Abstract

This study aims to describe the patterns of interpersonal communication in phonics learning for early childhood at Bright Cubs Learning Center. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed, using in-depth interviews with three phonics teachers and two parents. This research applies Social Learning Theory and Symbolic Interactionism to explain how communication between teachers and students shapes learning experiences and children’s perceptions of letters and sounds. The findings reveal that warm, responsive, and interactive communication patterns play a crucial role in building children's self-confidence and facilitating their understanding of phonics. Symbolic communication expressed through facial expressions, body movements, and vocal intonation provides meaningful learning cues for children in learning to read. The interaction fosters not only early literacy skills but also the broader development of children's interpersonal communication. These findings highlight the importance of the quality of interpersonal relationships in early childhood education, particularly in the phonics learning context.

Abstract

This systematic literature review explores the role of social media in digital activism and its significance in mobilizing and raising awareness of social and political issues. By analyzing 26 relevant studies published between 2020 and 2024, this review highlights how social media platforms empower individuals and groups particularly youth to disseminate information, build collective awareness, and engage in public discourse. The findings indicate that digital activism has transformative potential in democratizing communication and amplifying marginalized voices. However, several challenges remain, such as the spread of misinformation, the hijacking of activism for conspiratorial agendas, and the difficulty in measuring the tangible impact of online actions on real-world social and policy change. The study also identifies the most frequently used theories (e.g., Social Movement Theory, Framing Theory, Connective Action), common research methods (qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods), and thematic contexts such as racial justice, feminism, environmental activism, and misinformation. Most studies rely heavily on Twitter (X) as the primary platform, suggesting a need for cross-platform analysis in future research. This review concludes that while social media is an essential tool for digital activism, further research is required to develop effective communication strategies, assess long-term impacts, and explore activism in the Global South. Ultimately, this study contributes to the growing body of knowledge on media and communication by emphasizing the complex, dynamic, and evolving nature of digital activism in shaping sustainable social change.

Abstract

The high incidence of fires in Jakarta demands the Fire and Rescue Department of DKI Jakarta to maintain effective internal communication strategies. This study aims to examine how these strategies impact the department’s emergency fire response. The research employed a qualitative approach using a case study method, with data collected through in-depth interviews with six department personnel and three fire-affected residents, field observations, and documentation. Analysis was based on Karl Weick’s Organizational Information Theory, focusing on the processes of enactment, selection, and retention. The findings reveal that internal communication strategies include rapid reporting via 112 and nearby posts, information validation via telephone, use of color codes and operational terms such as “76” and “86,” and coordination through handy talkies across teams and command levels. A tiered command structure is applied based on the first responder, followed by a unified command system at the fire scene. Communication barriers identified include differences in perception, time pressure, signal disruption in areas like high-rise buildings or basements (blind spots), and environmental constraints such as traffic congestion or narrow alleyways. Nevertheless, the structured and adaptive communication strategy effectively reduces equivocality and accelerates decision-making during emergencies. This study contributes to organizational communication literature in the context of emergency response and offers insights into the importance of internal communication in managing critical information within public service organizations.

Abstract

The role of a brand ambassador is considered strategic, as it helps build an emotional connection between a brand and its consumers. The use of Korean celebrities as brand ambassadors has become common among Indonesian products due to the global popularity of Korean culture, known as the “Korean Wave.” This study aims to measure the effectiveness of NCT Dream as the brand ambassador of the TosTos snack product among non-Gen Z audiences using the VisCAP model, which includes four components: Visibility, Credibility, Attraction, and Power. This model is considered effective in evaluating how well a brand ambassador conveys a brand message. The research used a descriptive quantitative method, with data collected through an online questionnaire. The sampling technique was non-probability quota sampling, involving 400 respondents from the general public aged 28 years and older who are familiar with NCT Dream as TosTos’s brand ambassador. The findings indicate that NCT Dream is effective as a brand ambassador for TosTos, even among millennial and older age groups, with the “Visibility” component receiving the highest score among the four indicators.

Abstract

The post-truth era is characterized by the dominance of emotions and subjective opinions over objective facts, blurring the lines between reality and perception. This phenomenon poses serious challenges to journalistic integrity and ethical principles in journalistic work. This study aims to systematically review the scientific literature discussing ethical dilemmas, external pressures, and deviations in journalistic integrity between 2019 and 2024. By applying a systematic review approach and integrating three main theoretical frameworks, this study identifies the dynamics of roles, morality, and information interference that affect the quality of journalists' work. The analysis demonstrates the importance of ethical courage, institutional strengthening, and ongoing ethical literacy as the foundation for maintaining integrity amidst disinformation. This paper also proposes the Triadic Model of Integrity as a framework for further analysis and critical reflection on the realities of contemporary journalistic practice.

Abstract

The use of social media in tourism communication strategies has become crucial in the digital era. Bukit Kaba, a nature-based tourism destination in Bengkulu, utilizes platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok for promotion. However, the extent to which these platforms are strategically and integratively employed remains underexplored. This study aims to analyze the digital communication strategy of Bukit Kaba’s tourism management through social media by applying the Integrated Marketing Communication (IMC) and Attention, Interest, Desire, Action (AIDA) theoretical frameworks. A qualitative descriptive method was employed, using digital observation, documentation, and in-depth interviews. The findings reveal that each platform demonstrates unique characteristics and communication performance. TikTok exhibits strong engagement but lacks persuasive storytelling; Instagram excels in visuals but lacks explicit calls to action; Facebook is more informative yet less frequently updated. None of the platforms present a fully integrated cross-platform messaging strategy. These results highlight the need for IMC-based consistency reinforcement and better AIDA-driven content planning to attract, engage, and mobilize potential tourists. This study contributes to the development of social media–based digital communication models for tourism destinations and offers practical recommendations for tourism managers in designing effective and sustainable promotional strategies.

Abstract

Sudirman Street in Bandung has become a unique phenomenon in the urban landscape of Indonesia. As a popular culinary district, it draws attention due to the presence of non-halal food amidst a predominantly Muslim population. This condition raises questions about how cultural tolerance, religious identity, and economic dynamics interact in public spaces. This study employs the social-identity theory and the concept of a gastronomic city, using direct observation and literature review methods to analyze the cultural negotiation processes that occur. Observation was conducted to understand the social dynamics of the area, while the literature review was used to strengthen the theoretical analysis. The findings reveal that tolerance in this area is pragmatic, managed through space segmentation between halal and non-halal dining areas, as well as social norms emphasizing respect for individual beliefs. Furthermore, this area functions as a representation of a gastronomic city, where cross-cultural experiences are presented through culinary exploration. This study contributes to academic discourse on the formation of tolerance spaces in urban contexts, particularly in areas with cultural and religious pluralism. Thus, Sudirman Street is not merely a culinary hub but also a social negotiation space that reflects the flexibility of identity and urban societal harmony

Abstract

The research analyzes cultural hybridity in Southeast Asian animated storytelling through an assessment of Raya and the Last Dragon film. Structural narrative analysis and visual semiotics techniques are used to evaluate how the film delivers Southeast Asian identity perspectives to non-regional audiences. The analysis of the movie employs Claude Lévi-Strauss’s binary opposition framework to reveal cultural tensions between trust and betrayal and unity and fragmentation which repeatedly appear in the text. The film's visual design combines various Southeast Asian cultural elements into an original unified imagery which includes architectural designs and weapons and magical creatures alongside costume styles. Rather than offering a descriptive reading of narrative alone, this study decodes how hybrid representations shape ideological messages. This study contributes to global media representation studies via analysis that back up accurate representation of culture with observation both of precise and truthful material, as well as within viewing audience. This paper uses narrative theory and visual cultural analysis for studying transnational animation as it presents cultural pride and ideology through interdisciplinary methodologies.
