Abstract

Gynura procumbens, also known as “Sambung Nyawa,” is a medicinal plant known for its various therapeutic properties. This study aims to explore the potential of endophytic microbes living inside Gynura procumbens plants as a source of bioactive compounds with pharmaceutical applications. Endophytic microbes are microorganisms that live symbiotically in plant tissues without causing damage, and are known to produce secondary metabolites similar to their host plants. In this study, endophytic microbes in the form of bacteria and fungi were isolated from various plant parts, including leaves, stems, and roots. A total of 12 isolates were obtained, consisting of 7 bacteria and 5 fungi, which were identified using molecular techniques. The isolates were tested for antimicrobial, antioxidant and cytotoxic activities. The antimicrobial assay showed significant inhibitory effects against Staphylococcus aureus and Candida albicans, where isolates from the genus Streptomyces and Penicillium had the highest activity. Antioxidant activity was measured using the DPPH method, and two bacterial isolates showed strong free radical scavenging ability. Cytotoxic assays on MCF-7 breast cancer cells revealed that the fungal isolates, mainly from the genus Penicillium and Aspergillus, had strong anticancer activity. The results of this study indicate that endophytic microbes from Gynura procumbens contain bioactive compounds that have potential as antimicrobial, antioxidant, and anticancer agents. This study confirms the importance of exploring endophytic microbes from medicinal plants in the discovery of new drugs and the development of therapeutic agents. Further research is needed to isolate and characterize the specific compounds responsible for these bioactivities as well as evaluate their potential in clinical applications.

Abstract

The transformation of medical services in Indonesia from a disease-centered model to a patient-centered model has created intense competition among medical institutions. At one of the Maternal and Child Hospitals in Jakarta, a decline in visits from Non-BPJS patients indicates the need for a deeper understanding of the factors influencing patients' intentions to revisit. This study aims to analyze the influence of patient involvement and patient experience on the intention to revisit the hospital, with the mediation of the hospital's brand image. A quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design was used in this study. Data were collected through questionnaires from 119 Non-BPJS patients in the Outpatient Unit. Data analysis was conducted using PLS-SEM with the Smart-PLS program. The results showed that patient involvement and patient experience significantly influenced the intention to revisit, with the hospital's brand image serving as a strong mediator. Enhancing patient involvement, positive experiences, and a strong brand image can significantly increase patients' intention to return to the Maternal and Child Hospital in Jakarta.

Abstract

Plastic waste has become a global issue that has a significant impact on the environment and human health. Universities as higher education institutions are also one of the sources of considerable plastic waste due to the daily activities of students and staff. This study aims to identify factors that influence plastic waste reduction behavior among students of the Faculty of Public Health, Universitas Muhammadiyah Jakarta. This research design uses a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional method. A total of 188 students became respondents who were selected by stratified random sampling. Data were collected through an online questionnaire and analyzed using the Chi-Square test with a 95% confidence level. The results showed that the majority of students had good knowledge (77.1%) and positive attitudes (60.1%), but plastic waste reduction behavior was still poor in 52.7% of respondents. A total of 52.1% of students considered government policies related to plastic waste reduction to be good, and statistical analysis showed a significant relationship between government policies and plastic waste reduction behavior (p = 0.026). In contrast, knowledge, attitude, and availability of infrastructure did not have a significant relationship (p > 0.05). The results of this study emphasize that policies have an important role in encouraging changes in behavior that are more concerned about the environment. This study suggests the need to improve supporting facilities, continuous education, and strengthening policy implementation to reduce the use of plastic waste.

Abstract

Postpartum Depression is also known as PPD, which is a maternal mental health condition that affects each woman worldwide significantly and also potentially influences mothers' and babies' conditions. Various socioeconomic, environmental, and geographic conditions determine the prevalence and the risk factors of PPD. This study aims to identify and analyze the primary factors associated with PPD. This systematic review utilizes articles from PubMed, Elsevier, Google Scholar, and other academic databases published between 2020 and 2025, particularly focusing on differences in PPD prevalence between rural and urban areas. Seven articles were selected based on the inclusion criteria. The results indicate that low educational attainment, prior mental disorders, lack of social support, limited access to health care services, low economic condition, and complications in pregnancy or childbirth significantly increase the risk of PPD. Therefore, advancing mental health services, promoting the involvement of partners and families, as well as mediating interventions related to socio-economics are fundamental strategies to mitigate the incidence of PPD.
