Abstract

Tourism is one of the factors affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, but after the COVID-19 pandemic, tourism began to rise. There was the phenomenon of "Revenge Tourism," or revenge tourism, which increased interest in travelling after the COVID-19 pandemic. There is also an alternative trend in the form of tourist villages, which are increasingly growing. Pandanrejo Tourism Village is one of the tourist villages in Indonesia and has various attractions and tourism products that are attractive to tourists. The aim of this research is to determine how the digital branding of a tourist village can be right on target according to the target market they determine and what the condition of the village's digital branding identity is. This must be supported by the use of strong branding, both digital and conventional. However, for branding the Pandanrejo Tourism Village, there are still several things that can be maximised so that digital communication through digital branding includes concepts and visual designs carried out in tourism products so that it can maximise the target market and positioning of the Pandanrejo Tourism Village. This research approach uses a qualitative research approach with several key sources to be used as primary data for analysis and involves many stakeholders, such as tourist village managers, community leaders, village officials, and visitors who came to this village. The findings in this research are the condition of the digital branding of the Pandanrejo tourist village and the implications for the information conveyed to visitors.

Abstract

The "Metaverse" is an emerging network of 3D virtual realms that leverage technological advancements to create immersive, interconnected online environments mirroring the real world. This digital landscape has garnered significant attention, particularly from Generation Z (Gen Z), the next-generation cohort. Despite its prominence in various industries like online gaming, tourism, and hospitality, the metaverse's impact on the events industry remains relatively unexplored. This research aims to bridge this knowledge gap by investigating the variables influencing Gen Z's attitude (AT) towards the metaverse in the events industry. Specifically, it focuses on the factors of (I) perceived curiosity (PC), (II) perceived ease of use (PE), (III) social norms (SN), and (IV) perceived usefulness (PU). To accomplish this, a quantitative approach employing non-probability convenience sampling will be employed to survey 400 Gen Z individuals in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Preliminary findings indicate that PC, PE, and PU significantly shape Gen Z's attitudes towards metaverse vents. However, the study reveals that the relationship between SN and Gen Z's attitudes is both insignificant and negative. This research extends the current understanding of the metaverse's implications in the events industry and contributes to the burgeoning body of knowledge in this emerging field. It offers valuable insights for event organisers, marketers, and technologists seeking to engage with Gen Z within the metaverse landscape. Ultimately, this study enhances our comprehension of the evolving dynamics between Gen Z and the metaverse within the context of event planning and execution

Abstract

Creative tourism and Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, and Exhibitions (MICE) tourism are two independent sectors positioned for distinct markets, namely, the leisure and the business groups.   However, the sweeping shifts in tourist motivation, behavior, and interest toward immersive, engaging, and sustainable activities may require an innovative strategy that can mutually benefit stakeholders across the value and supply chain.  Thus, this paper seeks to present the possibility of a niche for both types of tourists.  Anchored on grounded theory, the research argues for inclusion of unique activities curated by residents for a MICE itinerary.   However, the strategy requires best new practices in the conceptualization, management, and evaluation of this new offer that will achieve profit objectives, ensure the well-being of the residents, safeguard traditions, and protect the communities, thus, resulting in a sustainable and regenerative tourism ecosystem.

Abstract

The airport serves as a vital gateway in the international tourism industry, acting as the first and last impression for tourists visiting a destination. High airport service quality plays an essential role in enhancing the overall tourism experience and significantly influences passenger perceptions and satisfaction levels. Service quality at airports not only affects passengers' immediate experiences but also shapes their future intentions to revisit or recommend the destination to others. This paper examines the multifaceted role of airport service quality within the tourism sector, underscoring key elements such as convenience, comfort, cleanliness, accessibility of information, and overall efficiency of services offered. In addition, the paper delves into the ways that improved airport infrastructure, effective information dissemination, and enhanced security measures can contribute to creating a positive travel experience and promoting tourism development. A qualitative research methodology is employed, with data collected from various online sources focusing on airport service quality and its impact on tourism growth. By improving these service factors, airports can play a proactive role in fostering tourism sector expansion, encouraging positive word-of-mouth, and ultimately positioning themselves as attractive entry points that elevate the reputation and desirability of a destination.

Abstract

Sustainable tourism development hinges on robust collaboration among various stakeholders, and the Penta-Helix model—comprising government, business, academics, media, and community—serves as a comprehensive framework to facilitate this cooperation. This research seeks to evaluate the effectiveness of the Penta-Helix concept in the development and sustainability of the Bidar Boat Festival in Palembang City, an annual event that preserves and promotes the cultural heritage of traditional bidar boats. Initiated by the Palembang City Government, the festival not only celebrates regional heritage but also bolsters cultural tourism. Employing a literature study-based approach, this research reviews existing journals and publications to examine the extent of Penta-Helix integration within the festival's organizational framework. Findings indicate that while the application of the Penta-Helix concept has enhanced cooperation across stakeholders, further strengthening and more active participation from each element could amplify the festival’s reach and impact. Future recommendations suggest enhancing collaboration between the involved elements to foster long-term cultural preservation and ensure the festival's continued success as a hallmark of Palembang's cultural identity. By leveraging the Penta-Helix approach, this study contributes to the broader discourse on sustainable tourism and cultural heritage preservation through multi-stakeholder engagement.

Abstract

This research critically examines the interplay between rural tourism and poverty alleviation in Sri Lanka, using an analytical framework based on secondary data analysis. By aggregating reports from institutions, the study employs empirical evidence and time-series data analyzed through econometric methodologies to explore this relationship. Pearson correlation and multiple regression analyses delineate the magnitude and directionality of the interconnection between the tourism sector and poverty reduction mechanisms. Correlation analysis evaluates inter-dependencies among variables, selecting significant ones for the regression model to enhance predictive capacity and minimize errors. Exhibit 3 presents Pearson correlation coefficients among these pivotal variables. The methodological framework is anchored in an empirical model derived from extensive literature review, positioning rural tourism development as the independent variable and poverty alleviation as the dependent variable. This model includes dimensions such as warfare impacts, economic growth trajectories, employment opportunities, and financial requisites for poverty mitigation, scrutinized through correlation and regression analyses.A key revelation is the multifaceted relationship between rural tourism and poverty alleviation, intricately linked with economic growth, political stability, and employment generation. While the direct linkage is modest, indirect connections through employment, infrastructure development, and political stability are significant. The research highlights these previously underexplored pathways, challenging conventional underestimations of socio-economic impacts of   tourism. The findings advocate reconceptualizing rural tourism as an   instrument for socio-economic transformation, addressing poverty challenges in rural contexts. The study critiques existing government poverty alleviation programmes, revealing   gaps and inefficiencies. It argues for   leveraging rural tourism within   socio-economic frameworks, proposing a dual-strategy approach for policy implementation that emphasizes sustainable development and responsiveness to rural socio-cultural and environmental contexts. This research contributes to the discourse on sustainable rural development, positing rural tourism as a pivotal yet underutilized vector for socio-economic revitalization. The insights and recommendations extend beyond Sri Lanka, offering a blueprint for rural tourism-centered poverty alleviation strategies in the developing world.

Abstract

Cultural sustainability has recently emerged as a significant trend in the tourism industry, driven by increased awareness of travel's environmental impacts and the need to preserve natural resources for future generations. Sustainable cultural tourism emphasizes protecting and valuing cultural heritage while ensuring that tourism activities respect the environment and the integrity of local cultures. For it to be genuinely comprehensive, sustainable cultural tourism must be integrated into national development strategies, aligning tourism goals with broader sustainable development objectives. Cultural tourism plays a unique role as both a catalyst and enabler of sustainable development, fostering economic resilience, social cohesion, and environmental conservation. This paper explores the relationship between cultural tourism and sustainability by examining how sustainable cultural tourism supports sustainable development goals. Essential to this approach is preserving and managing cultural heritage, involving local communities in decision-making, promoting effective conservation practices, supporting rural development, and addressing issues like over-tourism, which can lead to the loss of authenticity and over-concentration in popular destinations. Ultimately, sustainable cultural tourism is not only about conserving the past but also about creating a harmonious relationship between culture and tourism that benefits present and future generations. Through its focus on local empowerment, responsible resource use, and respect for cultural diversity, sustainable cultural tourism offers a forward-looking approach, ensuring that tourism continues to drive positive social and environmental change.

Abstract

Rafting has become a popular adventure activity globally, offering an exhilarating experience for thrill-seekers. Indonesia, with its diverse geography and rich cultural heritage, offers numerous rafting opportunities. The current trends in adventure tourism in Sukabumi, Indonesia, are focused on developing river-based special interest tourism (SIT) products, particularly rafting, river tubing, and body rafting, targeting productive age groups in Sukabumi, Jabodetabek, and Bandung Raya areas. Service blueprinting and framed experience design are two distinct approaches used in service design to enhance customer experiences. By integrating these two approaches, service providers can create a more comprehensive and effective service design strategy. Service blueprinting can help identify areas for improvement in the service delivery process, while framed experience design can help create a cohesive and engaging experience by framing the context, atmosphere, and activities that make up the experience (Pandey & Kulshrestha, (2021); Li & Lu, (2021)). Therefore, this study aims to investigate how service blueprints and frame experience design can be applied to enhance the rafting experience, ultimately contributing to the growth and sustainability of the industry. This research will adopt a quantitative technique and data collected will be analyzed using descriptive statistics and Importance-Performance Analysis (IPA) quadrant matrix. The result suggests that while most aspects of the white-water rafting experience are performing well in areas of high importance, there are a few areas where improvement efforts could be focused to increase satisfaction levels, particularly in managing river current conditions, enhancing storytelling and entertainment aspects, and providing more opportunities for self-development.
