Abstract

This community service program implemented locally wisdom–based English learning media to enhance the communicative competence of senior high school students. The program aimed to (1) design and produce culturally grounded learning media, (2) strengthen teachers’ capacity to apply communicative tasks using the media, and (3) observe changes in students’ classroom interaction and speaking performance. The program was conducted at [Partner Senior High School], involving 35 students and English teachers as co-implementers. The service stages included needs assessment, collaborative media development, teacher mentoring, classroom implementation, and evaluation. Learning media integrated local wisdom content—such as local legends, historical sites, symbols, and everyday community practices—into communicative activities (role play, information-gap, storytelling, guided tours, and problem-solving tasks). Evaluation used classroom observations, teacher reflection logs, student questionnaires, and speaking performance tasks assessed with a communicative competence rubric (fluency, vocabulary, grammatical control, intelligibility, and interaction strategies). Findings indicate that culturally relevant media increased students’ willingness to communicate, improved peer interaction during tasks, and supported more meaningful speaking practice. The program suggests that local wisdom–based media can serve as authentic communicative prompts and identity-affirming content, especially when accompanied by structured teacher mentoring for sustainable implementation.

Abstract

This community service program aims to enhance the awareness and skills of the Mulyoagung Village community in sustainably managing livestock waste through the production of solid and liquid organic fertilizers. The activities were conducted using socialization, training, hands-on practice, and evaluation methods through pre-tests and post-tests involving 50 livestock-owning participants. The results indicate a significant improvement in participants’ knowledge and skills in understanding the environmental impacts of livestock waste and the techniques for processing it into organic fertilizer. Participants were able to independently practice the fertilizer production process and demonstrated readiness to apply the training outcomes. This program contributes to reducing environmental pollution and supports sustainable agriculture based on local potential.

Abstract

Academic writing skills are an important competency for the younger generation to support a culture of scientific publication and academic capacity development. However, based on initial observations of members of the Makassar New Generation Club (NGC), it was found that most participants still experienced difficulties in compiling scientific articles, using reputable references, applying APA 7-based citation techniques, and understanding scientific publication procedures. Therefore, this Community Service (PKM) activity aims to improve academic writing skills in supporting scientific publications for members of the Makassar New Generation Club. The PKM activity was carried out on March 9, 2026, using a hands-on training and mentoring method. The stages of the activity included material delivery, scientific article writing practice, training in using an academic reference search platform, discussion, mentoring, and evaluation. The results showed that this training was able to improve participants' understanding of the structure of scientific article writing, the use of credible academic references, paraphrasing techniques to avoid plagiarism, and the ability to use scientific writing support applications such as Google Scholar and Mendeley. In addition, participants also showed increased motivation, self-confidence, and interest in writing and publishing their scientific works. Thus, this PKM activity provides a positive contribution in building a culture of academic literacy and increasing scientific publication competence in the youth organization environment.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to enhance the capacity and role of young da’is in fostering religious and social awareness among the community in Balane village, Central Sulawesi. The challenges faced by the community include low youth participation in da’wah activities, a lack of religious communication skills, and limited use of digital media in disseminating moderate Islamic values. The implementation method employs a participatory approach through da’wah training, mentoring, public speaking practice, group discussions, and periodic evaluations. The target participants are village youth interested in da’wah and community development. The results demonstrate improved public speaking skills, enhanced understanding of Islamic teachings, better utilization of social media as a da’wah tool, and increased youth participation in community religious activities. This program also succeeded in building collective awareness among youth as agents of social and religious change within the village community. Thus, the empowerment of young da’i has become an effective strategy in strengthening community capacity based on Islamic values and social empowerment in Balane Village.

Abstract

College students are a group vulnerable to various mental health issues due to academic, social, and personal pressures. The presence of peer counselors serves as a key strategy for strengthening early mental health support within the college environment. This community service activity aims to enhance the capacity of prospective student peer counselors in providing early mental health support through Psychological First Aid (PFA) training. The activity was held on May 21, 2026, involving 65 prospective student peer counselors from Makassar State University. The implementation of the activity consisted of preparation, execution, and evaluation stages. Training methods included interactive lectures, discussions, and simulations applying the Look, Listen, and Link principles. Evaluation was conducted using two case scenarios: helper practices that were consistent with and inconsistent with PFA principles. Results showed that participants were able to identify appropriate PFA practices with a very high percentage in the correct cases (98.5%–100%). The greatest improvement was found in the aspect of question types, with a 69.2% difference between incorrect and correct cases. These findings indicate that PFA training can enhance prospective peer counselors’ understanding of providing initial mental health support and has the potential to strengthen the student mental health support system at universities.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to socialize and implement a modified dynamic ball tool as a forehand drive training medium for table tennis in children aged 6–9 years at table tennis sports clubs in South Sulawesi. The problem underlying this activity is the low mastery of forehand drive techniques among junior athletes due to monotonous training methods and the lack of innovative training equipment. The dynamic ball tool is a training development device that has been proven effective in improving the accuracy of forehand drive strokes, with an effectiveness rate of 87.70%. The implementation method consists of three stages: (1) socialization and training for table tennis coaches, (2) demonstration of the dynamic ball tool usage, and (3) supervised implementation of training for junior athletes. This activity involved 5 table tennis clubs and 30 child athletes aged 6–9 years. The results of the community service showed an 83% increase in coaches' understanding of the use of modified equipment, as well as an average 76.5% improvement in athletes' forehand drive ability after using the dynamic ball tool for eight weeks. This activity recommends the mass development of similar tools and further training for early childhood table tennis coaches throughout South Sulawesi.

Abstract

The use of synthetic pesticides is still the main method used by farmers to control pests in horticultural crops, including aphids. However, continuous use of these pesticides may cause negative impacts on the environment and human health. In Nagari Tanjung Haro Sikabu-kabu Padang Panjang, pine leaves (Pinus merkusii) are available in large quantities but are generally left unused as forest litter. This community service activity aimed to improve the knowledge and skills of local farmers in utilizing pine leaves as a botanical pesticide for aphid control in horticultural crops. The activity was conducted from 14 January to 18 February 2026 through site surveys, socialization, training on botanical pesticide preparation, field application, and monitoring. The results showed that participants were able to understand and independently practice the preparation of pine leaf botanical pesticides. The application of the pesticide was also able to reduce aphid populations on horticultural crops. This effectiveness is thought to be related to the presence of active compounds such as terpenoids, flavonoids, saponins, and tannins found in pine leaves. The use of pine leaves as a botanical pesticide can be considered an environmentally friendly alternative for pest management while also increasing the utilization of locally available natural resources.

Abstract

Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) play a strategic role in promoting national economic growth. However, various challenges, including limited resources, low utilization of technology, and high business demands, continue to hinder the improvement of MSME performance. This community service program aimed to implement the Job Demands–Resources (JD-R) Model through student-assisted mentoring for MSME owners in Makassar City. The methods employed included needs assessment, training, business consultation, and a three-month mentoring program. A total of 20 MSME owners and 15 students from the Entrepreneurship Study Program participated in this activity. The results demonstrated an improvement in MSME owners’ understanding of business resource management, the utilization of digital technology, and the strengthening of business management practices. In addition, the average business performance score increased by 18.6% following the mentoring program. These findings indicate that strengthening job resources through the involvement of students as business mentors can sustainably enhance the capacity and performance of MSMEs.

Abstract

Student independence is a crucial aspect in developing high-quality and competitive human resources. However, many students still face various challenges in developing practical skills, entrepreneurial abilities, and readiness for the world of work. Therefore, empowerment efforts are needed to improve student competence and independence through targeted and sustainable skills training programs. This community service activity aims to improve students' knowledge, skills, and motivation to build independence through various training programs relevant to current needs. The activity was implemented through a participatory approach, encompassing needs identification, material development, training implementation, hands-on practice, interactive discussions, and activity evaluation. The training materials covered soft skills development, communication skills, leadership, digital technology utilization, and the fundamentals of entrepreneurship. Participants were students from various study programs interested in improving their capacity and readiness to face future challenges. The activity results demonstrated an increased understanding of the importance of independence, enhanced practical skills applicable to both academic and social life, and a growing motivation to develop their potential independently. Furthermore, participants demonstrated high enthusiasm throughout the activity and were able to develop self-development plans as a follow-up to the training provided. This program contributes positively to developing students' character to be independent, creative, innovative, and adaptable to developments in society and the workplace.

Abstract

This Community Service (PKM) activity aims to strengthen the local cultural values ​​of Luwu, especially the values ​​of mappatuo and mappasilasa, through the FUN CAMP activity implemented by the Indonesian Student Association of Luwu (IPMIL) Unimerz. Globalization and technological developments have had an impact on weakening the internalization of local cultural values ​​​​among the younger generation. Therefore, an educational space that is participatory, recreational, and based on direct experience is needed. The method of implementing the activity uses a participatory approach through educational games, cultural discussions, reflection on values, and outdoor activities. The results of the activity showed an increase in participants' understanding of Luwu cultural values, an increased sense of togetherness, solidarity, and commitment to implementing the values ​​​​of mappatuo and mappasilasa in daily life and organizations. This activity makes a positive contribution to the character development of the younger generation of Wija to Luwu and strengthens the role of IPMIL as an agent of cultural preservation.
