Abstract

Gene therapy offers the potential for treating genetic diseases and improving quality of life, but it also raises significant ethical challenges, including issues of genetic manipulation and eugenics. By identifying fundamental principles of Islamic ethics, this study explores how genetic technology can be integrated within an appropriate moral context. Through literature analysis and scholarly perspectives, this article highlights the need for dialogue among scientists, medical practitioners, and religious communities to establish guidelines for the use of this technology. The findings indicate that a balance between technological innovation and the preservation of Islamic ethical values is essential to ensure that scientific advancements provide benefits without violating moral principles. The article also recommends further research to explore the practical applications of gene therapy within the framework of Islamic ethics.

Abstract

Advances in reproductive technology are proof that this world was not created by any other chance. With the emergence of reproductive technology updates such as womb rental, many couples choose this shortcut, without considering the established sharia. In Indonesia, this practice is also prohibited because it is exploitation and lowers the dignity of a woman. There are several alternative ways to solve this problem by adopting a child or medical procedures such as in vitro fertilization (IVF). Even though alternative ways have been found, Muslims must still involve mature religious considerations and guidance from trusted scholars.

Abstract

Sepsis is a condition of systemic inflammation due to dysregulation of the immune system against infection which causes multiorgan failure. One of the most frequent complications of sepsis and has a high mortality rate is acute renal failure (AKI). Often, sepsis that has already occurred requires renal replacement therapy (RRT). The continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) technique is currently more widely used than other techniques, namely intermittent hemodialysis (IHD). IHD often causes hemodynamic problems and even causes cardiac arrest in patients who experience hemodynamic disorders in the ICU. Apart from being useful in AKI, CRRT is also useful in eliminating mediators in sepsis. This aims to reduce the severity of cytokine storms and pro-inflammatory endotoxins thereby improving patient outcomes. Several methods and devices such as high cut-off membranes, Oxiris®-AN69 membranes, CytoSorb® and HA380 cytokine hemoadsorption, polymyxin B endotoxin adsorption and plasmapheresis have been widely observed as ways to improve outcomes in septic patients. However, until now data regarding actual benefits is still controversial. This article reviews the benefits and standard operational procedures of RRT in sepsis patients.

Abstract

This study aims to understand the perception of rural communities in efforts to prevent stunting through a healthy lifestyle in rural areas. This is because the high prevalence of stunting in rural areas is also influenced by lifestyle, minimal access to nutrition, and low public understanding of public health. This study involved three subjects who were breastfeeding mothers living in rural areas of Serang Regency. This study used a phenomenological study approach with the Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis analysis method. Data were obtained through in-depth interviews and observations with categories based on statements from research subjects who carry out daily activities according to the character of the local rural community. The research subjects stated that the perception of rural communities in preventing stunting through a healthy lifestyle is still influenced by cultural factors, education levels, and limited access to health information. This study found that the majority of rural communities believe that strengthening a healthy lifestyle can help prevent stunting in rural areas. Various innovations are needed to strengthen education, socialization and understanding of village citizens regarding a healthy lifestyle in preventing stunting. This study also found that the role and involvement of community leaders also greatly contributed to building collective awareness of a healthy lifestyle for preventing stunting in rural areas.

Abstract

With significant indicators like the infant mortality rate (IMR) and maternal mortality rate (MMR), maternal and child health is a critical issue impacting the quality of human resources. The purpose of this study is to assess the degree of maternal and child health knowledge among health students, taking into account their strategic importance in future health and education programs. The research was conducted at the Bhakti Wiyata Institute of Health Sciences in Kediri, using the Focus Group Discussion (FGD) method with four health students as respondents. The results of the study show that students have a reasonably good understanding of MMR, Antenatal Care (ANC), postpartum visits, the importance of basic immunizations, exclusive breastfeeding, infant care, and child development. However, there are still challenges in the areas of complementary feeding, proper breastfeeding techniques, and adequate nutrition intake, which require deeper knowledge, especially regarding the selection of nutritious foods. The conclusion of this study is that students' knowledge regarding maternal and child health is generally good but needs to be improved in several areas, particularly in complementary feeding (MP-ASI), proper breastfeeding techniques, and adequate nutrition intake.
