and suggests developing training programs for teachers to enhance their readiness in managing inclusive classrooms.

Abstract

Contextual problems are essential in mathematics education as they help students connect abstract concepts to real-life situations. However, observations at UPTD SDN Keleyan 1 revealed that sixth-grade students struggled to solve contextual problems related to unit conversions, with an average pre-cycle score of only 23.85. This study aimed to improve students’ ability to solve contextual mathematical problems through the implementation of the drill method combined with immediate feedback. This classroom action research employed the Kemmis and McTaggart model and was conducted in two cycles. Each cycle included the stages of planning, action, observation, and reflection. The intervention began with a pretest and concluded with a posttest to measure improvements in learning outcomes. The results indicated a significant increase from the pre-cycle to Cycle II. By the end of Cycle II, most students scored above 70, reflecting improved conceptual understanding and procedural accuracy. This strategy proved effective in enhancing learning outcomes, focus, and reflective awareness. Moreover, students with higher levels of learning resilience demonstrated more consistent progress. These findings suggest that the drill method combined with immediate feedback can foster meaningful learning experiences and improve problem-solving skills in contextual mathematical tasks.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of using shell-based loose parts media on second-grade students’ numeracy skills in addition and subtraction material. The research used an experimental method with a pretest-posttest control group design. The results of the independent sample t-test on the pretest showed a Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.637 and a t-value of 0.467, which is less than the t-table value of 2.026, with the average scores of the control class at 46.31 and the experimental class at 47.77. This indicates no significant difference between the two groups before treatment. However, the posttest results showed a Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.000 and a t-value of 4.556, which is greater than the t-table value of 2.026, with average posttest scores of 47.36 for the control class and 72.22 for the experimental class. These findings indicate a significant difference after the treatment. Therefore, mathematics learning using shell-based loose parts media is proven effective in improving students’ numeracy skills.

Abstract

This article provides an in-depth discussion on the integration of Al-Islam and Kemuhammadiyahan (AIK) values with educational sciences as an embodiment of Muhammadiyah’s ideology in building a progressive civilization. The focus of the study is directed toward an ideological analysis and strategic contributions of Muhammadiyah in combining spiritual principles, social ethics, and the development of scientific knowledge through the education system. This research employs a qualitative approach based on literature studies, examining Muhammadiyah’s ideological documents such as Matan Keyakinan dan Cita-Cita Hidup Muhammadiyah (MKCH), Muqaddimah Anggaran Dasar Muhammadiyah, and the Pedoman Hidup Islami Warga Muhammadiyah, as well as various relevant contemporary educational theories. The findings indicate that the integration of AIK values in education serves as a foundation for the formation of Islamic character, the strengthening of academic morality, and the advancement of knowledge oriented toward the welfare of society and technological progress. This approach positions education as an instrument of enlightening da’wah that synergizes mastery of modern scientific knowledge with the values of tauhid, amar ma’ruf nahi munkar, and the spirit of tajdid (renewal). Muhammadiyah’s strategic contributions in this context are manifested through curriculum reform, the strengthening of teacher and educational staff capacities, the creation of an academic environment conducive to spiritual development, and the implementation of research and innovation based on Islamic values. Such integration not only impacts the formation of generations with Islamic character and academic excellence but also produces an educational model that is adaptive to the development of science and technology without losing its ideological value orientation. This article recommends strengthening the interdisciplinary AIK-based curriculum, continuous training for lecturers and teachers on integrative approaches, and the development of research collaboration networks that combine Islamic values with educational innovation. In doing so, Muhammadiyah education is capable of producing individuals who are faithful, knowledgeable, charitable, and prepared to face global challenges.
