Journal of Community Service and Society Empowerment (JCSSE) accepts articles on community service results in the fields of development, empowerment, community strengthening, and the results of activities or practical implementations of community service, empowerment, or strengthening that are problem-solving, comprehensive, meaningful, and sustainable, with clear goals. Various community services and empowerment activities must have novelty (have innovation and creativity) so that they do not just replicate the same activities in different places, have measurable results and impacts on society, and support the achievement of the goals set out in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The SDGs are a global action plan agreed upon by world leaders to end poverty, reduce inequality, and protect the environment. The SDGs contain 17 Goals and 169 Targets, so each article must be linked to these goals and targets (as stated in the contribution statement). Therefore, JCSSE accepts articles from Indonesian authors and other countries that have not been offered for publication elsewhere.

Abstract

Retirement is a transition phase that requires readiness not only from financial aspects, but also mentally and socially. In the midst of rising life expectancy and uncertain economic dynamics, retirement is no longer interpreted as a period of complete quitting of work, but rather as an opportunity to remain productive and economically independent. One of the relevant strategic approaches in preparing for retirement is the development of entrepreneurship based on digital marketing. The Retirement Preparation Workshop designed by PT Edukasindo Utama and Kopindo Consult to equip prospective retirees of PT. Toyota Boshoku Indonesia (TBINA) with business building skills with digital marketing. Through this workshop, participants not only understand how to build a business, but also gain practical skills in utilizing social media and marketplaces as a means of marketing. The results of the workshop are expected to encourage the creation of economic independence among retirees and strengthen their readiness to face the post-work period through the digital entrepreneurship route.

Abstract

Language can be a powerful conveyor of bias in both blatant and subtle forms. Language bias can impact race and ethnicity as it echoes stereotypical perceptions about other people and their actions. To avoid language biases in instructional materials developed and/or used by teachers, an extension project is proposed by the College of Education (COEd) of Bataan Peninsula State University (BPSU) in cooperation with the City Schools Division Office (SDO) of Balanga City to train teacher-writers on text-based biases based on ethnicity, empowering them on developing instructional resources (i.e., self-learning materials) to promote cultural sensitivity and alleviating ethnicity-grounded biases on learning materials used in Grades 1 to 3 among public schools. The extension project commenced after the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the university and the SDO. The extension project employed the facilitated group extension method in training teacher-writers. Select 30 teacher-writers from Grades 1 to 3, teaching Araling Panlipunan (Social Studies) and Edukasyon sa Pagpapahalaga (Values Education), are purposively selected to serve as the project beneficiaries. The extension team conducted a series of training sessions, material development (learning activity sheets), technical assistance, monitoring, and evaluation of the project to ensure its success. At the outset, the extension project has achieved the following: determined the needs, strengths, and challenges of teacher-writers in identifying text-based biases in ethnicity in the learning materials used as bases for needs improvement; provided seminar-workshops in tracing text-based biases and writing culture sensitive self-learning materials free from language biases based on ethnicity; developed and utilized teachers’ guide in addressing text-based biases and writing culture-sensitive self-learning materials; and established linkage/partnership to improve culturally-sensitive instructional practices. Additionally, three research publications have emerged as by-products of the extension project. To ensure sustainability, the project has been adopted by other schools division (SDO-Bataan).

Abstract

Limited access to healthcare and health information has made Indonesian migrant workers in Malaysia vulnerable to noncommunicable diseases (NCDs). This community service project aimed to improve community health literacy and preventive behavior through interactive health education, screening, and cadre empowerment in Bukit Sungai Putih, Lembah Jaya Utara, Selangor, Malaysia. The program applied a participatory approach combining community health education and direct screening for hypertension, diabetes, and metabolic risks. A total of 120 participants attended education sessions followed by individual counseling and basic health checks. Results indicated a significant improvement in health knowledge and awareness, as participants were able to identify risk factors and expressed willingness to perform regular self-monitoring. Post-activity interviews revealed an increased sense of responsibility toward adopting healthy lifestyles and sustaining community health cadres. This initiative highlights the importance of integrating education, local participation, and screening as an effective model to strengthen health literacy and disease prevention among immigrant populations.
