Journal of Community Service and Society Empowerment (JCSSE) accepts articles on community service results in the fields of development, empowerment, community strengthening, and the results of activities or practical implementations of community service, empowerment, or strengthening that are problem-solving, comprehensive, meaningful, and sustainable, with clear goals. Various community services and empowerment activities must have novelty (have innovation and creativity) so that they do not just replicate the same activities in different places, have measurable results and impacts on society, and support the achievement of the goals set out in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The SDGs are a global action plan agreed upon by world leaders to end poverty, reduce inequality, and protect the environment. The SDGs contain 17 Goals and 169 Targets, so each article must be linked to these goals and targets (as stated in the contribution statement). Therefore, JCSSE accepts articles from Indonesian authors and other countries that have not been offered for publication elsewhere.

Abstract

Local cultural diversity is a fundamental asset and the soul of Indonesia's national identity, which is currently facing the threat of disintegration due to globalization and the dominance of global popular culture. This community service report evaluates the effectiveness of technical guidance on cultural essay writing as a strategy for revitalizing traditional heritage and strengthening community literacy. Through a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach combined with the Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) model, this activity facilitates the transformation of oral traditions into systematic narrative documentation. The program is implemented through a series of cultural asset identification, creative writing training, and publication assistance on digital platforms. The results show that essay writing not only improves technical literacy skills but also triggers critical awareness and a sense of pride in regional identity. The integration of local narratives with digital media has proven to be a cultural "bulwark" for the younger generation in responding to changes in socio-economic structures. The conclusion of this report emphasizes that cultural literacy through narrative essays is a long-term investment in maintaining national stability and identity sovereignty amidst the dynamics of global civilization.

Abstract

Inter-institutional collaboration is an important strategy in strengthening the implementation of the Tri Dharma of higher education, particularly community service. This article describes a community service activity in the form of Islamic economics outreach for students of SMA Islam Terpadu (SMAIT) Insantama Bogor as an implementation of sustainable cooperation with Sekolah Tinggi Ekonomi Islam (STEI) Hamfara Yogyakarta. The activity was integrated into the Pre–Final Leadership and Management Training (Pra-LKMA) program conducted from 24 to 26 May 2025 and involved 117 students. The program employed presentation and interactive discussion methods. The materials included an introduction to STEI Hamfara’s integrated education system and the socialization of Islamic Economics from the Hamfara School of Thought using the 5i pedagogical approach. Abstract

Many EFL students spend years studying English without ever feeling confident enough to actually use it. This community service program at SMP Negeri 49 Maluku Tengah sought to address that gap by introducing creative English songwriting to build multimodal literacy among 40 eighth-grade students. The program ran across four stages: listening to and discussing selected English songs, writing original lyrics collaboratively in small groups, transforming those lyrics into complete musical compositions using Suno AI, and presenting the finished work to peers. Data were gathered through direct observation and reflective documentation throughout each session. Findings showed that students engaged with English more actively and more personally than conventional classroom tasks typically allow. The listening stage drew sustained attention from students who normally disengage during text-heavy instruction. The songwriting stage generated genuine collaboration and purposeful language use. The AI audio stage produced curiosity and investment that carried through to the final presentation. Students did not just practice English; they used it to make something. These findings suggest that multimodal songwriting activities can offer EFL learners a qualitatively different relationship with the language, one grounded in creative expression rather than academic compliance.
